13:29:10 To answer your question, Yes this is the prequel to ico which takes place an unknown amount of time prior to ico's events (im assuming a few thousand years). Some things to mention in case you missed it (cause admittedly I only watched my favorite colossus fights + ending and thoughts) - the main character's name is wander, his name was said by the girl a few times when you were getting the portal looking loading screen - When the priest (lord emon) said that "one day you can make atonement for your sins" this line ecos to the story of ico where ico (the descendant of wander, cause horns) makes his atonement by defeating the queen - In the story of shadow of the colossus, you always heard dormin with a male and female voice mixed within it, but when the final conlusion of the story happens, dormin's voice shows no sign of the female voice being present, meaning in my and many other people's interpretation, part of dormin escaped and the queen in ico is the last piece of dormin. - In shadow of the colossus there is a part of the land that you can travel to and see the same beach ico walks on the find the girl in the last segment of ico. In the remaster the team put watermelons on the beach which is an easter egg to a new game + ending in ico. - In the desert near the 13th colossus there is a ringlike structure sticking out of the ground that resembles the rings you see when you are trying to open the doors of the castle in ico, further hinting at the relation between the two games. - if you beat the game 3 times (normal playthrough plus 2 new game + playthroughs) you can climb to the garden that the girl and argo end up staying at the end of the game as well as walk across the bridge to the entrance of the sacred land. I am so glad you enjoyed and experienced this game the way I and many others had back in the day. If you have any more questions/discussions you wish to ask/talk about, feel free!

As you're playing the PS2 version there are no trophies but the PS3 remaster does indeed have a trophy for getting all the lizards, however only the ones with the glowing tails count. These ones increase your stamina by a tiny amount, the all black ones do nothing. One of the time attack rewards shows the locations of each 'shining' lizard on the world map. Another prize is a map of all the edible fruit growing from trees, shooting these down and eating them increases your health.

Wow, Kasta, what an incredible journey this playthrough has been! Shadow of the Colossus is such a breathtaking game, and watching you tackle each colossus with your unique approach was such a treat. Your commentary really brought out the emotional weight of the story while balancing it with your usual humor and insight. This game is truly a masterpiece in minimalist storytelling and atmosphere. The sprawling landscapes, the haunting silence broken only by the echoes of Agro’s gallop, and the sheer scale of the colossi make every moment unforgettable. You captured all of that beautifully, especially during those epic fights where you really showed how much strategy and precision this game demands. I loved how you reflected on Wander’s journey throughout the playthrough. The way you empathized with him and questioned his motives made it clear that this isn’t just an action game-it’s a tale about sacrifice, consequence, and the lengths we go to for love. That added a whole new layer of depth to your gameplay. The way you took the time to explore the world, appreciate the visuals, and even interact with Agro was just as engaging as the battles themselves. Speaking of Agro, I have to commend you for your patience during those tricky platforming sections where controlling her can get a little challenging especially when time was of the essence! Thanks for sharing this amazing experience with us, Kasta. Shadow of the Colossus isn’t just a game; it’s a work of art, and you gave it the respect it deserves. I’m looking forward to seeing what journey you take us on next! ❣♥
Team Ico were just so impressive with how they tell a story that can only be done in video games. You get pretty much no dialogue from Wander but you can tell just how desperate he was to bring back a life through his animations struggling with a colossus. He doesn't seem like a particularly strong person either but none of that seems to matter to him. In ICO they managed to give Yorda and Ico personalities despite the lack of dialogue and communication with one another. So much of it was told just through the animation work which was deliberately not motion captured but uses an innovative design. Yorda in particular is very frail and you start feeling bad if you're just yanking her arm when running (as Kasta noted several times). You're encouraged then to be gentle and maybe walk instead of running with her even though there's no actual gameplay benefit. And if you leave Yorda alone and give her some peace you might notice she is captivated by the birds seen around the castle (a reflection of her desire to be free). SPOILERS for SotC and The Last of Us SotC was also a game that really popularized the metanarrative of "you're doing a bad thing but it's a video game to you" and in a way the game punishes you in that last scene where you get your controls back and can struggle all you want to reach Mono (the girl) but you've already doomed yourself. You see this in other games like Hotline Miami, Undertale and TLoU but SotC is a lot more subtle about it haha. Worth noting ICO is Neil Druckmann's favourite game so there's probably a bunch of other connections you can make
The remaster of this game that came out a few years ago is a million percent worth a playthrough, and one of the few times I actually prefer the newer version over the old. It's the exact same game but upscaled with incredible graphics. Genuinely one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. Edit: I said the remaster - what I meant was the PS4 remake. Thanks for the correction.
