A TRUE STORY and excellent presentation by the CBS Radio Workshop (originally titled Sweet Cherries in Charleston) broadcast in 1957. Based on a true story, long time slave Denmark Vesey wins a cash lottery (about two hundred grand in today's dollars) and purchases his own freedom. Educated and well read, Vesey beleives in the U.S.Constitution, and convinces other slaves to start a revolution in Charleston. It's a good listen, whether you're familiar with the story or not. The audio quality is excellent.

Must have been a Southerner that voted thumbs down. This is a fantastic, true story. It took guts for CBS Radio to produce this in the 50's.
