I saw Camelot at the Majestic Theater on Broadway in New York with that remarkable original cast in the summer of 1961 when I was 18 and just out of high school - JFK was President, and the world full of hope - Julie Andrews was just 27, Richard Burton the most amazing stage presence, Robert Goulet with that incredible singing - it was truly a brief shining moment - before any assassinations, before the Vietnam War - and now all these decades later, I look back on it with such poignancy and fondness - a truly rare brief shining moment in life….❤
Julie with her grace and Burton with his muscle were unbeatable forces for this musical.
What a voice, what a face, what a talent. Julie must be a once in a millennia talent.

Fantastic to see Burton kicking up his heels in the final clip. He commands the screen like no one else. I can only imagine what it must have been like to see him on stage.
what skillful diction and beautiful ease of singing by richard burton and richard harris. i especially like the way r. burton treats the phrasing and lightness great pitch. i abslutely love it. just what i learned from my voice teacher. just paying close attn. to these singers is a wonderful lesson. so grateful for what gifts they gave us.

I appreciate that they kept the love triangle "pure" and unselfish and ennobled by making it "unfaithful" in their heads and not consummating physical love between Launcelot and Guinnevere. That all 3 loved each other and didn't want to hurt each other or the Table. It made it all the more tragic to see the destruction of the new order of chivalry and civilized idealism.
Wonderful interviews concerning the rocky road for "Camelot". Lerner and Lowe had to follow the incredible success of "My Fair Lady" so the bar was very high indeed. Was there ever a more beautiful and gifted leading lady than Julie Andrews? Very good interview with Robert Goulet as well.
...for one brief shining moment, that was known as Camelot.
I wish I could have seen the four hour version but way too many people seem to have short attention spans and get easily bored. Pity.
And JFK loved Camelot and played the origional cast recording all the time.

my father entered in to IATSE by pulling the curtains for Camelot and from there life was a fantastic ride that I still would not have missed

julie andrews is awesome, that goes with her always. she.is awesome what a treasure. i think the.others needed to have awareness made once again as well. julie andrews is so fantastic. forever lives inside.the.inspiration of my.heart too. i hope she is well. would.like to hear from her.again anything.new she.has to talk about a master class perhaps.

Doe the entire original production exist anywhere on film?
+mike michael If it does exist, it's in someone's vault. Though, it's never been released. Unfortunately, most broadway shows usually don't even video tape or film one show for posterity. It's just a little short-sighted if you ask me. More recent musicals have made video versions, but sometimes they just don't hold up on camera due to exaggerated movements that allow all of the audience to see and hear what's going on. I guess stage producers aren't fond of cross promotion, which in film can make or break a production.
There is likely no complete film version of the original cast. The video excerpts we've seen come from two programs, the March 19, 1961 Ed Sullivan Show and the 1962 "Broadway of Lerner and Loewe" NBC special.
There are film clippits of the actual show in color, but i dont know why the person never handed over the entire piece. SOmeone however did post an audio of the live show

Gosh, 8 years later and nobody's ever answered this question! I guess that history has not been so well preserved, in the age of the internet, after all. I am old enough, but alas a bit too old to be certain of my memory 's authenticity.
