I wish that instead of showing the lazy stereotype of struggling African Americans, this show had gone further to show some of the real elite African American families that existed at the time in New York. An example would be the Downing dynasty, which literally created the concept of Oyster fine downing houses in New York City and was fabulously wealthy and sponsored by the city's leading families and European royalty.

I mean, aren't Peggy's family shown to be quite wealthy?
Employing servants of their own and everything?

There are a lot of immigrant accents in the show among the servants.
For some reason the Nuveau Riche family employs from the midwest and the old money family has a lot of immigrants.
I guess it's just an excuse to explore midwest in one house, and immigrants in another.
