    Quick suggestion….. you always start in the yard. We sometimes gather cars at the industrial area then go to yard and pick up and swap cars. Then head back to industrial area and switch them out. Kinda like a local train

    Hi Rick great model railroad. I think you need to do some track work. Put a side track in. Good place to drop cars and keep the main open to freight traffic passing.

    I agree with Double diamond RR. Maybe shove the outgoing cars back to where you picked up the inbound traffic. Either way it's you railroad. just have fun!!

    You probably should've dropped those cars off at the Dead end and grabbed your pick-ups. You eventually would have had to pick the Dead ends up eventually but you could have saved that for another video. Anyway, you kept it interesting as usual. Great job.

    No pun intended?! Ooooh, yes you did!
    But that's okey dokey!
    I've redone my lift up section using yours as an example. Works pretty good!

    I’m digging your “hauler” dropping off cars around the layout for the various “local” industry switcher jobs. Thanks for the good idea!

    Hi Rick. Great video. As I recall that area just under the overpass was the West Anaheim Yard and that’s where the GP15 got tagged up and graffiti by the local tagger crews.
    It’s a good place to stage to that locomotive to be used for switching over there.
    Better keep an eye on Torres though.
    Have a great weekend!
    Love your videos!!

    I was thinking could a tank car full of laquer to finish surf boards be used at Jack's Surfing Outlet?

    • @mikedurhan9941
      @mikedurhan9941 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Likewise, could a tank car full of liquor to finish off surfers be used at Jack's Surfing Outlet?

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Realistically, that would be delivered in drums in a box car (or on a truck). About 400,000 surfboards are sold in the US each year, which is about 2,200 tons of surfboards. I don't know what fraction of a surfboard's weight is lacquer but it's probably less than 1/22, which means that a single tank car of lacquer would be enough to manufacture every surfboard sold in the USA in a year. Far, far more than one company would need.

    I think you need a caboose for your backing moves for that GP15.

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or drop the cars the other side of the switch so they're pulled towards HB -- there's a runaround there, after all.

  • @PaulFotschky
    @PaulFotschky ปีที่แล้ว

    Option #50 drop pulled cars in front of T&M run engine around to back. When next train returns it cuts off engine before the switch, you back your cars down to the main on the front of the new arrivals. Go back into your section. Local backs up to connect,pulls forward so end of that train is left of switch as in the first run. You know what to do from there. You may want to use that main before your next loads come in.

    Another change up...running your local (and hauler?) in the opposite direction out of the yard. Different points for drop-offs, might be a nice change. Also, nice idea adding another switcher for the HB industries. I run two locos on my L shaped 9'x7' 16" shelf layout.

    • @socalscalemodels
      @socalscalemodels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 ปีที่แล้ว

      One advantage of running the local/hauler in the opposite direction is that it could drop off some of its cars for HB and continue around to staging with the rest.

  • @bobainsworth5057
    @bobainsworth5057 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, how about this, push cars from yard to underpass, Drop them off. GO15 picks them up and puts them in Industries. Or pull "outs" first . Use them to pickup "in" cars . Put them in Industries. Then shove empties under overpass. Then yard engine picks them up and classifies them. Train takes cars to staging . Replace and bring back for classifying.

    If you ran the Hauler Clockwise out of Yard, you could have left the cars under the Bridge on the Curve. Off the Mainline. Then when hauler comes he can do his Pickups and setouts on your Spur curve under the bridge, then proceed on down the line.

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think it makes more sense to leave the cars on the curve. Leaving them on the mainline in a place with no runaround means that the only way to pick them up is to send out a locomotive light-engine, which can't do anything else apart from getting those cars.

    Loved the switching video and keeps interest on a small layout. Love seeing the loco switch out cars. Question, what did u use and how did you make the barbed wire on your industry . Keep up the great work

      jewelry wire from a craft store. just twist it on a pencil.

    Hey Rick
    Got an idea for you. Put a police officer over there under the overpass giving the local undesirable characters a hard time
    Make it look like the UP police are cracking down

    What were the names of the two books you recommended about layout design and operations?

    • @socalscalemodels

    Then if you have someone over ,he can go the other way and work other side of layout at the same time.
