Moonface - "Minotaur Forgiving Knossos" off of 'This One’s For The Dancer & This One’s For The Dancer’s Bouquet,' out Oct 4, 2018 on Jagjaguwar Buy / stream: moonface.ffm.t...
I have accepted it I'm disconnected I am a monster in a maze and in a way I’ll live forever I have accepted it I am connected My ugly head is like a mushroom on a tree of knotted muscle I have accepted it I am two halves and two hearts One was on a hook while the other one just watched And then they named me They called me Asterion But they were fools for naming me anything at all I have accepted it I'm disconnected I am the body that you bury in the ground I have accepted it I am connected I am alive in the ground like a bug You'll never know me None of you will ever see my face No matter how much we long to face the unknown And that’s okay Yeah, that's okay I have taught myself to dance alone I hear your parties and your music in the evening I hear your laughter and your singing creeping over the walls So I taught myself to dance alone I am the star of these infinite halls I am the owner of my lone owl feather And that is all And while I know I'm not the brightest fire I'll never really understand why You never sing any songs for me You never bang on the door There once was two different kinds of shadow Dancing in a trance by the sea And one was in disguise Disguised as the other They were attempting some kind of harmony I was born into this We were all born You were born like a pearl We were all born We were all born We were all born From wall to wall, I am the star of these infinite halls And while I know I'm not the brightest fire I'll never really understand why You never sing any songs for me You never sing any songs for me And while I know I'm not your only monster I'll never really understand why You never sing any songs about me You never sing any songs about me You never sing any songs about me You never sing any songs about me You never sing any songs about me You never bang on the door I have accepted it And I forgive you I am this monster in this maze and in a way I’ll live forever You’ll never know me None of you will ever see my face No matter how much we long to face the unknown And that's okay Yeah, that’s okay We were all born We were all born You were born like a pearl We were all born
I thought he was saying "They named me, they called me a scary old myth" and not "They named me, they called me Asterion" but this is right. >>> In Crete, the Minotaur was known by the name Asterion, a name shared with Minos' foster-father.
I can't adequately articulate why but I love these lyrics transposed with a bunch of individual animals acting out a natural beautiful mysterious group behavior.
Amazing how the lyrics are about a mythological creature that lived centuries ago, yet today, they're more relevant than ever. Thank you, Spencer Krug. "You never sing any songs about me"
I didn't like this at first, and was very apprehensive to hear his voice like that. But goddamn did it grow on me (like a mushroom) once the bass and melodies kicked in. I have accepted it.
Fyi it's been recorded twice in pretty high quality, once in Copenhagen and once on a solo piano live stream he did where he transitions it into Running in Place with Everyone
when i first heard Wolf Parade i was much more attached to and affected by Krug’s songs; not to say that Boeckner can’t write a great song, cause he can! But i didn’t really hear about his moonface stuff until Vibraphone came out, and i was really impressed by the depth of that album, especially Whale Song. the album that really got me was Julia with blue jeans on. that’s still in my top ten albums. this album took a little longer to get attached to, and i think it’s because of the use of steel drums and autotune that i didn’t quite understand right away. but after realizing the background for the Minotaur series, i started really appreciating it. this song specifically moved me very deeply. i think we have all been the minotaur at some point in our lives, and this song really speaks to the desperation and despair that can be overcome if we seek to forgive and accept our life as it is. love you Spencer
I have accepted it
I'm disconnected
I am a monster in a maze and in a way I’ll live forever
I have accepted it
I am connected
My ugly head is like a mushroom on a tree of knotted muscle
I have accepted it
I am two halves and two hearts
One was on a hook while the other one just watched
And then they named me
They called me Asterion
But they were fools for naming me anything at all
I have accepted it
I'm disconnected
I am the body that you bury in the ground
I have accepted it
I am connected
I am alive in the ground like a bug
You'll never know me
None of you will ever see my face
No matter how much we long to face the unknown
And that’s okay
Yeah, that's okay
I have taught myself to dance alone
I hear your parties and your music in the evening
I hear your laughter and your singing creeping over the walls
So I taught myself to dance alone
I am the star of these infinite halls
I am the owner of my lone owl feather
And that is all
And while I know I'm not the brightest fire
I'll never really understand why
You never sing any songs for me
You never bang on the door
There once was two different kinds of shadow
Dancing in a trance by the sea
And one was in disguise
Disguised as the other
They were attempting some kind of harmony
I was born into this
We were all born
You were born like a pearl
We were all born
We were all born
We were all born
From wall to wall, I am the star of these infinite halls
And while I know I'm not the brightest fire
I'll never really understand why
You never sing any songs for me
You never sing any songs for me
And while I know I'm not your only monster
I'll never really understand why
You never sing any songs about me
You never sing any songs about me
You never sing any songs about me
You never sing any songs about me
You never sing any songs about me
You never bang on the door
I have accepted it
And I forgive you
I am this monster in this maze and in a way I’ll live forever
You’ll never know me
None of you will ever see my face
No matter how much we long to face the unknown
And that's okay
Yeah, that’s okay
We were all born
We were all born
You were born like a pearl
We were all born
I am this monster in this maze and in this way I’ll live forever*

"You never sing any songs about me"
I've lost track how many times in a row I've listened to this.
Yeah I know exactly what you mean. There's no point in not listening to it, it's playing in my head anyway.
The guy is a genius.
No joke. I've been following Krug since 2003 and he's easily the brightest star of modern music.
I'm glad you are still putting things into the world.
Treat your monsters better everyone. They are half people too.
Only half?
