- What I think are some inspirations behind Diamond Head's song "Am I Evil" from their 1980 album "Lightning To The Nations", ranging from the intro drums of The Eric Burdon Band's hard rock version of "Ring Of Fire", included in their 1974 album "Sun Secrets"; through the orchestral piece "Mars, The Bringer Of War", off the suite "The Planets", composed by Gustav Holst in 1918; to the distinctive riff, very similar to the one in "Symptom Of The Universe", from Black Sabbath's 1975 album "Sabotage"; to the solo which resembles Ritchie Blackmore's style, particularly, maybe, in Deep Purple's 1970 classic "Child In Time", from "Deep Purple In Rock".
Disclaimer: Actually, this is not the original 1980 version of "Am I Evil" - I had to put the 1982 re-recording from "Borrowed Time" due to copyright issues. It's a little bit lame, but it's the same lineup of the same band and mostly the same era.
All credits to them.
Very interesting, thanks!
The very first Metal song that uses the Tritone is Black Sabbath's self titled song. The Mars' tritone doesn't need a formula, it just works.
