I think you are inserting the bolt/tap from wrong side. The other side of hole has better looking thread, you should have inserted from there to get better alignment and avoid risk of chewing the thread.
Lmao! Yep, I tried using a hardened nut to rethread the left side crank threads on a CR250. Boy, did that not work! Instead of two fucked threads I fucked up two more! This was before I ever saw this video, so nobody’s fault but mine. Chasing threads works sometimes, but other times rethreading is the best way to go. I ending up ordering a Steelman split die thread chaser, which is essentially a die, but allows you to clamp over good threads, and establish a true rethreading with no possibility of cross threading. Cost me $25, but damn sure worth it.
Nice video, if you have the time take your grade 8 bolt and grind a 1/8" slot (maybe 2) in the in the bolt threads. It should do the same thing as a tape. You need a place for the chips to go so they don't mess up the threads in the casting.
Using a tap to create new bigger bolt threads, who did not know about that. Helicoil is a better solution though, more solid than the original threads.
I've ran into this problem with hot water heater but the biggest tap they make is too small even though they both say they are same size help me i don't do this particular job
yea.. my mom took her car somewhere cause it was leaking oil wherever she parked, so they wanted to replace the oil pan because the drain plug threads were stripped. problem is they wanted 500 bucks! so your little lesson saved her a lot of dough. thanx.
Would it be better to take the motor off the board and screw in from the other side. That way you would do away with the risk of starting a thread that didn't line up with the original one. I appreciate your video.
don't forget some kind of anti seize when you install the new bolts. dissimilar metals and salt water is no bueno, even just the salty air here in flarduh can cause a mess of headaches... wonder how that ol'boat would haul with twins...
Always cut relief slots on the bolt so that the shavings have a place to go, it cuts the threads really smooth. You're just smashing the shavings down. lol. I'm surprised you didn't booger it up even more. But hey, if it works it works. ;-)
I tell ya what, you just saved me hours worth of work because now I don't need to drill out the bolt housing and insert a Healy coil. It was just the first few threads and your trick is working! Thanks man!
You could of just taken a dremel tool with a cut off wheel. Cut across the threads from the start of the threads toward bolt head and cut down till you see no more threads. Cut about 3/4" up and do this on 3 or 4 sides of the bolt. Now you have created your own tap.
When I saw you starting with the bolt, I was screening at the screen; use the tap it works and will save you the hassle. But still enjoyed you figuring that out for yourself. If I could, I would have saved you the hassle. Keep up the good work. You're a good dude.
Hey man, just wanted to thank you for the helpful video. I was putting our aluminum patio furniture together for the summer and one of the holes in a chair had a couple of bent threads. Like an idiot I tried to straighten it with the aluminum bolt and twisted the head off. Thank God for ViseGrips! Went to Home Depot and picked up a couple of matching stainless steel bolts. I'd use one a few turns until it got warm then I'd swap it for another. After about 20 minutes it was good as new. We've got 6 chairs again! Thanks again and have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Emanuel Braga I have an Ifor Williams trailer with I think M12 threads that the old bolts snapped off inside the hub causing the wheel to fall off. I will give this a go and let you know how it goes. thanks so far
Lola Lilly I got very lucky, I used a step higher bolt, did one complete and half turn. Took the bolt out, and then used the old bolt and it worked out fine. Talk about Luck! Thanks for this video!
I like you. Iam going to subscribe 61 year old woman that insists on fixing things like all my 2 and 4 stroke yard stuff. I don't know why I just have to prevail over stuff rather than get help but I have always been that way. Off to buy a tap set.
I also get really sad when I don't have someone blows my trust working on my stuff like my truck. I will take it to someone else and have them do it over again and return the parts to the guy who messed up installing them. I know that wastes money but it is my way of saying F#@! you.
Starter bolt hole stripped on my ‘95 Chevy diesel.. think I could use the home made tap method? Also, should I go a size bigger?? The bolt feeds in but when you start getting it tight, it pops and is loose again.. hole was drilled out and tapped before because the previous owner had a starter bolt break off in the block
This worked for me, steel, on steel. I thought the whole thread was totally fucked but the original bolt and some patience worked it's way through it and now it's good as new. Thanks man!
Excellent video. How do you determine if the bolt or the nut is the problem? I have an old car that has a threaded steering shaft end that I cannot get the hex nut screwed onto. Both seem to the naked eye to have intact threads. Also, how do you determine the size? I get it with your bolt demo but how would I measure the end of my steering shaft? Thanks for any help you can offer.