OMG this game looks amazing! Thank you Kasta for bringing this to the channel! I'm really going to enjoy this so baaaddd. Also, have a great Christmas day!❤
Don't feel too bad about looking up the vitals on the second to last one, you forgot somewhere along the way that holding up the sword with circle shows not just the way to the collossi, but it points directly at the vitals, considering you didn't that feature you dealt with it being harder without even knowing. Loved the playthrough, the struggle is fun to watch, we're not here for perfect playthoughs, we're here to watch you experience these blind, which is a lot more interesting than someone blazing through the game, i usually blast through it, but seeing some of your reactions to scaling on the sand worm or jumping on the bird collossus for the first time and the music kicking in were very similar to mine, i can't remember many times where i nearly cried cause of how awesome something was, but this game definitely had those moments, lol. And i'm so pround of the little PS2 pulling this game off, it just barely gets away with it, i don't even care that it runs at sub 20 fps most of the time, i always like to image i'm struggling along with the PS2.. and with Wander's fingernails 😆
Also i'd definitely recommend stepping away for half a day or a good night's rest like halfway through, i've also been in moments of wanting to get through to the end no matter what, and that's when you start missing stuff, dying a bunch and getting frustrated, usually when i come back, i do whatever i was struggling with on the first try, stuff just starts going over your head at some point towards the end of a 13 hour play session, you become hyper fixated on something that's in the way of both enjoyment and the actual way to progress. I definitely get looking it up at that point though, but i guarantee you would not have needed to had you taken the game in 2 sessions instead of 1, so please don't push yourself too hard Kasta, if it gets a little crowded on the calender 10 games of christmas is okay too!
Ill take this as a Christmas gift from your part. One of my favourite games ever, an interactive experience of no equal. It will be a pleasure to enjoy it again with such a delightful host. Happy holidays, Kasta!!
Sorry I'm late to commenting on this beautiful walkthrough!! Many thanks to covering my favorite game of all time! It's not only a game but a work of art. The music. The storytelling. Just like your Ico walkthrough. This was a very well thought out walkthrough. Love that you include the manuals in every video. It shows true respect to the game ☺️ Maggie as a huge fan ❤ I love how you're covering some of the most important games that came to be throughout our time Thank you for bringing back the memories 🙏🏽
@@Sasshi50 wasnt that good unfortunately like Shadow of the Colossus in my opinion. I didnt finish it, cause it felt very slow. But well.. maybe i should retry ..
This game was one of the most fascinating things I knew at the time, I was amazed by the simple fact of being able to move and focus the camera during the cutscenes
I watched it all, while playing napping, metaphor. The movie Reign Over Me is a 2007 with Sandler and Cheadle will break your heart, and cry tears of joy. As the movies plot is directly related to this game, and this game's plotline is integrated into the show. So sweet, so delicate of a storyline. A must watch for fans of Ico, Shadow of, Guardian. Enjoy. 😂😂
I KNEW you'd love this one! My thoughts/observations: You can climb the save shrines, and in fact need to in order to collect many of the salamander tails. Shooting the final colossus's shoulder is something A LOT of people missed. Even if not, never apologize if you decide to look something up. It's your playthrough. The beach at the end of Ico is in the game, and you ALMOST discovered it before even finding the first colossus. (B5 on the map.) Fumito Ueda is notoriously mum on what everything explicitly means, so there is very little that is canon. The popular theory is that SotC is a prequel to Ico, and my interpretation is that Wander (the playable character; the woman's name is Mono) became the first horned child of those that end up being sacrificed in Ico. This would explain why the horned children are believed to be cursed, and why they return in the Castle as shadow figures. Dormin speaks with a male and female voice, but the female voice is gone after Wander slays the final colossus. My own (probably unpopular) theory is that the female somehow was used to resurrect Mono. Many think female Dormin and/or Mono becomes the Queen in Ico, but I never liked that idea. Also, Agro actually has a diamond between his eyes, but if your memory card has a save file of Ico, it turns into the I from the Ico logo. Lastly, the original concept was for 48 colossi, but it was cut in half when they began the colossi designs and puzzle/battle designs and, due to budget/deadlines, was ultimately cut to 16.
