    You have a beautiful cabin surrounded by some wonderful scenery. That is a nice tree cutting technique could come in handy. Thank you for another wonderful video 👍🏻🇺🇲

      Thanks Robert. More coming and a couple of winter trips planned as well for camping and fishing. Hopefully more cold weather and snow is coming so we can have some safe trips ahead. Thanks for watching.

    Thank you very much for the video. Very peaceful to watch and that contraption you showed is pretty neat! Happy New Year and God Bless!

      Thank you and Happy New Year to you! Yes the tree pusher works well and I'm happy I found it in a Finland video. A safer way to bring down dead balsam around the cabin. Glad you liked the video.

    So glad to hear from you again George. Funny I have 3 people I watch deer hunting and all 3 have birds that they hand feed. Very nice to watch. They have to do something with the wolf population before it gets better I’m afraid.

      Nice to have the company of the birds when hun ting is bad. There will have to be a balance between deer and wolves at some point. A mild winter would help and we definitely have that so far this winter but it will take years I think to get deer back in the area.

    Great video George. Very relaxing to watch. Reminds me a lot of our hunting in northern Michigan, except we have deer to hunt. If you are still doing the knife thing can you send me your web site.

      Having deer around would be nice but I think that will take some time to come back. The mild winter so far this year will help if that continues. I shut down my website for now when the price tripled. I am looking for alternatives and hope to get something up again this winter. When that happens we will do another video to let folks know where it is. Glad you liked the video.

    Bummer, no deer but a slick trick with the bumper jack. I've only ever used rope or a com along. Happy New Year !

      Very happy I came across that video in Finland. It just makes it safer and easier to bring down most trees around the cabin. Much faster than having to use the ropes and com along. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks for the video, George!
    We all look forward to deer hunting and sorry to say, most of us will be older before our deer herds repopulate. Hopefully, not too old😉

    Good video George. Looks like that tool will make it safer when you are alone and felling trees. Safety first is always prudent.

      It worked great. My neighbors borrowed it to drop some dead balsam near buildings and were impressed as well. Thanks for watching!

    Very nice video George.. I feel sorry for you guys hunting Northeast Minnesota… the wolves have certainly ruined the hunting there. .. I had a wonderful Deer season in Northwest Michigan …a big 6 pt buck aged at 4.5 yrs opening day and a 2nd buck ..a 8 pt just before thanksgiving aged at 3.5 yrs by our DNR poeple here…I’m lucky ..I don’t have Wolves to deal with..Michigans UP deer herd is in shambles as well from Wolf packs killing off to many deer…UP businesses are loosing much money due to lack of deer hunters coming to hunt Michigans UP… Knives I got from you working out very good this last year……

      It is an issue in a lot of places. Tough to see an area void of deer in the last 2 years. It will be a long time before the herd returns at the cabin I feel. Tough winters and wolves took out everything. Sounds like you took some nice bucks. Nice to see some viewers having success. Thanks for watching.

    Man, you have some friendly birds up there! I've seen more deer in my back yard down here in the city than I've seen up north the last three years.

      Same here, deer in town, in the yard eating apples that fell . The grey jays are a very trusting bird when you have something to feed them. Always fun being so close to nature! Glad you liked the video.

    I'm going to try that system of cutting trees down thanks George awesome video Happy New year 🎄❄️🦌

    • @living_north
      @living_north  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We have used that method several times now on the dead balsam and it has worked flawlessly each and every time. Neighbors borrrowed it too to drop balsam near cabins and were impressed. I'm glad I came across the video from Finland and was able to take their idea and use it here. They make a commercial one that runs hundreds into a $1000 or more depending on size. For about $150 I'm happy with this unit. Good luck and I hope it works for you too.

    It's a shame you didn't even see a track. It really makes it hard to even go out knowing your not gonna see a deer. Better luck next year. At least you enjoy being there even with no deer. They really gotta do something about the wolves. Thanks George

      I enjoyed staying at the cabin for the full season in the past. The last 2 years we left after the first week since we never saw a track or a pic on the cameras. I think it will be a long time before the numbers increase in NE Minnesota. Sad to see and experience. When wolf numbers were low, deer could survive the tough winters. Now that is a deadly combo. Thanks for watching Todd.

    Thanks for the update George. The Minn DNR says there are about 2600 wolves in Minnesota (and 400,000 hunters). Do you think that is right - for the wolf number?

    • @living_north
      @living_north  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do not believe the DNR number is accurate. I think there are more likely 4000-5000. It seems like the lower number allows for less management issues. It is stated that the number has stayed pretty consistant but if you talk with hunters, the numbers they see and the areas they are in has expanded significantly over the past few years. Once the deer are eliminated then the wolves move into residential areas and farm areas to find prey. When that happens, things will change for everyone. Glad you liked the video.

      All is good now. Should be a video coming out showing the damage and repair of the outhouse. It could have been much worse. Life in the woods I guess. Thanks for watching Scott.

    Its unfortunate the wolves have gotten so out of hand. There is a reason our ancestors got rid of them.
    Happy New Year!

    • @living_north
      @living_north  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks eric. Wolves have done a number on the herd as has the tough winters. The deer didn't have a chance with that combo. They survived the tough winters in the past when the wolf numbers were low but now they are gone in a lot of NE minnesota. It will take a long time to come back I'm afraid. Happy New Year to you as well!

    I would say deer hunting up there is done from the population of wolves that has increased. They must be in my pastures here in Missouri. Every early evening I can hardly count the numbers we see. Mainly bucks and the reason we see so many is because i put alot of corn down. I also feed the turkeys.

    • @living_north
      @living_north  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It used to be that way here too but not for awhile now. Tough winters and predators have changed hunting in much of the state. I guess that is the way nature works, good and bad. Thanks for watching.

    don;t cut any trees and you'll live longer

    • @living_north
      @living_north  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Truth in that but the insects have killed the trees and I'm not waiting for the dead ones to land on the buildings before we do something. The other bad thing is the fire hazard the dead trees create. That is something we have to consider as well. If a wildfire starts it will be a bad deal for everyone so the sooner the dead trees get removed, the lower the chance of fire around the cabin. Thanks for watching.