“In about 5 hours” Hahahaha
hahahah Thanks for watching
Why don't you put the bolt through from the side with the GOOD threads?
“How to fix a striped butt hole”
Me: aight bet
At 3:30 I was yelling "just use a tap!".
at 5:08 - LOL!
Nick Case 7
cut slots in the bolt next time. it will help clear the metal away and its pretty much a tap with a bolt head on it.
Hey man your funny. When you decided to use the tap after using the screw just killed me with laughter
cut (several and large) relief flues in the bolt it'll function 1000% better.
You sir... Are the only person on Earth, who now has a bolt hole that will accept both corse and fine threaded bolts at the same time.
Good video
I think you are inserting the bolt/tap from wrong side. The other side of hole has better looking thread, you should have inserted from there to get better alignment and avoid risk of chewing the thread.
You just saved me! I’m putting together a chair. I was about to throw it on the yard and set it on fire I was so pissed off. IT WORKED!!! THANK YOU
Lmao! Yep, I tried using a hardened nut to rethread the left side crank threads on a CR250. Boy, did that not work! Instead of two fucked threads I fucked up two more!

Funniest thing I've seen on You Tube in a long time. Plus I learned something. Thanks for the laugh and the information.
Didnt know what a tap was. Hopefully it helps with the problem. I dont have 5 hrs to spend on fixing the car. Thanks for the advice.
LOL!! Bust your ass and knuckles for a couple hours to end up using the RIGHT TOOL! Gee-Zus!
Nice video, if you have the time take your grade 8 bolt and grind a 1/8" slot (maybe 2) in the in the bolt threads. It should do the same thing as a tape. You need a place for the chips to go so they don't mess up the threads in the casting.
Check out the Mandela effect on youtube!! You will be astonished!!
THIS FUCKING WORKED THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Good info. I have a bike peddle that won't screw in but will go in from teh back side. So I'll get a bolt and try in from the back
Using a tap to create new bigger bolt threads, who did not know about that. Helicoil is a better solution though, more solid than the original threads.
5:08 FOR THE BEST LAUGH EVER!!!
KINGBOSS08 lol that shit was funny how it jumped to him just saying that. lol
ROFL
I fucking dieeeeeddd ...lmaooo
I damn near fell out of my chair 🤣🤣
😂😂😂
I've ran into this problem with hot water heater but the biggest tap they make is too small even though they both say they are same size help me i don't do this particular job
Send over that trustworthy mechanic my way. I have nothing but license to steal mechanics near me
I rented a tap and die kit from Autozone for free!! Great deal! $95 deposit, which is refunded entirely when you return it.
yea.. my mom took her car somewhere cause it was leaking oil wherever she parked, so they wanted to replace the oil pan because the drain plug threads were stripped. problem is they wanted 500 bucks! so your little lesson saved her a lot of dough. thanx.
+tornado 2000 ft.worthaintnof.f. Awesome
Wow, 500 bux for an oil pan? No wonder most people trust mechanics as much as lawyers.
What am I listening too. I thought it was a stripped bolt. Not a day in the life.
I’m only commenting because I thought the title first said, “How To Fix A Stripped Butt Hole” LOL!!!!
I must be tired!
when i sirst posted this video it was valled , how to fix a strippers Bolt hole
Man.... I just laughed out loud when you ended up using the tap....that was really funny. Thanks man.
Thanks for watching
Same here hahaha, made my morning!!
I have this problem with a table im putting together so i hope this works
Would it be better to take the motor off the board and screw in from the other side. That way you would do away with the risk of starting a thread that didn't line up with the original one. I appreciate your video.
yes but difficult to work it from the inside
don't forget some kind of anti seize when you install the new bolts. dissimilar metals and salt water is no bueno, even just the salty air here in flarduh can cause a mess of headaches... wonder how that ol'boat would haul with twins...
+Doc Ink i think it probably sink with that much weight on there ,.lol
This video is too funny. I was convinced this bolt was going to work cutting new threads and i was going to save some money. Nope. Just buy the tap!
Next time cut 3 grooves in the bolt thread for cleaning/cutting the threads up.
Good tip!
How do you know which size bolt is correct
Where is your shirt
Well this guy rambles.
if you take a wire brush down in there and then back it out it will run a lot of that mess out of there
DO YOU LIKE THE BLACKS?
Save time and money use the tap
If the thread is really gone you can all so replace thread with a hella-coil or tap it larger diameter.