I was at Uni studying games design when this came out, some of the Devs came to do a talk with us; which was great; but then they surprised us by letting us play a demo of it (up till the end of the first colossus) projected at night on a 10 story building. It was amazing and I was hooked, such a brilliant game.
I'm currently still watching and I'm impressed at how advanced this game was, even then it was ahead of it's time, I'm curious to see your reaction to the remastered version, side note I'm so antsy playfully shouting at the screen C'mon c'mon you can do it get up there!! Lol during the colossi battles, I also felt sad and uneasy for the creatures I kept getting the vibe something was off the creatures we're peacefully hanging out not bothering anyone hence destroying them felt wrong not to mention the then uncertain consequences of ending them, thanks for playing these classics.
Just got done watchin' your Ico playthrough! This is a wonderful Christmas present! I'll be binge watchin' this today! These are my 2 favorite games ever made, and, though i'm new to your channel, I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and thoroughness when doing your playthroughs and the thought and emotion you put into them. Hope you're having a great holidays and getting to enjoy some good food with the people you love. Merry Christmas! Peace. P.S.- This is my favorite present cuz I love watchin' people get to experience this amazing work of art for the 1st time! Can't wait to watch! Thanks!Shout out to Agro!! 🐴😢
I kind of made up my mind a while back that this was one of those gems that I'd just have to miss out on in favor of other priorities, but I think I'll enjoy sitting down to vicariously enjoy your experience with it. Thanks for sharing! By the way, thanks for making this specific format for youtube instead of doing streaming-only format. It's much appreciated.
HUH??? Did you really just surprise drop a 13 hour video of one of the best games of all time??? How the hell did you find the time to record these FULL games playthroughs for these 12 days of Christmas on top of your regular content? that's crazy. What a treat, I can't wait to watch this, before Outer Wilds, this was my favorite game of all time for the loooongest time, ever since I was a teenager. Just from the description I can see you appreciated how special it is, but to watch it happen in real time will be even better.
The remake by bluepoint is beautiful. If you plan a second playthrough the remake could be fun. There more little secrets in the remake but the rest is the exact same but very good looking.
The amount of content you produce in such a short time is outstanding Maggie. You really are dedicated to your craft as a content creator. Hats off to you. Enjoy Christmas.
I played this game hunting collosi; you played it hunting salamanders. I never saw these creatures during my gameplay. Learn something new every day. 👍🏾
I have no idea how you have so much more time to play these games than I have to watch you play them. But I’m so happy to have such epic content. LOVE this game. Marry Xmas!
Giants have always been my favorite fantasy creature. I remember being in a Target as a kid and browsing the game section. This game caught my eye, when it was first released. One of the best $50.00 I've ever spent.
Same with these types of 'art' games by this specific director. I also feel like I am in a ethereal dream, a empirical experience, and a damn good time. The escapism is unlike any games out there. My favorite series for sure.
Shadow of the colossus on PS2 is a master piece, but I must admit that even for its time, its framerate made the game quite unpleasant for me. However it is still a beautiful piece to have in your collection. Fortunately the PS3 remaster did it justice, and of course the superb remake by Bluepoint on PS4 that you should try one day.
Now that you played the original, it's a real treat to play the remaster of it. This game made me understand that some games can be an art. It changed me. The soundtrack is also amazing!
BTW one thing you'll have missed is the white patch on Agro's face, because you have an Ico save on your memory card the patch is in the shape of the stylised 'I' from Ico, without that Ico save the patch would look different.
