- Both Boulder Dash and Wildcat got extensive trackwork in advance of Lake Compounce's 2024 season. After being closed in 2023, Wildcat returns with precut wood track from the Gravity Group. Boulder Dash got another section of GCI Titan Track added plus some small bits retracked with wood. This video talks about these changes, where they occurred, and when you can ride these two attractions.

Genuinely thrilled that a full-steel Boulder Dash no longer seems inevitable. Would have been a shame for it to lose some of the wooden bite on that outward leg specifically
Yeah they seem committed to putting more wood on it in the future.
Good to hear they're making improvements! I honestly expected a lot more Titan track on Boulder Dash so I'm happy to hear some trad wood retracking went on.
Yeah that e pay wood or whatever is really durable and it should run smooth. Also you are my favorite coaster youtuber right now, keep putting out unique content!
It was a nice to see more wood too.
You should do a comparison video of major retracking methods, like IPE, precut, topper, titan, and 208retrak. Maybe also compare the coasters that use these methods.
Possibly. There is a lot that goes into it beyond just the track type. Train and layout are important too.
Looks awesome, Canada's Wonderland should be planning some retracking/reprofiling of their wood coasters
I hope so!
Boulder Dash is still one of my top 3 coasters. I will never forget my 1st ride opening year, it was so surprisingly good I spent the rest of the day just getting back on and rode nothing else
I spend most of my time at the park lapping it.
That GG pre-cut track was literally steel coaster smooth on the first hill of the Voyage last year
Nice! Haven't ridden that one since 2021.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah I’m excited to try it on a more ‘dynamic’ part of the ride with all the 90 degree turns getting it apparently.
Seeing Titan Track is a positive for me because it shows that management really cares about the park's future. Wildcat Wolverine is getting some new tracking this season as well.
I'm glad they're working of them.
Thank the GODS that Gravity Group is saving Wildcat, also I haven't been to Phantom Fall Fest, how is it?
It's amazing for Boulder Dash night rides. And they had one really good haunt last year.
@@CanobieCoaster oh word? That’s awesome!
I agree about how this should be a first wood coaster. Cause I went on this with my friend and encouraged him to go on it (with the new track btw) and he loved it. And, it’s way more smooth now!
It is running great this year.
@@CanobieCoaster agreed. I love it now!
These changes will be great for these coasters. GCI ALSO HAD PUT some titan track on the Kentucky Rumbler.
Yes, I heard about that last year.
They also put more on Predator this year.
Gravity Group precut track comes in both horizontal and vertical configurations. Great Escape's new Bobcat has exclusively precut track and uses both types.
Interesting! I love their precut track.
Thanks for the insight! Can't wait to try out the new track.
You're welcome!
Excalibur at Funtown is also getting some precut track this off-season, and Bobcat at Great Escape is opening with precut track already on it. I really commend Gravity Group for their engineering and persistence to keep wooden coasters alive.
Awesome! Do you know which part of Excalibur?
I think we enthusiasts should give a huge shoutout to Lake Compounce for not giving up on Wildcat. It's one of the most beautiful woodies out there and makes for one of the most iconic Amusement Park entrances. It would have been so easy to bulldoze it after the last refurb debacle but they stuck with it.
I hope it is finally smooth after this.
Boulder Dash is my favorite wooden coaster that I've never been on 😂
It's an amazing ride.
I Wonder Why They Went With Gravity Group For Wildcat Instead Of GCI Who Did The Titan Track For Boulder Dash.
My Guess Is They Wanted It To Stay A Classic Wooden Coaster.
Have You Got An Answere From Staff During Your Visit Of The Site On Why They Didn't Put Titan Track On Wildcat?
They wanted to keep it a wood coaster to honor the history. GCI can do wood retracks too (as evidenced by their work on Boulder Dash with IPE wood).
If it's 1 train for a whole season, the line must never be very fast. Is there a good time to go and get a 15 min wait without speedy pass?
It has been one train since the pandemic (and it was one train 95-99% of the time before that). I have good luck going on Sunday nights during their Halloween event.
Go early in the day.
@@notdoctorq I find that often it's not even open early in the day.
5:10 I actually think there could be some nice but controlled floater airtime due to the new profiling of the hills! Nothing to make it a non-family coaster but enough to make it a bit more interesting!