$16 Is worth the hard workb
Always cut relief slots on the bolt so that the shavings have a place to go, it cuts the threads really smooth. You're just smashing the shavings down. lol. I'm surprised you didn't booger it up even more. But hey, if it works it works. ;-)
Just what I needed, and made me smile to boot.
what arm muscles? All I see is fat
I tell ya what, you just saved me hours worth of work because now I don't need to drill out the bolt housing and insert a Healy coil. It was just the first few threads and your trick is working! Thanks man!
I will probably need a tap for my lawn mower as i believe i may have stripped the threads on one of the holes the air filter & carb.
Lol...... goes and gets the tap anyways. The first method worked for me.
Imma give it a try
Very useful! I was looking for something like this to fix a stripped air port on a paintball gun. Thanks!
my new power steering rack i cross threaded and im not happy. I need to take my power steering rack out and fix it
should be ease once its out of the car, most are aluminum
“Clean all that shit off’a there... .” My daily motto.
hahahaha
You could of just taken a dremel tool with a cut off wheel. Cut across the threads from the start of the threads toward bolt head and cut down till you see no more threads. Cut about 3/4" up and do this on 3 or 4 sides of the bolt. Now you have created your own tap.
File two or three grooves in your bolt and it will act like a tap, self-cleaning.
steve oldre Darn beat me to it.
Interesting
I'll remember that
If you must use the bolt, make a thread chaser, get a spare bolt and make 3 cuts in it opposite the direction the threads are going.
Should have cut grooves in that bolt so the shavings had a channels to escape from instead of constantly being ground between the bolt and mount.
HAHAHAHA the ending was great! Cheers mate.
When I saw you starting with the bolt, I was screening at the screen; use the tap it works and will save you the hassle. But still enjoyed you figuring that out for yourself. If I could, I would have saved you the hassle. Keep up the good work. You're a good dude.
+Buukowski Thank you .
I knew that bolt wouldn't work! 🤣 Funny video though 👍🏾👊🏾
Tq much bro,
It's help me to fix my mirror thread problem 🥰🥰
After 2mnths I got two mirrors on my bike 😍😍
Tq so much
HAD TO RE READ THE TITLE....THAT IT SAID SOMETHIN ELSE. LOL
Don Merimon lololol
And so the title is WRONG...bolt hole was NOT stripped at all. Just needed cleaning. Geez.
It works perfect for me use WD-40 back and forth, took it out clean it with WD-40 resprayed, it didn't take long worked perfect!!!
The right tool for the right job..... You will use that tap again sometime.....

Awesome ! Cheers & Chairs
Are you a profetional model? Because you're certainly not an Engineer
The bolt would have probably worked if he cut relief channels in it. But yeah... use the tap.
With a Hack Saw cut a Notch the length of the your bolt down into the threads to make your own poor boys Tap. It will speed up things.
Man what happened you're only 4 hours into the bolt thing, give it a change before moving to what should have been my 1st choice.
THE TAP. The end
Have a similar problem. I think the bolt is a M12 do I go a bolt bigger like M13? Thanks!!
if the hole is stripped then get a tap & fix the threads. if they are too bad then you'll want to tap it 1 size bigger then go with a bigger bolt
Emanuel Braga
Cleaning the threads with a fresh bolt should be done from the side with the best thread which, in this case, is from the back, not the front.
hey don't cry now im sure your mechanic loves you too
My carb wont seal because one bolt hole is stripped fml
I like you. Iam going to subscribe 61 year old woman that insists on fixing things like all my 2 and 4 stroke yard stuff. I don't know why I just have to prevail over stuff rather than get help but I have always been that way. Off to buy a tap set.

i recently did this and used gear oil it help alot
+ranchero302me oh man that 90 weight oil stinks
what do i do if the bolt hole threads are so stripped the hole is slightly bigger now it wont screw in
you get the next size bigger tap & a larger bolt.
Also y not of just put the tap back in the box n say it was the wrong size
Starter bolt hole stripped on my ‘95 Chevy diesel.. think I could use the home made tap method? Also, should I go a size bigger?? The bolt feeds in but when you start getting it tight, it pops and is loose again.. hole was drilled out and tapped before because the previous owner had a starter bolt break off in the block
is the block Aluminum or iron?
This worked for me, steel, on steel. I thought the whole thread was totally fucked but the original bolt and some patience worked it's way through it and now it's good as new. Thanks man!