Yesss!! Looking forward to this 😆 I’m so happy I found yours and Anna’s channel this year, I wish I’d discovered you both sooner. Looking forward to more fun playthroughs in 2025 🥰 Merry Christmas 🎄🥂
There's a wonderful video about a forum user search for a hidden colossus and secrets within the game, which lead to changes to the remaster. If you are into such things it shows what a dedicated fanbase and the power of great storytelling.
in Dormins defense, i dont think he was evil. maybe just mortals perceive him that way because he can control light (souls) and such acts are "vile" to the laws of mortals (just like kids with horns must be sacrificed is also a law of mortals) dormin did come through in the end and he gave wanderer warning that it would be a heavy toll. even now we dont know what dormin is. great lore for a game. imagine being in dormin shoes, just existing means you gotta be destroyed because of your power, kinda like the kids with horns
The 3rd Colossus with the brittle armor, what you needed to do was have him hit the circular stone platform in the middle of the arena to break his armor. You eventually got there by accident.
Not even close to "peak gaming". It's actually quite comparable to point and click games. It offers a good experience but overall isn't a very compelling game to continuously play. These type of games can never be considered "peak"; it blatantly contradicts the point of gaming, which is to keep playing over and over and over. If you're encouraged to move onto or buy a new game, that's respectfully an L. So, it's a good game in terms of lasting impact, but a failure in the core point of why we game or at least the best part about it. (Don't give me a cope response please - I'd bet half my game collection that if you had to choose to be stuck with 1 or 2 games for the rest of your life, this wouldn't be one of them. Overall not trying to be rude, just making a compelling argument. I like to challenge opinions, lol.)
@@windy3935 i don't judge art by the metric of whether or not i'd like to be trapped in a room for it for the rest of eternity. the point of games is not to keep playing over and over and over. otherwise fortnite and call of duty would be the greatest games ever made because millions of people play them for hundreds of hours for longer periods of time than anything else.
@@wishywoshua Not the art thing :/. Art and Gaming are two entirely different topics. Your comment said "peak *gaming"* and that's specifically what im talking about. Games are not only designed to be played but replayed. That is a fact, and we all indulge in that, especially when we come back to old games to replay them for x hours. If a game like Call of Duty and Fortnite, which are both some of the most popular games ever btw, keep sucking you back in then that's a legitimate W. There doing something right. It doesn't have to equate to "best games", that's something that you're saying. This overall point applies to all games btw, not just video games. There's a reason why we keep revisiting them over and over and over - that's their inherent purpose. We DO NOT buy these things just to experience once. Monopoly, Baseball, Chess, Tetris, etc. We replay these endlessly, FAR more than we revisit other forms of media. Again, you would not pick SotC as the single only game to live with for the rest of your life, and the reasoning for that speaks to the point im making. We all know it wouldn't be nearly as fun as certain other type of games. edit: Im actually going to move on. In quick hindsight I realized and remembered how pointless it is to argue with fans (in general), especially big ones.
@windy3935 you have an extremely narrow and diminutive definition of what video games are for. It's sad honestly. They ARE an art form in addition to all those things you mentioned. Imagine telling someone that it's dumb for them to want to be stuck reading ONLY Lord of the Rings for the rest of their lives, when it's so much more immediately satisfying and easy to read a magazine or some shit.. expand your thinking.
@@windy3935such a sad view on games but that’s the beauty of it as well. you have people like you who value replayability and others who value other aspects of games i personally value the experiences any game provides, whether it’d be the experience of a great narrative, immersion based on worldbuilding and visualization, or the thrill and competitiveness of shooters
You gotta be a super human how are u uploading all these games these quickly i gotta say your.editers are god tier this is faster then i can blink im still finishing up jak and daxter video
The ending can be interpreted that Wander was reborn as a baby and he becomes an ancestor of a lineage of boys with horns on their heads. He was reborn with horns and passed it down to ICO many years down the line. It’s never been confirmed by Ueda but there’s enough to make a compelling theory that SOTC is before ICO and wander could potentially be an ancestor to ICO being reborn with horns
I believe this game is the prequel to Ico. It's when boys with horns started. I also believe The Last Guardian is this games prequel, as it has 1 large animal that was a precursor to the colossi.

You're encouraged then to be gentle and maybe walk instead of running with her even though there's no actual gameplay benefit. And if you leave Yorda alone and give her some peace you might notice she is captivated by the birds seen around the castle (a reflection of her desire to be free).
SPOILERS for SotC and The Last of Us
SotC was also a game that really popularized the metanarrative of "you're doing a bad thing but it's a video game to you" and in a way the game punishes you in that last scene where you get your controls back and can struggle all you want to reach Mono (the girl) but you've already doomed yourself.
