I didn't like the novel as a teenager and nor the movie. No matter how one looks at it but don't glorify and add meaning to rape. The reason I watched now is only for Vanisri garu.
Yes, but here the point is heroine doesn't beg hero to marry after rape. Even if hero is good in other times, rape is enough to hate him. In many other movies, we see heroines begging rapists to marry them. Maybe the author wanted to show that woman doesn't want to marry a rapist in real life (of course, at the end heroine forgave hero). The author's other novels Amara Hrudayam, Girija Kalyanam (it was done as a movie too), I desam maakemichindi are better in content wise. Did you read them as well?

Because it's totally unacceptable to condone rape. Rape is the worst kind of man on a woman crime. The idea to compel woman to like and even marry the guy that raped her even more inhuman. It's not a question of undeartanding - you don't like a movie just for the stars (though I watched it for Vanisri garu and hoped they modify the story slightly to show the hero more like real man; ended up presenting the villain in hero's cloak). Totally uncilized behavior.
