Never meeting Maud Lewis but watched the movie of Sally playing the part of Maud. I felt a movement in Sally’s portrait of her capturing the sweet spirit of a young woman who grew up way too young from the death of her parents. She was shuffled around. I think when she applied for the position from a gruff looking young man she felt her life was always that way. The desperate state we thrive in puts us into survival mode. Maude reclaimed her life in some ways. She never knew how strong she really was. Bravo to the actors and writers and producers!
Brilliant actress. Loved this movie. So many aspects of human behavior and the complications of relationship with people who were outcast by people’s norm. Ethan was amazing. I believe one of his best roles. He was difficult but attentive when need be. Both actors complimented each other and you can tell there was a long life experience in their craft.
