What an awesome way to have a large library of PS2 games. I have 4 PS2s slim and a large library but this could be a game changer and also to get the games I don't have. Good review and cool video Wicked!👍
You can also reuse old SD cards this way, which probably would not find a use in any other way.
It is also very portable, etc.!
@@tnaplastic2182 great!😊
Really great idea, I have the ceramic white Japan slim but I suspect there are too many titles that are glitchy or crash that stop this being the ultimate solution!
This is one of those things that I don't need but want, will get one eventually. PS3 is the best option for PS2 games and PSX, I used to buy PS2's and PS3's with broken drives just to mod them as a hobby.
that is another way to go indeed 😳
I've been waiting for this video you have a ton of these
👍👍
yeah I had to many idea's for video's regarding PS2 subject 😅
@@WickedGamerCollector what folder do i drop my game files in on the sd card, you never specified
I had a japanese modchipped fat black PS2, could run DVD backups pretty well. Friend bought the model in Japan when it came out and sold to me pretty cheap. Had 2 dual shocks, one silver and a black standard one. Had 80sh games, ranging from jrpgs (Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria etc.), survival horror (RE, Silent Hill etc) racing (Grab Turismo, NFS etc) and Fighting (Soul Calibur 3). Overall a great console, sold it cheap but kinda regret 😂. Cheers.
This sure is really cool, I do have a ps2 slim with fmbc on it. I have been just using the ethernet connection to play my ps2 games from my pc over the network instead seems to work pretty well actually. I might give this option a try soon.
Excellent video as always, very informative. Am looking forward to seeing how the MX4SIO performs as it's updated :)
Bought my PS2 later at the time. My slim PS2 burned out on me. Still have it and I’d like to modify it.
Pretty cool! Been a long time since ive used imgburn lol
that is retro my friend ! 😆😂

It is CURRENTLY ~1.85MB/s on FATs and 70k Slims (around double times as fast as USB and ~ 60-70% of SMB speeds) and ~1.3MB/s on DECKARD-PS2s. However... DECKARD-PS2s have some special potential, because they emulate the IOP!
I have two fat models and two slims I love them equally lol
in 2011 I mod my slim ps2, bruh It was so hard at that time because I didnt have a clue. now all i need is iso files to put in my usb or ext hdd and enjoy it. nice mods u have there cool stuff (Y)
11:20 Physical as well as virtual MemoryCards ARE supported in the BDM3-Test-build! It is hence obviously a software issue! ;)
I just want to add something..
You can save with this mod.
Only thing is that you must use specific OPL version:
(v.1.1.0-beta-1629-e20f2ee-bdm3).
I made my one mx4sio memory card from old broken one. Everyone can easy find schematics online and it works great. 🙂
Couldn't you also use the Sony branded ps2 multitap with extra memory card slots to bypass the memory card save issue?
@@AnarickTheDevil nice idea but I think you can't.
I don't have multitap to try that, but will try out when I acquire one.
I believe this is what I want to do instead of going with the hard drive route
Wow this is so awesome and cool 😎
I currently have the phat ps2*SCPH-39001 model and I'm enjoying using those freemcboot card order from that site 👍 and using a USB to play games
MX4SIO is ~twice as fast on FAT and 70k Slim, compared to USB!
I Use Retronas (you should check it out) no need for a SD Card anymore that's how I play my PS2 games on my Slim also use Mister and PS3 on Retronas
I hope there will be a solution to the whole save game thing (mabey to USB?), but this is a nice looking solution.
For me, on PS2 Fat model, internal HDD with NA, or LAN server. On PS2 Slim, use LAN server. Nothing beats this way in term of speed. But this MX4SIO option is not so bad..
MX4SIO has the big advantage of being very versatile due to it being Plug&Play! You go to a friend with your game-collection and an exploited MemoryCard and can play and it all matches into your pocket!
@@tnaplastic2182 Portability, yes. Compatibility? That's something need to also consider about.
@@jakapratama2590 The compatibility is actually quite high, but it is obviously an *experimental* project! ;)
@tnaplastic2182 the network one is also plug and play, you can bring your laptop and plug it into the PS2 and have all your games show up there
Or you can even use an android phone with a USB to ethernet adapter and run an SMB server with your phone.
I personally own the scph 90004 it's best one but it's not support global mode
Nice video, it's working on ps2 fat?
I was all in until I saw the crooked label LOL. I had the gen 1 ps2 that had a 316 wire mod chip installed… ok maybe 54 wires. Lol . Got that badboy from liksang company. I wonder if anyone remembers liksang? They Are the OG of mod chip sales.
I want to know if it's a big memory card as well? Or is it just to store games.
What's the capability like? The drive have better.
Wonder if ps1 games are going to be able to run now like if it was a disk with this. It's a different way now.
I have a question, If i get some other sd card from the market (for example a 256 gb) do i need to format the sd card or make some special files for the iso or just drop the games (iso file) in the sd card and boot up opl?
Most cards are in FAT32. On portion 6:30 of the vid, he is in the properties of the card, and it shows FAT32. I would make sure it is a class 10, but most are class 10s, I have also heard bad things about Micro SD cards, so Id make sure it is only an SD card, not a micro with the adapter. Aside from that, it looks like you should be good to go from there.
We would appreciate, if you could add links to the original project-threads on psx-place and trisaster! ;)
Too much money at $146 for the 128Gb vers... Hellsss nooo.. I checked today..
yea that you can get it cheaper off of amazon lol
The link to Aliexpress describes these things works for Fat PS2, not slim. Can we still purchase those MX4SIO, SIO2SD for fat ps2?
