Great built Scott! I’ve never built any military models before but am tempted to start. Previously I’ve been building 1/24 car models and are just reentering this hobby again after a hiatus over a decade. I do have a question for you if you don’t mind, what’s the air pressure range for your compressor for painting this model? Range for covering the larger areas as well as range for the details. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Daniel! I also had a very long break in the hobby since I was a kid, and I come back to it and there are all these fancy air brushes and tools. So it has been fun trying to figure everything out. The general rule of thumb is as your needle size goes down, the paint needs to be thinner. And the thinner your paint gets, the air pressure goes down too. To narrow it down, in general I airbrush with a 0.4 mm nozzle/needle for the larger parts. For Tamiya paints I like to thin to about 50/50 with Mr Levelling Thinner (Laquer) or home made Isopropyl Alcohol thinner (See Barbatos Rex channel for how he makes the thinner, awesome channel) and spray about 20 psi. For Air Vajello paints I add a drop of flow improver and a drop of their thinner but have to spray more like 30 to 35 psi (again thanks Barbatos Rex) and it seems to work ok. But my favorite combo is Tamiya with the levelling thinner, it sprays really well every time. Only down side is the respirator and ventilated room is a must. If you don’t have a small spray booth yet, I would recommend the Isopropyl Alcohol thinner with Tamiya or using the Air Vajello. (Keep in mind the air pressures and thinning ratios are based on my setup, but they can at least be a starting point and you can adjust up and down from there). Practicing on plastic spoons can help you really see how the paint is laying down out of the air brush onto a smooth surface as opposed to a paper towel. Anyways, thanks for watching and I hope this helps, let me know how it goes!

Just noticed you asked about the details too….so for for fine work like preshading panel lines or adding shade variation, I switch the needle over to a 0.15 mm (The Harder and Steenbeck Infinity CR+ comes with both) and thin down more to something like a 30/70 paint/thinner ratio, and drop the psi down to 5 to 10 psi. With the 0.15 mm nozzle I almost exclusively use Mr Levelling thinner or Tamiya Laquer thinner so that tiny nozzle doesn’t clog. Still experimenting with this because I would love to be able to spray for longer with Air Vajello with the 0.15 mm and keep it from drying up too quick.

Thanks Scott for taking the time to reply to my questions! It is very much appreciated as it will help me in gaining a better understanding of painting military planes and airbrushing in general. Yes Rex’s channel is great! Has lots of good tips and tricks as well! Thank you very much and happy modeling!
