Nice to see someone from Chilton County. I graduated there. Followed, just bought a fiber laser and learning as much as I can.
Cool.. welcome aboard
Thank you for all the great info. I have been digging into making some acrylic signs for doors and maybe some cabinets. Just looking in to making some of my own stuff! New ideas are always good. Again thank you 😊
Go for it!
It's nice of you to give helpful and honest information. I probably won't make much money because for now it's a hobby but great ideas for gifts! Thank you!
Thanks, hobby is how I started..
Thanks for all the info. I'm so excited to receive my engraver.
They are fun,,,
Very helpful video. You answered many questions I have been having as well as gave me some new ideas for products. Thank you for sharing 🤗
Glad it helps, each market is slightly different. Good luck
Thanks for the shout out! Love being able to chat and share insights at our local events!!
Anytime, I am letting y’all have it tonight. My day off
Had a lot of similar items at our first vendor market. Flasks did not sell at all, but we did sell some small engraved shot glasses and the wooden bottle openers.
Sometimes, the crowd dictates. I usually sell a couple flasks at most events
I grew up in Perry County so I can understand you when you "tawk". lol Thanks for the good ideas and keep 'em coming!
Accent, what accent….lol
Thanks for this video. I live all the way in London, so I am not able to attend the event. I'll research whether there are similar events in the UK. Thanks for all your helpful tips. I have a Sculfun S9 laser, which was a gift for Christmas. I immediately noticed how slow it is. So, I'm saving up for a faster laser.
Upgrading is addictive…
good job i enjoy what you say and it dose make a lot of sense. On smalls
Even a quarter adds up… thanks
Enjoyed your video.. great sales approach. I do Farmers Markets down in the Panama City Beach area. I'm located close to you in Clay County Alabama.. Lineville. Been running a CNC for a year and have a laser coming this week. You're correct you have to have something that makes you unique in the market place.
Thanks, you have to find where you fit in the market and what is still fun. It makes work better when you enjoy it.
I have my first craft fair tomorrow, wish I’d watched this earlier today lol😂 I’ve had so much on this week, and a few commissions I didn’t have much time to stock up on much
Practice helps. My first year was full of hard lessons. Be nice and try to get folks to at least look…
Great stuff. :)
Glad you think so!
Love your videos! Thanks very informative. One question I don't see a video on your laser setup for shows, can you please share in a video. thanks again and best of luck!
It’s an older video from last year. I will do an updated one…
What machine are you taking to shows?
What power of engraver do you use on site at the events? I will be looking into an Omtech 100 watt engraver by the end of the year.
I run diodes. I carry a 20 watt with me
Do you have a video on creating the key chain jig from your Etsy store. I am very much of a beginner but would love to learn to create keychains for gifting
I have multiple videos on jig creation. Just search JIG in my videos.
Hey Clack, you think you could give us a tour of the mobile shack as far as how you got your exhaust and stuff set up? Im looking to build myself a mobile unit and any ideas will be greatly appreciated
Yea, gonna work on that…
your pen! great idea man! 😂❤
Thanks…
New to engraving. New hobbie Thanks for all the advice. Stay safe, my brother. Retired after 38 years.
2 years to go for me.. Have fun..
Do you use any kind of finish on the things you sell at these events?
Not the made on site stuff. The materials I use really don't require it.
Thanks for all the tips! Just wish I had some events to go to. Covid killed all my previous shows!😢
Maybe it will get better.
Great video! .. i have so many questions in my mind suddenly ... Could be ready to set something up like this for in a month ? I'd need to apply to my town fairs, make the jigs and tests each object to be sure about the setting and make some examples.. could probably buy and extra machine or two, with a possibility of sending them back before the first 30 days in case i didn't sell enough .. and more questions definitely, like about the air purifier etc .. I'd need a good 20 on the phone with you 😅.... But I'm also really needing to do something exactly like that, long story I'll spare you ...... .
I am gonna do a more thorough video of the setup later. I have an old video from last year. Search for portable clack shack
What laser do you take to the events and how do you power it?