Can I use an SSD with only opl? I have one laying around.
can you plug a multi tap into the slim to get more memory card slots?
that is one good idea .. let me find a multi tab here.
Can I use it for storage save game only ? Just like regular Mc card with huge space ?
The Dead or Alive 2 file you converted to an ISO file has a file size too large for the FAT32 formatted flash memory you showed. I have a PS2 Slim, one that works with a standard FMCB v1.966 card, with a dead optical drive which I haven't been able to fix through the use of troubleshooting methods found on-line. For that reason I'm converting games I OWN to ISOs and have run into the FAT32 4GB file size limit for many of them. An exFAT formatted flash drive which allows file sizes greater that 4GB does NOT work despite one claim online I saw that it does.
Also, THE game I'd settle for as the ONLY game on the system if I could get it working is Crazy Taxi. However, it's not a DVD, it's a CD-ROM and imgBurn gives a warning that it's not the type of disc that would normally be converted to an ISO, but gives the option to do so. However, the resulting ISO and any other ISO made from a game on CD-ROM instead of a DVD also do not run. What's a fix for this?
BTW, a 32GB flash drive is far too small. The nine games I've converted to ISOs thus far take up 19GB. What is the maximum USB flash drive size directly supported by the PS2 Slim's USB port?
For the first problem: You should use USBUtil. It basically separates the game into smaller parts, as a result, you can play games which are too big for FAT32.
For second problem: DVD and CD games have their own respective folder in USB folder. You must put CD games into CD folder, not DVD folder.
Also, you can try to run your backups on emulator (PCSX2) to see if they are working or not.
@@OrangeChan Thanks. What is the maximum USB flash drive size that the PS2 port can support?
@@winstonsmith478 From what I can find on the internet, FAT32 file system has 2 TB limit, so that's the maximum storage you can get from it.
@@winstonsmith478 Also, If you use USB stick, you should be careful about defragmentation too. OPL doesn't like fragmented games, and you can't use defragmentation on USB sticks. If I were you, I would use USB HDD instead, and finally, you will encounter stuttering in FMVs because of speed that PS2's USB ports capable of, also loading won't be as fast as DVD,SMB,HDD.
@@OrangeChan "You must put CD games into CD folder" As ISOs, IMG, or BIN? I get 404 errors when I attempt to access the links in the on-line Open PS2 Loader 0.9.3 - User guide.
I heard that the PS1 hardware has access to the memory card slot so it might be possible to get MX4SIO to play PS1 games without POPs that would be so epic all PS2 games on HDD & all PS1 games on MX4SIO instead of VCD BS
Afaik the physical PS1 CPU inside the PS2 is responsible for loading memory card and USB, so i dont think it's possible
Popstation on the otherhand emulates PS1 hardware on the PS2 CPU itself.
Ben jij ook diagnose Dan?
playing in hdd is best way to play games in ps2 both in loading time hdd runs flawless entire library can be made in 2tb drive but usb is worst method offcourse extremely slow I think sd card method shall be much faster than usb only then it's worth it
HDD is indeed the best way for me to. 😳
@@WickedGamerCollector indeed wicked pls make a video comparing the loading times as well regards
What is the largest size SD card it can handle?
Can you try the OPL mini travel router method to test? I've heard it's faster then original disk.
Would a normal micro SD card with an adapter work just fine
where do i drop my game files? all he said was in the sd card but he never specified what folder
All reviews I have seen show this is SLOWER than loading from a network.. so why all the song and dance?
Need to setup everything up .. want to make ultimate comparison.
HDD, USB HDD, USB Stick, SSD, SD ... ultimate compare with some different games.
It's going to be crazy work making this video.
@@WickedGamerCollector look forward to a wicked good video 😄
Doesn't work on 9xx models, right? Not yet for me..
It should work on every PS2!
click on the link in description, and read the warnings carefully.
no it doesn't and only the funtuna version will work on all ps2s
What do you have to do when games don’t show up?!
Can you use a ps2 multitap with memory card slots to be able to bypass the memory card save issue?
so where can you find the sd cards you have? ☺️
Great update.
All the AliExpress memory cards come in the worst colors. Just have a smoke black option lol
Hi, can you save games on memory slot 2 ?
Can you save on it?
Every slim I've ever had just breaks. Doesn't seem as well built.
will this mod work on my 75001 model?
Yes, but I'd check for a date code by the model number, hopefully it is 8B or lower. If it is 8C or above, that means it may be a little harder to do, but probably still doable. My model is 77001 and the code is 7A. This is a manufacture date code, and they updated security around the 3rd quarter of 2008 (8C).
Even these should be compatible though, as what this does is launches this as a "DVD", then crashes the DVD software (on purpose), and allows the code from Free MCBoot take control, giving you the menu. I found a thread from a supposed dev from this software stating he ran a test on one of the 75001 model PS2s, and he stated it works just not with a Micro SD card, only a base SD card.
i have both systems
Should be cool to see the MX2SI0 vs the MC2SIO soft mod when the MC2SIO is more readily available.
Would love to check it all out .. yeah need to find it it's out of stock forever 😳
Make video of mod xbox 360 E
11:31 what game is this? Looks fun
thats "ride or die" yeah I want to try it too. looks cool
It's called free mcboot not free mcbooth
deja vu
a glitch in the TH-cam matrix 😎
