Possums aren't equipped for cold winters. They are susceptible to frostbite on their ears and tails because they don't hibernate and have to keep foraging for food. Help them out with some seeds and peanut butter etc...
Poor little guy shouldn't have to work so hard for an empty belly. I'm glad you gave him something after this acrobatic attempt. I feed two of them every night on my porch in the city. I made them a warm nest in my garage that they go to every night. I actually got to pet both of them. They no longer try to run away when i open the door to give them mire food. I hope to see little Joey's this springtime. Beautiful creatures!
Awww, what a cute little furball. 😻 So glad he got food in the end for all his hard work. I just love that tail, how it grabs onto things! The cat and squirrels are also cute.
Honestly just gonna go out on a limb here and say I think he earned it at this point. He’s a lot heavier than a squirrel you can tell that climb took some effort😂
So impressive! I would have fed it something for all the hard work it did to get to the bird feeder, just to find bird seeds or feed, but its hungary and will die if no food. This is a good video to show to people how hard the possom tried, but never gave up. Possum or human..the struggle for food to stay alive.
Watch out, those armedillos can carry leprosy in their blood they don't have to bite you to contract it all you need to do is get some of there blood on an open cut
great video thanks for uploading! also just want to gently inform cause i see a lot of people in the comments saying to feed to the opossum, when you feed opossums or raccoons it puts a strain on wildlife because they become dependent on humans for a food source. this puts them in harms way by putting pressure on the animal and raising the risk for accidents to happen. i know y’all mean well and it can feel like a you’re doing a nice thing but it’s important to let wild animals scavenge for their own food. 😌
@@Piperjones12 I have 4 opossums in my yard that I put out fruits or veggies that are going bad (only when I have some) they’re very respectful.. they come on my deck to look for food, eat it then quietly leave, but if they don’t see any food then the peacefully leave.. there would be times where I don’t have any food for a week and they all come on the deck to look then peacefully leave.. so I wouldn’t believe everything you read on google
Out in the woods at a semi famous training area. Slept outside in a makeshift chair next to the fire and listen to the latches on the flight crates thumping from Opossum, racoons, grey fox and an armadillo trying to get into the crates. Then it struck me. They all knew the latches where the key to getting into the crates. That's pretty amazing.
Those squirrels by the try were like "Hol up, WAIT A MINUTE! That's our food! Dude better not make it. I've tried over 1000 times and could never get on that house!"
Possums metabolism is too cold to catch rabies, they keep mice and rats down, they've been around since the late Cretaceous (the time of the Dinosaurs) and they generally stay out of people's way, being nocturnal and all. They're kinda ugly and not all that bright, they're the underdog and it's why I like them. If someone can put out dried corn for squirrels, they sure as hell can put out a few boiled sweet potatoes for possums and show them a little love, they sure as hell can use it......
No one in the comments noticed the squirrels eating on the pile of corn in the background? Apparently the opossum simply preferred bird seed. Lol! Oh, I see, he's after the suet. 😂

Well, this solves the mystery of my bird feeder getting broken in the night. I guess the discarded cat food wasn't enough. Can't believe how they can grip the pole.
You can see the cornseeds in the background near the tree. This guy loves and respects nature and you must be sure this lil acrobat can fill his/her stomach in that beautiful garden.

just an update...I did feed him after this! I love opossums. I've never had an aggressive one approach, they are pretty shy.

It's cold outside. Give a bit of dry cat food. A possumeats about 500 ticks per season, mice, snakes & are North America's only Marsupials

You can NEVER feed them, or you will have an aggressive possum at your front door when you don't. Google it. That's dangerous.

This autumn i had a rat who decided to live in my garden. She was also climbing bird feeder pole and she succeeded.

I guess he wanted the suet but there was plenty of seed dumped on the ground for all of them.
sometimes the seeds attract beetles, other insects, and animal scan get those. Maybe not in winter as much. Love that Possum !
