I love Aen Art gel pens. The color and number is engraved on the barrel! Under $20 for a set of 120 and the refills are even cheaper. They just glide across the paper. They're just as great as more expensive brands! I'll be sticking with these!

FYI, I researched "dye ware" - it's for writing on fabric!! O.M.G. Fabric dye!!!
I love watching your quasi-scientific experiments and all your templates!
I like your time stamps, too -- it's been v. helpful as I'm comparison shopping.

Recently bought the Tanmit all glitter 160 (half refills) set and they have added comfort grip and canvas bag. The colors and glitter effect are gorgeous and smooth. It’s been about five years since I bought gel pens and I’m blown away at the new options.

I don't really color other stuff, but it's a big part of drawing. I'm in love with the Sakura Glaze pens right now. Not very many colors, but they're gorgeous and the textured ink is fun. You can practically see the ink level drop, though. They've been fun for cartoony stuff.

I am so excited to get my 100-pack of Tanmit gel pens, along with my two-pack of the Sakura Stardust Clear. So excited to start coloring with them. I love your channel, Facebook page, and your Website. I bought the $5.00 Colorist package. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration, Jennifer. My only qualm about the Sakura Stardust... they don't have enough colors. 13 IS NOT ENOUGH! Lavender and yellow (not just gold) would be really nice!!!

I wish I could find those pens for the price you have. The Amazon Germany which's the closest to where I live sells Tanmit for $75,45 and $92,25 for Reaeon 200 set. It's a huge difference in price. I must to find a coloring alternative since coloring with pencils has given me pain in my hand.

Hear, hear. For me this should be much more about pen performance and quality (i.e., smoothness, consistency, lack of "glopping", and so on)--- it's not important to me what the box is like, or how much each pen in a set ends up costing me.

Thank you for these recommendations. I bought my Tanmit set a year ago as well as other brands. When I'm coloring I like having a wide range of colors to work with. There's nothing worse than coloring a picture and wishing you had more colors to work with. Tanmit by far is my favorite to work with. I only wished Tanmit came with a dark red but aside from that I absolutely love this set. Before this video, I couldn't figure out what GN stood for on the Tanmit pens. So glad you said what it was. I knew the G stood for glitter but couldn't figure out what the N was. So thank you for clearing that up. Awesome informational video!

Not for nothing but the Aen Art are absolutely top notch. The pen types on each pen. The matching refills. It's so nice. There's a 100 all glitter box, a 100 mixed classic neon glitter and pastel box. There's a zip case set. And they NEVER skip for me. As of yet. I love them

I'm in your giveaway for your Aen Art gel pens. Being in Australia, the import fees and tax sadly take away the reality of a good deal. But I'm grateful that they ship to Australia at all. Storing my gel pens is a real struggle. Most of the pens I buy have a nice, soft fold out container. When I am coloring, I pick out 4-5 different colors I know I want to use and keep them in a cup next to my area so I’m not struggling with the fold out of all of my pens. I have found that I love using various different sizes of paint brushes for blending and I keep those in the cup as well. Using the neons have been so much more fun to use since I started using the brushes. I have never been a fan of these in the past so they didn’t get used and I felt I was waisting money. Now I have so much more fun using them. My favorite pens are; Raeaon, ( I really like these because I get a full set of the refills) Colorit , ( also with refills) and Aeon Art pens.

  • @winterrain1947

Okay, after having watched the entire video, I have some comments. First thank you for your videos. Always something new to learn even if it's about a product type that I don't really use.
second, I want to share something with you and your viewers. I had the set of pens that came from Costco that you did a video on a while back. Gel writers. I liked those and I kept all the pen barrels, only threw out the ink cartridges. And glad I did keep those because I was able to refill them with the reaon ink cartridges.
Yeah. I have a set of Reaeon pens (Love those and I knew before I watched this video that if you had them in your collection, that they'd score very well.)
But I didn't like the barrel of the reaeon with no grip. First I tried to swap the grip off the gel writer and put it on the reaon pen, but that was so hard to get the grip off one pen and put it on another that it wasn't worth doing a second time. So, I tried to put the ink cartridge of the raeaon into the empty barrel of a gel writer pen. It worked! I had worried that the ink tube might not fit properly.
Also, I didn't want to lose the labelling of the pens and their refills. And found that (at least in my set.) the initial ink cartridge inside the pen barrel has no number on it. So, I stuck a tiny little paper inside the pen barrel with the label as I went along and refilled the pens. (doing that all at one time would have taken forever. I did this a few at a time as the Gel writer pens ran out.)
And I tried at first to stick a label on the outside of the pen barrel, but it wouldn't stay for long :(
So, that was a couple of years ago. I've bought different gel pen sets since then, but I still have all those Gel writer pen barrels. I discovered that not all refills will fit in any barrel. I have the Walmart brand Pen+Gear pen barrels (the ink is long gone for that set) The reaon ink tubes fit in those, but they are loose. It works, but since the cap doesn't close over the pen's nib, I'm afraid that ink would dry out. But no big deal for me because I use the ink very fast. The same reaon refills do not fit inside of the Cedar Marker gel pens. The refill is a little too long for the Cedar art pen barrel and the cap won't close.
Hope you and everyone else can make some use of all that. I mean it took a while to type so someone better find it at least interesting. :)

  • @emilyharrington2219

This is super interesting. And the information you’re giving is actually making me understand my own pen preferences. Within the set that I own I prefer the glitters and metallics rather than the classics. That’s probably because the classics dry faster so it’s a bit harder to color with them.

