Mika for president! Hakkinen vs Schumacher was the last rivalry that really excited me. Both great guys and a very fair fight! Hakkinen is a worthy 2 time champion!
I started watching F1 back in 1997. I supported Michael Schumacher but after what he did with Villeneuve I switched to Hakkinen. Those three years, 1998-2000, were the best in my opinion. Schumi and Mika, the last really great rivalry in F1!
Don't be too harsh on Schuey. The Villeneuve thing in my opinion was like fight or flight for him and that was his instinct when attacked or surprised. I think his rivalry with Mika was so tough but so fair because he was the only guy he really respected and feared. These bad or good moments make memories of F1 controversial but great.
Don't be too harsh on Schuey ? I suppose that incident at Adelaide with Hill in 94 was also an innocent fight or flight response too huh ? The guy was a cheat, out and out cheat, when he didn't do shit like that on track he had to settle for race wins being given to him by contract forcing his team mates to give way if winning, to me he won one title fairly in 95.
Beija Flor He should have won about 11 actually if he did not drive a 'piece of junk, a disaster' in 96 and 97 as Irvine said about Schuey's car, breaking his leg in 99 and the FIA changing the regulations to stop the Schumacher domination in 2005. You might not know it but there is a lot at stake in F1. It is dog eat dog. Jackie Stewart was commentating live in 94 and said Hill just 'barged in' and was 'hesitant'. Have a look at this video and the in car view and his opinion for a different opinion against what is usually just anti german rubbish. Like Senna was an angel! If you are going to dominate a sport, you need a ruthless streak. Hill was a bit of a plonker and hesitated and stuffed up twice crashing into Michael in 95. He was lucky that Schuey gave him a title while he ran around in a piece of junk in 96 and still won 3 races. Also check out the Coulthard interview. Only now can he admit that Schuey destroyed everyone, himself included. On the subject of the video here, his fights with Hakkinen were very fair. th-cam.com/video/MBBoNMBZZ0o/w-d-xo.html
Senna did the exact same thing...and everybody still thinks he was the greatest. So why should we feel anything different about Michael? The fact is MS was and is and will remain for a very long time the greatest F1 driver ever, but, and there's a pretty big but, he needs to be given even more credit due to the fact he managed winning championships when racing against Mika... Mika really was good, I used to hate him for beating MS...but now I've grown to appreciate him more and more each day, and their relationship, their competitiveness and most of all their respect for each other and each other's skills!
I migth be little late, but as a Finn I would like to say that he is definetly the best racing driver Finland has ever met. If Schumacher wasn't his opponent he would won so much more. That being said Schumacher was and is the all time greatest F1 driver in my opinion. Their battle were intense, full of heart and respect.
If any of them (Senna, Schumi, Hakkinen) had an incredibly superior car for 7 years in a row, like Lewis has, they would have won more than 7 WDCs. Yes, they had great cars for a few years (usually non-consecutive), but not for 7 years like our nowadays alleged "GOAT" has.