The ps4 remake is the best version and the music is made the most epic!
The PS3 remaster or the PS4 remake?
Absolutely killing it with all the content. Thank you Kasta!!
OMG this game looks amazing! Thank you Kasta for bringing this to the channel! I'm really going to enjoy this so baaaddd. Also, have a great Christmas day!❤
The music in this game *chef's kiss*
This was wonderful, always appreciate the time and attention you put into games
Ill take this as a Christmas gift from your part. One of my favourite games ever, an interactive experience of no equal. It will be a pleasure to enjoy it again with such a delightful host. Happy holidays, Kasta!!
Sorry I'm late to commenting on this beautiful walkthrough!!
Many thanks to covering my favorite game of all time!
It's not only a game but a work of art. The music. The storytelling. Just like your Ico walkthrough. This was a very well thought out walkthrough. Love that you include the manuals in every video. It shows true respect to the game ☺️
Maggie as a huge fan ❤ I love how you're covering some of the most important games that came to be throughout our time
Thank you for bringing back the memories 🙏🏽
I also love this game, but watching her play is torture.
One of the best games ever. Fumito Ueda's masterpiece.
The Last Guardian next?
@@Sasshi50 wasnt that good unfortunately like Shadow of the Colossus in my opinion. I didnt finish it, cause it felt very slow. But well.. maybe i should retry ..
@@Coldsilfur4 you absolutely should! Ending is worth it
@@malus333 Not just the ending !
@@White-Silent i agree but ending made the game masterpiece
This game was one of the most fascinating things I knew at the time, I was amazed by the simple fact of being able to move and focus the camera during the cutscenes
You’ve been reliving all our childhoods the last handful of playthroughs 😭 this is so awesome
Enjoy. 😂😂
Legendary Christmas upload. Cheers!
I love this game, definitely earns the title ´masterpiece´
I KNEW you'd love this one! My thoughts/observations:
You can climb the save shrines, and in fact need to in order to collect many of the salamander tails.
Shooting the final colossus's shoulder is something A LOT of people missed. Even if not, never apologize if you decide to look something up. It's your playthrough.
The beach at the end of Ico is in the game, and you ALMOST discovered it before even finding the first colossus. (B5 on the map.)
Fumito Ueda is notoriously mum on what everything explicitly means, so there is very little that is canon.
You absolutely must play The Last Guardien. Please prepare Yourself.
Glad you enjoy this game, one of the best ever made ! Ciao 🙃
Absolutely brilliant game ahead of its time. Throughly enjoyed watching. ❤
Literally just finished watching your Spyro run 5 minutes ago, and then this pops up.
Merry Christmas!
Please play The Last Guardian, to complete the trilogy! It's also amazing and timeless and beautiful
Omg! I love that game and the soundtrack
lets go so excited to watch you play this!!!
surprised you did this instead of the remake
This game is absolutely phenomenal no matter what system you play it on.
It was remade for ps4. I definitely recommend it and the soundtrack is so much more epic too.
👍
Congrats. You just experienced the best game ever
Another amazing playthrough Kastaclysm ❤❤🔥🔥.
The way Dormin blends singular and plural language is so cool to me. "We are the one known as Dormin."
I enjoyed hearing what you had to say during the manual reading and more how about how you got your name. 👏
The remake by bluepoint is beautiful. If you plan a second playthrough the remake could be fun.
There more little secrets in the remake but the rest is the exact same but very good looking.
I had wondered if this was gonna be the finale. What a wonderful and, I'd say, successful inaugural 12 days of christmas for youtube. Rock star picks.
11:32:15 that moment when you thought you got him but you just knocked off his blade killed me 😂😂😂
The amount of content you produce in such a short time is outstanding Maggie. You really are dedicated to your craft as a content creator. Hats off to you. Enjoy Christmas.
SHADOW PLAYTHRU DROP ON XMAS?! YUUUUUUP. Icon of a game, thank you thank you
The video that we've all been waiting for so glad you decided to play this you'll understand now what a great game this is
I played this game hunting collosi; you played it hunting salamanders. I never saw these creatures during my gameplay. Learn something new every day. 👍🏾
Shadow of the Colossus... One young hero's journey to resurrect his beloved with his trusty steed Agro. This game was a treasure when it released.