There is airtime now.
@@CanobieCoaster I am really happy about it!
Thanks for the info! It’s unfortunate to hear that Boulder Dash only has one train - is that always the case?
They own two, but they've only run one since covid. Pre-covid, they ran one train 95-99% of the time.
im glad GCI realized that while titan track is cool, they can just use IPE wood and get almost the same result. i mean look at how smooth ghostrider and mystic timbers are
Believe it or not, IPE wood is more expensive than titan track.
@@gianfeliciano9816 didn't know that!
It's nice It's getting wood along with the steel.
I have never actually ridden Wildcat. I go there, I'm tempted, then I think... everyone in the entire world says this coaster is one of the worst pain machines they've ever ridden; why should I torture myself? I'm on the other side of fifty. I'm not THAT much of an enthusiast. And I go ride Phobia Phear Coaster or Boulder Dash. Or Ghost Hunt.
So I guess I'm gonna ride Wildcat now. I *love* rides like this, old classic woodies with a complicated history (even if there's a Ship of Theseus thing going on with most of them--a ride like that is a process, not an object). I don't really care if they're not particularly intense. I'm fond of Six Flags New England's Thunderbolt. I rode the old Wildcat at Elitch Gardens, which I've heard Compounce's Wildcat is very similar to.
Boulder Dash is more frustrating. I love that ride, in theory. It has the potential to be one of the world's greatest woodies. I didn't love it in practice the last time I rode it--the jackhammering was intense. I hope they can save it.
(Phobia Phear Coaster is an interesting psychological phenomenon: it's appropriately named; people are really scared to go on it just from looking at it. Even if they'll ride Boulder Dash, which to my mind is far more intense. Whereas Wildcat is the one I won't go on because of the Internet.)
You were right to skip Wildcat tbh. Last year i took someone to lake compounce for the first time and they kept asking to go on wildcat. I told them that the only way id let us ride it is if we rode it as the last thing of the day. They argued with me but i refused to do it any earlier. We go on it before leaving and both of us left with body aches and migraines… we get off the ride and he turns to me and goes Jesus Christ.. you werent kidding that ride was horrifyingly pad.
Boulder Dash is intense, but it does have some shake in wheel seats. Wildcat truly awful in any row.
Will wildcat keep the GCI trains then? Presumably they will
Yea they will, why would they replace them lol
Yes
I just rode
sky Rush with the new restraints
Hope you liked it!
I wonder how much are they allowed to re-tracks the Wildcat since it is a National Landmark?
Looks like they can retrack most if not all of it.
Jimmy's Wave Swinger at Lake All-Stars in Bristol, Connecticut, United States of America Since 2001
Jimmy's Wave Swinger?
@@CanobieCoaster You got it. You got that right.
The Dinn Retrack is what I suspect made Wildcat rough
I imagine that contributed mightily.
YOU FORGOT GRIZZLEY AT KINGS DOMINION!!!
I only gave a few examples of the precut track. I know there are more such as that ride.
@@CanobieCoaster well that was the most important one. The first time they took a bad coaster and made it fantastic.
....and the beast at King's Island which I think would trump the racer. 🤷
That's another one with precut track.
Boulder Dash is my favorite woodie. People always rave about the power of El Torro but for my money BD has it beat. Also that mountain journey is unlike almost any other wooden coaster. I can't wait to ride the updated version, hope they didn't ruin the power.
El Toro has 4 moments better than any individual hill on Boulder Dash, but this ride has superior quantity and location.
A reprofiling won't be enough to save wildcat the only way to fix it is to rmc it
It’s nearly 100 years old though
Like what the other comment said I wouldn't care if leap the dips were to be demolished tomorrow but other people do care and I can see why Wildcat isn't going anywhere at least in the next 10 years
@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od I had a stroke reading that. Can you say it more understandable?
There are plenty of RMCs out there for the RMC thrill seekers. For this historic family thrill coaster, Gravity Group is the best choice, as theirs are excellent examples of fun and exciting coasters for all ages.
@georgeoliver4704 have you ridden mine blower or switchback recently, because if you have then you would know how poorly gravity group ages
REMOVE ALL RIDES. RAISE ALL PRICES. JUST FOR FUN.
They're investing in some current ones here.
