As so many of the artists who have been formative for the genre have performed live, and/or are performing live currently, I look to them to define what the *point* of vaporwave is! If you are interested, a good starting point would be to simply type "death's dynamic shroud live" into your TH-cam search bar and check out some of the results. It typically involves the use of samplers, and the playback of instruments in real time in front of an audience.
@@leonlaird_ James Ferraro, OPN, and Vektroid have all performed live, as well as many of the lesser cited foundational artists like 18 Carat Affair, INTERNET CLUB, Saint Pepsi, ESPRIT, telepath, dds, and many many more. Vaporwave means a lot of different things to different people. And while I'm only aware of one or two artists that actually consider their music to be critical of capitalism, I don't think live performance and critique are mutually exclusive. With the ElectroniCON event, we simply want to support these artists's desire to perform to a live audience and continue to let "vaporwave" evolve naturally and freely instead of existing as a "dead genre." I hope you'll consider supporting your favorite artists in the future if they have the privilege to visit your local music venue!

You are applying way too much dogmatic thinking towards an amorphous art movement that mostly started online and has no direct organization guiding its development or anything. In order to perpetuate itself, a genre *_must_* have a live component (especially when one lives in a society where you don’t eat or have a place to sleep unless you make money), unless it is literally stating, from the outset, in a rigid set of tenets that did not and has never existed for Vaporwave outside of cringe reddit posts made after the genre had already formed and typified some of its most distinguishable features and characteristics, that there is never to be a live aspect. And frankly, even if some sacred texts existed stating that rule, _there is no controlling what every single individual within a given music scene is going to do._ Not to mention that *_EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY MOVEMENT THAT HAS EVER SOUGHT TO BE CRITICAL OF CAPITALISM HAS A LIVE COMPONENT,_* lmao how do you think those kinds of activists expect to reach the common working person? They don’t play in clubs unless they’re free or cheap, they don’t play stadiums only rich kids can get into, they play demonstrations and marches and org meetings and community outreach and aid events.
I don’t mean to come off rude but this just really boggles my mind, I don’t get how you could realistically think this way about the subject. lol

And the critique that vaporwave presents is not, in my opinion, as frontal or straightforward as other genres that also perform live and online (even if it's, in my opinion, more accurate and precise)

I can't stop listening to this, I feel like you're pushing music to a new place and it's amazing, not entirely robotic, you can feel the human element but it's surrounded by this huge unknown sound and imperfections, you don't know what's coming next but it takes you to a new level

The CGI photography has a great cinematic flow of movement that I feel's been missing for the past 30 years. Well done getting that good 80s CG look down, especially the last section floating above the mountains and clouds.

dude ive been trying to find music similar to it and its so hard, some of m83's older stuff is somewhat similar (like "Gone" for example), but its not as pop-y as this is. its so frustrating that this is a one of a kind song. even the rest of this album has nothing like this
