    Now peachy has left i think taking the direction of you (pat) going on your hobby journey is rather refreshing. Most of all its 100% genuine with each little mistake coming up with ways to do it better picking up new skills etc. i think it will be great to see how your painting evolves in the months to come!

    Please keep making this kind of content. Bought the ultra at Christmas and been slow to test it out because it can be daunting watching expert tutorials but seeing your last airbrushing video and this one has confirmed I made the right purchase, has made me more confident in giving it a go and I watched the whole video until the end unlike the Warhammer content that chases the algorithms and I tune out before finishing. You failing and succeeding at Warhammer is more entertaining and engaging than experts making everything perfect so please keep this format. Would love to see you airbrush a whole squad showing the cleaning and changing of paints along the way, maybe some OSL airbrushing as well!

    I'm really impressed with this video. It's the first video about airbrushing that's made me think it's worth trying. I've always avoided getting an airbrush because of the maintenance and cleaning. It's seemed like a lot of work, but your explanation is really good. It looks like the barrier of entry skill wise isn't as bad as I had thought.

      I bought airbrush + compressor and didn’t use it for 10 years for the reasons you mentioned. Once I sat down for a full day to base coat minis and terrain it was fine. Tutorials exist but if you have some one who can just show you in person you will realise it’s not that much of hurdle.

    Literally bought this airbrush yesterday, due to my old (inherited) one giving up the ghost. It was a cheap cheap one, but it was free and worked 40% of the time. Thank you so much Pat for reassuring my decision on getting it. As I am a utter utter novice and, like your previous video, scared as hell using one.... and I have a need to paint some Mangler Squigs in my future. big areas to paint! Eek! Keep up the great content both of you.

    Great video.
    I’ve had my Ultra for a month and it’s been the best hobby purchase I’ve ever made.
    I previously destroyed 3x airbrushes (2x premium & 1x budget) in 2yrs because I just couldn’t grasp the skills/knowledge required. I lost all confidence as a result and just stopped trying.
    I’m now using the new Ultra all the time, with real confidence. The odd issue I’ve had I’ve managed to work out and fix the problem pretty easily.
    Can’t recommend it highly enough.

    Really great vid that comes across as intelligent whilst out of your depth, done with such natural honesty that I identified 100%
    The story is finding your feet and finding the start of the path using the brush and very good people, very generous with their first class advice. The vid then allows us to share in that and get a bit of it ourselves. I'm looking at upgrading to this brush, not an airbrush beginner but not really progressing lately and this system might allow me to backtrack a bit and push through. It's this or a kickstarter laden with beautiful minis, got a huge grey pile, but well, FOMO, and the brush won't sell out lol.
    Just a great vid

    I’m new to airbrushing, and use that exact airbrush. It’s fantastic.
    You can mix paints in airbrush cup. Vastly faster. Trick is thinner first! Then paints. You can use a makeup sponge to block end to bubble paint for mixing. Fast & uses less paint.

    When i first returned to the hobby (less than a year ago), I found an airbrush super cheap and brand new at a yard sale. I did not have anything resembling luck with it, and have just moved on. That said - this airbrush, and like you said the "training wheels", makes me really consider giving it a shot. There are some thing you just cannot do with a brush - at least I can't - that an airbrush can. Excellent info, thanks!

    I purchased this brush recently. I got the Squidward version of the ultra and what the brush is done for me is it allows me to realize my mistakes as being a new airbrushing. So like I was painting primer on minis after Minnie and I wasn’t checking the needle and I was getting no paint and I would change the pressure and then I would get paint and then it would stop and I had to stop the process and figure out where, I went wrong. Because if you follow the process, it should be easy to figure out so I mix my pants. I spray I spray I spray I wash the tip with a brush push the mirror out then spray and spray and spray spray and spray check the model, clean tip with that brush then do it again

    It takes people who know the product, to develop the product. Harder & Steenbeck are lucky in having people at the top who know how to use an Airbrush and know how to make one. The Ultra is the only airbrush ever made that from it's inception has had the beginner at the core of it's design. II am contracted to the factory and have taught, demonstrated and used for several brands over the last 30 years, I have not seen development of an airbrush by any other brand that even gets close to these H&S airbrushes.

    • @rankcolour8780
      @rankcolour8780 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nothing stopping you from backflowing it, it's not difficult to block the nozzle with your fingers or if you are less-able or suffer some disability some wadded paper or a nozzle cap.

    • @thepaintingphase
      @thepaintingphase  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This was my initial gripe with it too but I've gotten used to mixing paint with the handle of a paint brush. Blocking the nozzle is a pain with all the holes so I don't bother.
      A trick I was shown, however, if you unscrew the cap by a tiny amount and pull the trigger, that starts a backflow.

    Great video, I've been toying with airbrushing for soooo long can I ask what compressor you use? Also are the 'peripheral' bits additional necessary purchases? Cheers 💚

      A cleaning pot definitely comes in handy. Can shoot any excess paint and cleaner into that which is ideal. Stands and stuff aren't necessary.
      I'll check the compressor and get back to you, can't remember which one it is.

    After a few years I now put my paint through a strainer before airbrushing, there are always some chunks or dirt that can clog your needle.....:)

    Great video. I’ve got the same brush and enjoyed it but had some problems with the 1,2, and 3 options of the brush. Probably my inability to thin things properly. What PSI were you using for the video?

    • @thepaintingphase
      @thepaintingphase  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      25 psi the whole time. I definitely flooded a bit of detail holding the trigger down a bit too long on some close up details. I've found feathering the trigger helped a bunch

    audio quality when you are up and about leaves a bit to be desired - also any chance of a video explaining why peachy left, like most others I only use youtube to keep up with hobbying and feel a bit clueless!

      Sorry we won’t be explaining it, as it will only detract from trying to get on with the doing the best for our channel. Peachy’s starting his own channel and we wish him the best of luck with it.

    If I have a bunch of citadel paints - non airbrush paints ones, can I use them in an airbrush? Will the 50/50 or 1/1 with thinner work still?

    • @thepaintingphase
      @thepaintingphase  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes you can still use non air paints, just practice your ratios.

    Does it recommend a specific PSI setting as a onesie size fits all? In respect to this airbrush?

    • @thepaintingphase
      @thepaintingphase  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      20-25 psi seems to be the adopted standard for this.

    Instead of shooting the paint through the needle when cleaning, use a squeeze bottle and some backflow first. Vince venturella has a great video of this 30 secs in between colour cleaning.

    • @thepaintingphase
      @thepaintingphase  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can't backflow this brush quite the same because of all of the holes in the cap. Bubble back has been designed out of the brush to avoid any negative experiences with it, i.e. shooting paint all over the place.

      Get a makeup sponge, jam it into it and squeeze a bit. Works great.
