- Sunday afternoon drive through Napa Valley near San Francisco California along the popular Silverado Trail. This area is the premier wine region of the USA and home to over 800 wineries. The video starts in downtown Napa, continues along the Silverado Trail to Calistoga, and back towards downtown Napa.

Napa Valley AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in Napa County in California's Wine Country. Napa Valley is considered one of the premier wine regions in the world. Records of commercial wine production in the region date back to the nineteenth century, but premium wine production dates back only to the 1960s.
The combination of Mediterranean climate, geography and geology of the region are conducive to growing quality wine grapes. John Patchett established the Napa Valley's first commercial vineyard in 1858. In 1861 Charles Krug established another of Napa Valley's first commercial wineries in St. Helena. Viticulture in Napa suffered several setbacks in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including an outbreak of the vine disease phylloxera, the institution of Prohibition, and the Great Depression. The wine industry in Napa Valley recovered, and helped by the results of the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, came to be seen as capable of producing the best quality wine - equal to that of Old World wine regions. Napa Valley is now a major enotourism destination.
Napa Valley as a top wine region
In 1976, the region got a boost from the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, which featured a Napa Valley Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon besting several famous French labels in a blind tasting format. The story of the wine competition, termed the "Judgment of Paris", was made into a Hollywood movie in 2008, called Bottle Shock. The results of this tasting cemented the region's reputation as a producer of world class wines.
A trend of larger national and international companies like E & J Gallo Winery, Diageo and Constellation Brands buying smaller wineries, vineyards and brands began to gain momentum in the early part of the 21st century. Today Napa Valley features more than 450 wineries that grow grape varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Merlot, Zinfandel, among others. While winemakers may produce wines from specific AVAs within the valley, many wines are made as a blend from grapes grown on the valley floor and the surrounding hillsides.

What I love most about your videos is NO TALK, NO MUSIC. Just the sound of a the car on the road. I had no idea how much of a difference that makes. It’s just a long, peaceful Sunday drive…on demand. I have only one criticism…I hate waiting at the stop lights with you. If you could edit those out with a nice, quick fade, I’d be willing to sacrifice the beauty of an uninterrupted drive. Otherwise, you have by far, the best, most enjoyable 4K driving videos on TH-cam. I’m incredibly glad I found your channel!

Great feedback! I was just thinking about the stop light thing and was planning to do a poll on it. The funny thing is, people consistently vote to keep them in. Maybe no more than 10 seconds of stop light light? I don't know. I have always planned on doing more of the 360 video so you could just look around at stop lights. That's the plan at least!

Not being able to look out the window is unfortunate. But the rest of the video is so wonderfully soothing that you stop caring after awhile. Thank you so much for these videos. I don’t think you know how important your videos are to people right now. For those of us trapped in our homes, it’s like being able to go on vacation anywhere in the world in perfect safety during the pandemic. And for free. No hotels or restaurants. Just a nice leisurely drive. I can even fall asleep at the wheel.
And I tried the video to Santa Monica hooked up to my air pods with noise cancelling on. It was dreamy! I have an app called Sleep Machine, and it allows me to blend my music with sound effects like beach waves and wind. It was like really being there! I’m betting there are thousands of us all over the globe just kicking back with a glass of wine, enjoying a virtual vacation to wherever you’re driving us. This is so much better than Google Earth. 😊

Beautiful place. I've lived all over after being born in England...I've been in a few countries in Africa, b/too Australia, Canada...although I've been fascinated with California my whole life...I sure hope I get to visit and I would gladly stay 😃😃😃

Does it get cold enough to snow here?
@@Melissa-gz1wg Not at the lower elevations where the towns are. We get snow above 3,000 feet in the highest hills several times a winter. Below 2,000 feet it rarely snows. Near zero elevation, it almost never snows. Maybe once every ten years, but just a few flakes. When I want to see snow I only have to drive 45 minutes to the nearest high mountain, that is, if a cold storm just blew through.
I was born and raised in Napa [Currently live with my bf in Petaluma CA now] and it's so cool to see a 4k video of my home.

Born and raised in St. Helena, now living in Australia. At 23:15 I grew up in the house on the right. Cant wait to get back home to visit family after COVID.

I live in Sonoma and have driven all of this countless times and never get tired of it. J, if you really want to see something, come back and film it in the fall , early mid November when all the vines are going into their fall colors. Focus on the Silverado Trail side. My wife and I make a point of doing this every year. Also, another road less traveled drive that you'd love is the Westside Road drive in the Russian River area.

Sensational. We've made this drive too many times to count over the years and it never gets tired. We know these wineries very well ... Too bad your camera doesn't pan to fully show the magnificent scenery. The valley is 30 miles long and 3 miles wide. Vineyards everywhere!
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, at 12:33, made Napa Valley world-famous in 1976 when it won the Judgment of Paris, a promotional wine competition among French and California wines. The area thrived with the growing prominence of California wine.

Lived there during college, man, good times. The wine 🍷, the concerts, the nights driving the valley under a full moon and turning off the headlights to see the silver illumination. 8:57, the beer stop for tailgating parties heading down to concerts/ sports events in SF. 11:43 used to be Chimney Rock golf course on the right, snuck in played midnight golf with glow in the dark golf balls, bummed they made it another vineyard. 22:05 entrance to the most posh restaurant in the valley, Auberge du Soliel, waited tables there, had a great 20 minute talk with Robert Redford and his wife. Chill guy. 26:16 entrance to Meadowwood, big hangout for Joe Montana, plus a killer croquet course. 27:54 the college PUC is up the hill on the right. Whoever put a college in the middle of wine country, thank you! 39:50 Calistoga, the tourists drink in St. Helena, the locals drink here 🍻40:39, where I met my wife ♥️ 53:29 Giuni’s Sandwiches. Best in the valley!

wow you sure were lucky to have been there two weeks ago if that in fact as when the video was shot and taking this as today is 8-21-20 and the fires have been burning for two days straight with a couple hundred thousand acres already burned zero containment .! it sure won't look like that for another couple years
and if I had to put any kind of music to something that beautiful my first choice of course would be heavy metal my second would be the band type o negative but if I had to put something out there that everybody could listen to and is truly beautiful and a spiritual song that would be the full entire album tubular bells Mike Oldfield

at 10:15 go left right there at Oak Knoll ave off Silverado Trail where there driving on now, to go to my house. At 11:43 is Clos Du Val winery, great wine. At 14:04 is where Ron and Diane Disney Miller's Silverado Vineyards is. At 38:19 should have gone right Lake County HWY to Tubbs Lane turn left and on the right side is Chateau Montelena Winery where it all started for wines in Napa County. That’s where the movie "Bottle Shock" was made with Bill Pullman (playing Chateau Montelena’s Jim Barrett), Chris Pine (as Jim’s son Bo Barrett) great movie, fun destination.Fun video. Thanks

Very nice video quality but if I could make a suggestion: would be nice to hear the actual outdoor sounds of driving and traffic for even more realistic experience watching this on my big screen tv with my Bose surround sound system and a powerful industrial fan blowing as well!

What a lovely place, blue sky's and sunshine, nice country views and great smooth open roads. Is your top speed limit 55mph though? here in England it's 70mph and our roads are smaller and narrower by comparison. Very impressed with the bike lanes along those long country road's and there a were a number of people using them as well :-)

I cant believe they skipped Yountville, they went through Napa, Calistoga, and St Helena! Yountville is a beautiful little town, its the heart of the valley.