I got an udder mug for Christmas 😂🎄🐮 Merry Christmas again and thank you for finally playing this game 🥹❤️
I have no idea how you have so much more time to play these games than I have to watch you play them. But I’m so happy to have such epic content.
LOVE this game. Marry Xmas!
I imagine she’s making a living off of her Twitch stream and TH-cam videos. So, playing games is essentially her job.
I think she also prepared for the 12 games of Christmas in advance, so this rate won’t keep up (but she does record a lot regardless.)
Giants have always been my favorite fantasy creature. I remember being in a Target as a kid and browsing the game section. This game caught my eye, when it was first released. One of the best $50.00 I've ever spent.
Im at start intro skip was heatbreaking, i love to watch people react to it😢
Same with these types of 'art' games by this specific director.
I appreciate the long videos with a full playthrough.
This game is amazing! I lost count how many times I played it throughout my life. lool
Now that you played the original, it's a real treat to play the remaster of it. This game made me understand that some games can be an art. It changed me. The soundtrack is also amazing!
She won’t play the same game twice at least not for a long time plus she has a huge backlog.
BTW one thing you'll have missed is the white patch on Agro's face, because you have an Ico save on your memory card the patch is in the shape of the stylised 'I' from Ico, without that Ico save the patch would look different.
Now all that's left is The Last Guardian! If you can then play it on PS5 unpatched (easiest done by buying it on disc).
I think there are few bugs if you play without day one patch, i think 30 fps si fine for laat guardian
It's a piece of art for me. And no need to apologize, we are all used to modern controls. Although it was not too intuitive back then either. ;)
Yesss!! Looking forward to this 😆
I’m so happy I found yours and Anna’s channel this year, I wish I’d discovered you both sooner. Looking forward to more fun playthroughs in 2025 🥰 Merry Christmas 🎄🥂
There's a wonderful video about a forum user search for a hidden colossus and secrets within the game, which lead to changes to the remaster. If you are into such things it shows what a dedicated fanbase and the power of great storytelling.
incredible surprise for a video, merry christmas
in Dormins defense, i dont think he was evil. maybe just mortals perceive him that way because he can control light (souls) and such acts are "vile" to the laws of mortals (just like kids with horns must be sacrificed is also a law of mortals) dormin did come through in the end and he gave wanderer warning that it would be a heavy toll. even now we dont know what dormin is. great lore for a game. imagine being in dormin shoes, just existing means you gotta be destroyed because of your power, kinda like the kids with horns
Thanks for the full game❤❤
Yesssss! I KNEW this would be the last of the 12 Games when you started with Ico. So excited to watch this!
You are the best. Another amazing gameplay
One of the best, most atmospheric and engaging intro sequences of all time.
Skips it.
WTF?
You should play The Last Guardian if you haven't played it yet. It's from the same developer.
The 3rd Colossus with the brittle armor, what you needed to do was have him hit the circular stone platform in the middle of the arena to break his armor. You eventually got there by accident.
The last guardian... hopefully soon.
Been waiting to hear your thoughts on this game! This is one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. A true masterpiece. Merry Christmas Maggie!
peak gaming
@@windy3935such a sad view on games but that’s the beauty of it as well.
you have people like you who value replayability and others who value other aspects of games
i personally value the experiences any game provides, whether it’d be the experience of a great narrative, immersion based on worldbuilding and visualization, or the thrill and competitiveness of shooters
You gotta be a super human how are u uploading all these games these quickly i gotta say your.editers are god tier this is faster then i can blink im still finishing up jak and daxter video
My heart with this game 💔
The ending can be interpreted that Wander was reborn as a baby and he becomes an ancestor of a lineage of boys with horns on their heads. He was reborn with horns and passed it down to ICO many years down the line. It’s never been confirmed by Ueda but there’s enough to make a compelling theory that SOTC is before ICO and wander could potentially be an ancestor to ICO being reborn with horns
I believe this game is the prequel to Ico. It's when boys with horns started. I also believe The Last Guardian is this games prequel, as it has 1 large animal that was a precursor to the colossi.
shadow of the colossus and the last guardian were games that will remain in my life forever. Fumito Ueda is a genius! I loved your video.
