It allows people to have civil discourse over topics presented. No one interrupts. No one shouts. Each side presents their point of view or suggestion. Votes are made by the members to pass or fail.
Example:
Member: "I propose a motion that cake and cookies be supplied by management at the next staff meeting and all required meetings in the future."
2nd random Member: I'll second that motion." (Someone must support the suggestion/motion or else - "The motion fails.")
Casually speaking, when someone makes a statement you agree with, as a show of support - "I'll second that...."

This plot was funny but for me it's also a bit scary. Around 10 years ago I had a tarot reading by a psychic that predicted I was was going to die in 5 years. I didn't really believe her but just in case I asked if there was any way to stop it. She said she could perform a ritual for me but the death would pass onto someone I loved. I didn't like that either but I also didn't believe her so I agreed, better than me I guess. 5 years later one of my best friends died on the same exact date I had the reading. The death was a mysterious one, something to do with the brain that I didn't really understand but was apparently super rare, and that friend had lived a very healthy lifestyle. I try to tell myself it was coincidental but I can't help but feel like supernatural stuff might be real out there somewhere...

I remember when I first saw this show as a child. I for the life of me could not understand where they were. I was so confused about the concept of a couch in the middle of a coffee shop. And even now something like that could never exist. A group of friends could not frequent the living room setup in the middle of a cafe, talking about their lives without it being a spectacle and harboring the attention of everyone else in the place. Absolutely not. It took me ages to wrap my head around the very idea of it.
