Hosta will survive being divided into many separate plants but the bigger ones can take 3-5 years to reach their potential size each time they are divided. Shade and generous watering will keep hosta happy after division. Once you find the right location you never have to divide the hosta unless you want to take them with you when you move. You did a good job!
You say that the Halcyon Hosta cost you 5 dollars. Here in the UK a Hosta of that size and quality would cost the equivalent of at least 25 to 30 dollars!!

I would have divided this into 6 or more plants LOL
I have just pulled until they're all separate and that's how many there are. Also, I do this after more than 3 years, to be honest.
