- A playthrough of Taito's 1994 platform game for the Super Nintendo, The Flintstones: The Treasure of the Sierra Madrock.
The first SNES Flintstones game (and the much better of the two) is a pretty classic example of a good-quality classic platformer by the old arcade powerhouses of old. It really doesn't do anything revolutionary, but it's a blast to play, evokes all the charm of the ancient cartoon with its graphics and music, and it has the typical spit-shine polish that Taito was known for in turning out quality games time and time again.
It even nails Betty and Wilma's roles perfectly - just like in the old cartoon, they're reduced to little more than nags that just want to spoil the fun. Oh, feminism, you still can't touch the Japanese interpretation of old American media, can you?

A better question is, how many of us imagined Fred and Barney's voices in the dialogue parts? I know I did.
The game features the voice talents of Jeff Bergman as Fred Flintstone, Frank Welker as Barney Rubble and Bamm-Bamm Rubble, Tress MacNeille as Wilma Flintstone, Jodi Benson as Betty Rubble and Russi Taylor as Pebbles Flintstone. In the 1960s, the voice of Fred Flintstone was provided by the late Alan Reed, the voice of Barney Rubble was provided by the late Mel Blanc (with the late Daws Butler providing the voice of Barney Rubble for a few Season 2 episodes while Blanc was recovering from a near-fatal auto accident), the voice of Wilma Flintstone was provided by the late Jean VanDerPyl and the voice of Betty Rubble was provided by the late Bea Benaderet from 1960-64 and Gerry Johnson from 1964-66, and in the 1970s and the 1980s, the late Henry Corden took over as the voice of Fred Flintstone.

I had this. It's funny watching it, it's all in my head, buried deep, not really thought of for the past 24 years. I remember drawing the passwords for the to be continued and trying to decipher what I drew. Good times.

it is. almost evenly as a psx 32bit machine. Snes was quite strong

I don't know why, but for the longest time I had it in my head that there were 12 stages. I got up to CaveRock as a kid and had to return the game to the store. Then my mother sold my SNES and games so we could get an N64 instead.
You're telling me that 21 years later, after being reminded this game exists, I was *this* close to finishing it and I never knew?
So this is the last level then without having to face a boss, completed this game so many times but just can't remember some of it.

It's a very enjoyable and well-made game. Looks great, sounds great, very polished. A bit on the easy side but it was meant for children - doesn't make it less fun but I wish the game didn't give out extra lives like candy XD
compared to most licensed platformers with outrageous premises, this one can actually hold it's own! It's short, simple, and to the point: the grand poobah is retiring, so it's up to either Fred or Barney to get the treasure of sierra madrock, as instructed by the Grand Dad himself!
god damnit this game is good. I loved playing it as a kid, was hard af tho. remember never "beating it" and always restarting.

This is a pretty quality platformer that sits comfortably alongside Taito's other excellent 16-bit titles - and thankfully doesn't at all resemble the Ocean Flintstones movie game.
+NintendoComplete i have a quick question i notice this flintstones game has a 2-player mode does the game has two-player co-op or isit more like super mario bros 1 nes which player 1 goes first and player 2 goes second

Gazooo29 Nah, hardly ever did you get speech in full sentences on the SNES. Those cartridges didn't hold much data at all. The only game off the top of my head that I remember having any major lengthy voice acting was Star Ocean. The intro was super impressive on that game

Is it just me or do the levels seem extremely short compared to the Sega Genesis version? I assume they're supposed to be the same game, level-wise. There are many shared elements.
Yup, that's true, but the game itself is at least twice as long, even if you take the cutscenes out of the equation...
The Japanese beat us slim to none on the technology scale sorry to say but I still love them📿❤I even have a Nissan Frontier 4×4 myself 😊😁
They have America and World War 2 to thank for much of that.
