He was an underrated throughout his career, especially by the tabloids and haters. The fact that he's won FIFA, Ballon D'or, European footballer of the year runner ups twice, not to mention footballer of the year in UEFA once says a lot.

one of my all-time favorite players from the pool of "best underrated players" in the world. In those years there have been few Juve players that have been almost critical to the success of that club, and Nedved (along with Buffon, Cannavaro, and Del Piero) has been one of those players. Without any of these 4 legends in the team Juve would look crippled, without all 4 of them Juve looked like a Primavera team or something. Every big footballing club has a skeleton of 3-4 players upon which they build a competitive team and for Juve those 4 have been the skeleton.

He sold a lot of shirts to Asia. That's about it.
Oh yeah, and the small matter of scoring 85 goals and making 120 assists for them in 390 matches (thats one goal contribution every two matched FROM MIDFIELD). In fact he led the premier league in assists over the 8 seasons he played first team in United, and had the highest G+A contribution for any midfielder (even when you add forwards he was 4th highest, which is frankly insane). For comparison Ryan giggs (an undisputed United legend and playing on the other side of the field at the same time - has 168 goals and 259 assists in 963 games - basically twice the goals and assists at 2.5 times the games). Also contributed heavily in the most crunch matches especially during the treble run. He still has the highest number of freekick goals in the PL despite only 8 full seasons whereas many great players have played their entire careers in the Prem. He also worked his socks off in defence and transition- his average distance covered (14 kms) is higher than the highest distance covered in whole league last year (13.Xkm).
But yeah, if you think he was only important for selling T-shirts in Asia, that must be true
