You know, Alec, this almost made me cry. I left Greenock in the summer of 1981 and got on a bus headed South parked on Kilblain Street. From that day to this, I have not walked on that street. Also loved the West Station footage - I've lost track of the number of times I came out of that station after going to gigs at the Apollo and Burns Howff. Days of innocence and hope with the adrenaline of youth rushing through my soul. There's almost no chance of me ever returning to walk down that street, so I thank you for this reminder of teenage days.
Keep going to this site. Born in Greenock 85 years back, remember all of the pics including the West Station where I started work in 1947. Left in 1956 for CanadaMibbe wan last trip hame!!..
Looks like it was filmed from Regent court. Very recent as JWC has its new name plate on the top corner, and possibly a Wednesday or Friday morning as I'm pretty sure that's when the Waverley makes her way down river, usually just before dinner time. Quite possibly 100% wrong on all counts though :-)). Nice clear video, be good to look back on it in a few years and see what changes may have taken place in the town.
Great shots.