My D1 20 watt and 10 watt as a backup. I use a WEN inverter generator and battery backup. th-cam.com/video/obI991-CEIM/w-d-xo.html
You can put on some of them have a blessed day
Thanks…
Good afternoon, I was wondering if you have made or going to make the trip to Canton, Ms for the Canton flea market?
No, never even heard of it. Sorry
@@TheClackShack it’s something worth checking into if you don’t mind driving 4 hours. I’m in Montgomery, Al till 24 of this month. I was going to try and come up there this past Saturday but had prior plans. Do enjoy your videos. I got into woodworking about 7 months ago and now looking at laser engravers.
I just stumbled on your channel. I'm looking into getting into laser engraving. What portable unit do you use for engraving?
Tyfs!
There are a few that I have for events. The Atomstack A24 and xtool F1 will be my machines this season.
Jason and Brooke talk about you on their channel, so here I am to subscribe
Thanks, they are good folks
Hi Clack, do you use an extension cord on-site? If so, do you find that you need to make any adjustments to the settings for cutting or engraving any materials?
I use an extension cord that is rated for the maximum output of my generator, I haven't had any need to make adjustments.
@@TheClackShack Makes sense. Thank you 🙏🏼
Hey man, I got the tool d1, love your jigs! I was having an issue getting the crosshair to turn on using the xtool software. Any suggestions?
Check your connections, there isn’t an off switch for it that I am aware of.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
@@TheClackShack you are welcome.
I recently bought your jig file. Works great!. What do you to keep the char from the birn marks on the sides of the items you cut from coming off on people's hands? Do you apply a seal on them, sand them, wipe them? Thanks!
My setup doesn’t create a lot of char. Wipe them with a piece of cloth.
@@TheClackShack so are you cutting on lower power and more passes?
What is the best type and power of laser YOU RECOMMEND for taking to a show?
There are many brands that work great. I usually use a 20 watt just because of the extra speed.
You should post a pic or video of you set up at an event. That would be very interesting.
I see you have the hip flasks! I have been trying to get the settings right on my 20w laser for those for weeks. What are your settings for a 20w diode laser? Also, do you try to just "burn" the leather and not get to the stainless underneath or do you try to burn it all off right down to the stainless?
I use the powder coated flasks. They burn like tumblers. I have tried the leather wrapped but didn’t like the results
@@TheClackShack Hhhhmmmmm .... what are your settings for those for a 20w laser? I may have to order new flasks lol.
@@btigenie maybe a burn test can help you better since materials may different so his setting may not be suitable for you. those matrix of different power and speed in little squares.
What Laser do you use at events
So far, my XTool D1 pro 20 watt with my 10 watt as a backup. That is what I had when I built the setup.
th-cam.com/video/obI991-CEIM/w-d-xo.html
I live in Ferryhill, County Durham two miles away is the village of Chilton but I can't come to see you which is a bummer. Thing is I live in England not the US.
That is a long way off... Maybe one day..lol
Wouldnt a fiber liser be perfedt for super fast engravings ?
It would if I had one… maybe soon
hi, love the pet tags, do you find they scratch easy or are they robust
They don’t scratch easily but with enough wear, Ian sure it would show.
Just wondering where you get your necklaces for the dog tags please?
They come with them when I order. Amazon
What kind of wood do you use on your cutouts and where do you get it. Big box stores are a hit and miss.
1/4 inch Luan, local lumber yard
Is it an issue to properly ventilate and protect the eyes of spectators at these shows?
Safety is a big concern. I take all necessary measures.
Would you share a link to your portable air purifier that you use at events? Thanks!
Video planned
Hi, is it possible to do multiple engraves of coasters using xtools D1 rather than one at a time?
Very possible, I built a system for that. Different machine but I make the system for many different ones.

I subscribed!
Thanks
Great ideas and tips. Take care of your back and say hi to MayMay for me when you go to the event.
It was fun
What battery backup do you use?
Video coming
You mentioned an air purifier. Which one do you use?
I have used the comgrow but just to reduce the smoke. I would not classify it as a purifier.
What lasers do you set up at the shows?