Thank you for your review. I just read it and ordered the Tanmit Gel Pens. They cost a little more but they come in a nice fold zipper pen holder. The pens now have a nice grip for holding the pen. The name and number of the pen is now on the pen body. The cap is the same color as the grip. Besides coming with a few pics to color; it also comes with a swatch chart. The Jelly Rolls are my favorite pens; I just wish that their glitter pens had more colors. Again thanx..

So I just bought the hobby lobby master's touch 100 gel pen set. (yes I know, bad store, but its my only local craft store XD) I noticed right away that they look exactly like the cheap sets you don't like. So I think they were also most likely produced in the same factory. The label cost is $40 (but with their 50% off sale they were $20, no refills.) So yeah, I should have watched this video first because man are they bad. But to be honest, I only planned on using them with my colored pencils to add highlights or to make metals shiny. So for those of you who want to try them out, I would say just go for the reaeon, aen art, or tanmit pens.

    Very nice. Thank you.
As someone who works with pro colorists, I find it a bit... Funny to call people who color colorist. But it is interesting.
No disrespect, it just caught me off guard.
I was like "if they are colorist, what do they need gel pens for?" lol
    Thank you
Edit: looking at an actual definition, I suppose anyone who adds color in a skillful way is a colorist, so you don't have to hate comment me. Sorry for my ignorance.

That’s great to know, thanks! I wondered but we didn’t have solid evidence like we did with the other sets.

I don't care if there is a color number or not. The only thing I care about that the pens don't skip and good ink flow. which one do you think are the best in that category because I want the Gell pen to show up on black color also. When I am trying to watch this review it seems as if the Reaeon gel pens are better than the Tanmit gel pens. Or pen are more pigmented which even show up great on black color paper also. I have bought Craft gear and CHROMATEK gel pens. Need your expert opinion, please can you reply to this question? Have you tried Fiskars and Chromatek gel pens (they are rated as the best 2021 artist gel pens) ?

Would you do another review on Shuttle Art? They changed and I want to know how much? When I got them from Hobby Lobby, nearly 5 were dry right away. The rest still roughly worked. The larger one (set) I bought off Amazon about 4 or 5 years ago.
All except work, except two pastel, silver, and one neon orange which is hit and miss. The three except silver only stopped or have to struggle to get a full stream since this year. The pen set was in extremely cold this past winter or extremely hot temperatures as I retrieved them from storage due to a move. I can't remember if I saw any graying this time in the very light pink and orangey pastel but not in the other colors for sure. 🤗❤️👍🏽💯

HAHA!! 6:49 I have those. When I first got them, I tried to work with the *bleeping bleep* trays. I was patient (for me) And after about 3 weeks, I got totally angered, threw a loud coniption fit, threw the trays at the wall and stuffed all the pens into ziplock bags according to color families. Dumbest thing ever, those trays.

thank you for pointing out that a "240 set is really a 129 set, which I think is a cheesy, tacky marketing ploy these companies all seem to use and I hope people aren't fooled by them

I appreciate your review of the gel pens. Your top two are ones I'll buy in the future. I love the Aen glitter gel pens. You had lots of good things to say about them, but I don't see them being all glitter as a reason to mark them lower on the chart. For those who want a large set with all glitter, it would be a plus. And like you say, it's wonderful to have so many colors.

Casey I agree...but for this particular test I was hoping to find a good “all around” set. The only reason I bought the Aen set was because so many people recommended it when I asked, so I knew there was something special worth exploring...they were right!!!

I just got the Reaeon gel pen and just glitter set!! Yes that’s 2 sets cuz I’m an idiot and I thought that the regular set didn’t have glitter in it! But I’m a very happy idiot!! This is my favorite gel pen sets and since they both have refills I’ll be set for life! Well maybe not for life but you know what I mean! I’m in love! I’ve had tanmit and caliart gel pens and they weren’t as good as the ones you showed but they must have upped their game!

I love that your husband gets into it to that's awsome I could tell he was excited to do it to and honestly that's part of the reason I'll be back to hear two opinions and not just a womans perspective cause I am one and need the means simplistic view sometimes and that's hilarious the dog dont like the sound you need to take a cute picture of the dog covering his ears or something and put it on a tshirt with some amazon packages and jell pens and say something cute on the back with your photo saying like " oops I did it again and your husband saying oh baby baby....it would be cute ( that was a britney spears song ) but that's a good marketing strategy that would be adorable funny cute and justbawsomw

This was a super helpful video. I love using gel pens to accent my colored pencil and alcohol marker pictures. I've tried to do some pics in just gel pens (i have a complete glitter set and a mixed set) but the ones labeled as "pastel" come out pretty fluorescent. My question is: Do you have a set you recommend (non metallic/non glitter/not mixed) in which the Pastels are LEGIT pastel and not "Neon"? I'm sure i'd have to get a mixed set with all of those additional in it, but the big thing is having ACTUAL pastel colors.
