    Thank you for the video, I just did the same job, same car and couldn't have done it with out this video. It was a nightmare job because the manufacturer put the pump and screws in very difficult places to reach. Thanks for the zip-tie idea too! (the hardest part of the job is lining up the new pump and getting the screws into the threads)

      Thats a very good question. On parts like these I like to have a good visual understanding of the lines etc. For instance the high pressure line , which is the metal line that bolts down is the most likely culprit. The rubber hose line is the fill line and not under pressure. The rubber hose could be remedied by putting a hose clamp the screw down type. The high pressure line would need replaced . Now I have heard of the high pressure leaking I do not see how really because the bolt uses copper washers to fasten it and they are usually pretty reliable . So i guess the line itself could be leaking . I would more suspect the pump seal itself and would try to inspect from the fender well and also using a phone recorder etc from the top to inspect it without removing it. Most of the time the rack and pinion is leaking , but anwhere on the hoses linking the pump the cooler and the rack can be a leak . In this particular case the pump had failed due to the rack and pinion leaking excessively and burning the pump out. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.
      Heres a link to the rack and pinion if youd like to check that out .

    This video is awesome. Couldnt have done this without you. Have a problem though. I watched closely on how to hook up geounds and checked them but, my car is NOT equipped with autostart. But when i hooked everything up then put on neg cable the light's quickly flashed and the vehicle turned on with no key in column! Runs ten seconds and turns off, waits ten secomds and then runs for amother 10 secs. If you put a key in or hit brake, it shuts off. So confused. But you cant start it with key.

      I agree with you 💯. Subaru seems to be the only car company that builds cars for the owner to be able to work on it. My 1966 Ford bronco was the only ford easy to work on. The government should have let the American car companies fail instead of using tax dollars to bail them out.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I only snugged it up , but I would think no more than 35 ft lbs if you can get to it. The main thing is to not overtighten and ruin the bolt. You may try a new washer or even a banjo washer with rubber seals , I have had to go this route on banjo bolts on transmission lines that refused to stop leaking. Hope this helps.

      @@s33therfan sorry, i worded that badly. i was referring to the low pressure hose supplying the p/s pump with fluid from the reservoir. turned out my issue was a small o ring on the inside that deteriorated and was sucking air into the pump when it was operating and leaking fluid on the ground when it wasn't. also i couldn't have even dreamed about doing the water pump r&r without your video on it. from the bottom of my heart (and wallet) thank you for all your guidance

    The bolt on the top left of mine is slightly rounded. Enough to where I can't get a socket to catch and hold. My last ditch effort is get a 10mm wrench, which seems to missing from my set, and attempt to do it that way. Any tricks you can offer so I don't have to take the engine out to cut the bolt off?

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember if there is room , but I am thinking a hammer and narrow chisel/center punch. Hit it on the outer edge trying to make it rotate. If that fails , I would cut , grind or remove by any means necessary the bolt head. Depending on my mood I might take the pump apart in pieces. I will say this , any time it actually mattered for me the rounded head sockets let me down. Anyways this kind of stuff happens with bolts being overly tight, all you can do is clear room to work if possible. I have cut off bolt heads with limited room and a hack saw blade itself. Was not fun. Wish I could be more help and thanks for your feedback.

    • @timandjessica4204
      @timandjessica4204 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@s33therfan Actually got it off that day. Bought a 10mm wrench, since it was the only one missing from the set, and had to bend it at a 45° angle so I could turn it once I got it on the bolt. Now I'm having issues with my engine. I've got the car back together, but it won't start without sputtering out and dying.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If its hard to steer and not low on fluid its going to be your pump. There could also be some secondary issues leaks etc that caused it to fail or it could have just failed. The rack and pinion is bad to leak inside the boots and you can't tell unless pulling one off. There could be a leak on a line. If no leaks then replacing the pump should fix the issue . Auto zone did have a nice loaner tool that had jaws with special teeth to grip the pulley. If my memory serves me correct this edge doesn't have the typical pulley that uses split collar type pulley remover. Either way the access would be near impossible on the vehicle. If it were me I would replace it with a good low miled used pump and call it a day. But its up to you replacing the pulley works also. I know ebay has pumps with 70k for the price of a pulley. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    I work on this stuff everyday. Ford seems to make you go the extra mile. To say the least.

    What’s a ballpark fair price for this repair sir

      I have not priced it but I would think around 200 for labor. You may be able to save some money by providing your own parts. I know the parts store pumps are around $100 and up. So 300 to 400 total I would think. Thanks for watching

    Only a college educated engineer would design it with no belt tensioner and have you stretch the belt, walking it over the pulleys, possibly breaking the cords in the belt. Morons

      I had corrected myself in the video as there is only one bolt on the top and 2 on the bottom. The top bolt is directly behind where the high pressure line bolts down. Just follow from the high pressure port back just a little and you should be able to find it . Its almost impossible to see anything back in there and you have to rely on feel. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    A very nasty job, not an appealing one for the average DIYer, especially in +100*F climate.. thanks for giving us a good idea

    This type of engineering is why i hate Ford products. So much work to repair something thats such a common failure point. Why in the actual f*ck would they not put in bullet proof, long lasting parts in that inaccessible location!? I guess its the corporate bean counters fault.

      If you don't like these , I am pretty sure you would hate the new Ford Escapes. Take a look under the hood of one , if you get a chance. I appreciate the feedback and thank you for watching.