I have been using my xTool D1 pro, I am about to move over to the Atomstack A24 that I just enclosed.
The problem with you under pricing though, is that no one can compete at a level that sustains them. I make high end custom knives...they are valued at thousands of dollars each. "Forged in Fire" hobbyist makers have basically destroyed the entire market...because even though they aren't making anywhere near the same level of quality or performance, and even though those hobbyists spend similar time on their work, with similar materials costs...customers invariably think two knives are better than one lol. So the fact that they don't care how much they make has hurt the entire market for anyone doing it for a living. I've nearly pulled out of the custom knife market completely...with over 12yrs invested in it. It simply can't provide a living wage anymore.
Also, don't take this as any sort of negative commentary. I was just pointing out the financial aspect and ramifications when it comes to hobbyist pricing being different than professional pricing.
Great video though man, thank you for sharing.
I can see where folks might take it as negative but I promote my competition and send them jobs. I only sell locally and stay away from products that they sell. That’s why you never see me doing earrings and the painted items. It’s more of a symbiotic relationship with surrounding businesses. I advertise and promote them. I also offer home sawn cutting boards from my mill. Those items come in at a higher price point.
I do not consider it negative, the world is full of opinions and perspectives. I enjoy sharing both…. Thanks for watching.
@@TheClackShack absolutely. Thank you for sharing, I'm enjoying your content.
It is an interesting business problem. There has always been a finite market for really high end handmade custom items. Even the "maker" market feels the squeeze as the price and accessibility of cnc, laser and 3d printing comes to the masses. The people that are successful seem to stay one step ahead of the game in terms of uniqueness, innovation, getting in front of the right buyer, and developing multiple alternative revenue streams, with TH-cam, Patreon, affiliate relationships, merch, etc. The good news for artisans such as yourself is that your clientele is more likely to be inflation resistant. The trick may be getting more creative in finding and getting in front of those potential customers. I hope we do not lose craftspeople such as yourself. Best of luck to you.
Unfortunately non of the shows in Canada will allow a laser machine to operate on site due to safety and insurance issues
That’s no good.
Do you seal your wooden keychains?
Some, the ready made ones I do. Anything that I make on sight just stays wood. Less mess that way at events
@@TheClackShack what do you seal them with?
@@rebeccasaladino9466 clear spray lacquer would be the easiest and fastest drying
@@liquidrockaquatics3900 thanks. I think I have some already.
Where’s the best place to come up with ideas for the different quotes for the different items?
I use google as my inspiration. Make a few different ones and see what sells…
Has anyone ever told you that you are underpricing your items? 😂 It does make it easier when it’s more of a hobby than a primary job that needs to pay all the builds.
Yea, But it’s so much fun…. I do it for the love…
Can you sharevwhere you get your translucent neon motel key fobs? I keep finding vinyl ones.
Also, those people complaining about you talking in a video where your intent is to explain, I have to guess they are possibly younger and used to tik tok, getting news from soundbites, and possibly suffer a short attention spans. This has been a trend for years. People don't read in-depth articles (if they're even written), news shows go for sensationalism and fast, short coverage, TH-cam pushes Shorts, etc. Its a sad, worrying trend.
I cut them out from the material. I do not buy the motel keyring blanks. I use acrylic to do so. Thanks, I don't worry about the folks that don't like the content. Luckily, they have other options... Thanks
When talking on should be showing at the same time would be helpful
Maybe it would
Can i get involved please im in uk tho think ur american but im after apprenticeship
I have plenty of videos
Just found you, I'm in Elmore county. How do I contact you?
You can email or message my Facebook page if needed.
@@TheClackShack Thanks!!
Green screening!!!
Not sure I am following? What does a green screen have to do with the video?
Large pen is hard to handle.
If you say so
5.58 and still talking about nothing
Enjoy
you talk too much.
Your too critical of others… thanks
Seriously? Free information for starting a business.
Just a heads up… sometimes we cant see the forest for trees… thank you for the tutorials, amazing but just for us folks who are slow…please repeat how you get solid text and shapes.
I have lots of videos that show the processes. Keyword lightburn
