Disney child stars seem so bright and innocent that kids tend to model after them. But there are a lot of messed up rules they have to follow. These young celebs faced a lot of keep up with their wholesome and positive image. They’re coached, molded, and forced to be on their best behavior at all times. But that’s not always easy to do. And when they break the rules and misbehave like any other teen, they embarrass themselves and Disney Execs, too. But that’s showbiz for you. It’s no secret that Hollywood is emotionally intense.
Even grown-up celebs have a tough time keeping their chins up. But kids have it even rougher. So many former Disney child stars have fallen prey to the notorious Disney Curse. But instead of an enchanted spinning wheel or a poisoned apple, these stars ran into trouble with the network, had mental breakdowns, or suffered personal and financial loses. So now the Disney legacy is tarnished with child stars who are associated with scandals and antics that make people’s eyes roll.
But while some of this Hollywood Gods have grown up and fallen from grace, others have gotten hit by the Disney curse over and over and still managed to come back swinging. Some didn’t even need to do much fighting at all. They stayed strong and avoided going off the deep end like other child actors. So just wait until you see which former Disney stars managed to avoid self-destruction on the way to the top.

I don’t think it’s a Disney curse so much as the unfortunate consequences childhood fame. Too much too soon. Jonathan Brandis wasn’t a Disney star neither was Drew Barrymore. Disney just has more of these cases because they hire so many young people.

Positive Echo no. As you might know, Disney puts immense extra pressure on its coworkers like speaking in a higher pitch, keeping a squeaky clean image, etc.( you can see it videos about Disney) The pressures of Disney are so much that even adult stars complain about it.

The rate at which young Disney stars turn bad or hit rock bottom. It’s really more so something that happens to any young person who becomes super famous at a young age. It’s not exclusive to Disney.

I feel like this is them either trying to deal with something traumatic and lashing out, them wanting to break away from the Disney image, or they literally just do whatever because they got all this money and fame at this age while everyone is just trying to keep their grades up and pass tests

The curse isn't just a Disney thing. The ones who survive and go on to successful careers usually have parents that support them and let their child have say so in what they do. This allows them to develop more normally, although their lives will never be the same as those who don't grow up under the critical eyes of producers who in the past have not known how to get the performance they want without verbally, abusing kids mentally and emotionally.
The sense of self and who you are starts developing early and lasts for years usually culminating somewhere in your twenties. Kids who are in the biz for the long haul are usually there because of parent/s and may end up supporting their family. These are the ones the entertainment industry chews up snd spits out. The problems that crop up are many but the ones whose careers that don't survive, isn't 100% their fault, their natural childhood development is derailed and many of those who end up abusing substances do so to cope with life even though it doesn't work long term, many times it's an adult they've trusted for years that introduce them to drugs and alcohol, sometimes while still underage.
So those that had families that didn't put stress on them are lucky.
