That makes more sense than anything the Architect was saying, so I'll just hop onto that train of thought and accept that whatever other explanations are out there, they more or less fold into this one.^^
I haven't seen the 2nd or 3rd ones since I saw them in the theater, but I came to the same conclusion. Theophagous For the record, I'm not saying that extended and complicated monologues, in and of themselves, suck. It's just that I want them to be portrayed in an interesting, emotionally tinged way so as not to make me want to fall to sleep. That's why, when you have a speech that is, quite literally, given by a machine, it doesn't come across as exactly riveting.
Ryan Ashlight Are you kidding? That's exactly why it's riveting! I would love to have a conversation with an AI! :D But if you like long complicated conversations between humans only you can watch The Sunset Limited.
When I watched this at the IMAX when it came out, some dude in the audience shouted STFU during the Architect blah blah blah. He got a round of applause.
The Architect monologue was like a big old slap in the face to go with the proud admission that they had no idea where to go with any of the stuff they'd been building up over the past two movies... after jumping off from the first one's tight, consistent narrative. While I don't approve of shouting in movie theaters, I can certainly understand it in this case.

@@Christoff070 It didn't even make any sense though. I mean, there's a difference, a thin line between what is complex and being overly pretentious. Reloaded happens to fall in under the latter unfortunately. It wasn't that deep
simon persson Seriously, Monica Bellucci and her bewbs should be in every movie. She's like Eva Green, as soon as you see her pop up on screen, you know you're getting your own "pop up" somewhere within the next 90 minutes...and probably a full-frontal. :P
”And absolutes nothing from the third” AND THATS A LIE! I loved the part where Smith said ”Cookies need love like everything does.” Cause that scene is EPIC.
ZackRToler what about dark city? if you havent seen it i highly recommend it. it goes heavily overlooked as it came out around the same time as The Matrix.
Here's what the Matrix is, I've seen a lot of bad ratings of the sequels after the first. The first was an eye opener, it was a modern take on older classics such as 1984 and ghost in the machine. The Wachowski brothers expanded on this hybrid modernised version of these classics in Reloaded and Revolutions. They were fantastic philosophical films - and people were expecting action orientated only, people complained there was too much philosophy in the sequels. The reason the first one fit so well was that it was better written. and woven into the action, Reloaded was meant to be the 'life' of the one and Revolutions 'the end' or 'revelation'. You can see a lot of Christian like philosophy in the last one. To truly enjoy the Matrix trilogy one has to see it as one whole film, Revolutions was the end chapter of the film that is why it didn't play as an ordinary film - it needed an entire feature length amount of time to wind down what the movies had built up to. Personally I found the message fantastic, the ending to Revolutions was great that a seeming 'god' was himself human and vulnerable, that by sacrificing himself he was able to save others which is the epitome of humanity and why we have survived this far. The whole of the last film was about that in ending something - be it a belief, a way of life, a dogma or mantra, you can renew again something beautiful and change the way things are, for the better. That's the problem with a lot of people these days, they want too much and understand little why. Those hyper-critical of the film expected it to GIVE them something. That's not what the matrix is about, that's not what philosophy is about.
lol, the ending of 3 was some deus-ex-machina cop-out bullshit. You sound like you've taken an intro to philosophy class, take an intro to film class next...and continue studying philosophy so that i hope one day you don't rationalize the matrix trilogy as something profound.
I haven't taken any philosophy class or movie critic class. Movie critique is opinion, yours is of equal value to mine. Finally, philosophy is a state of mind not an institution. Why don't you like the matrix trilogy, can't you find any personal allegories or metaphors you can relate to in it?
Stephen Willmer lol I almost thought he had a point till you dominated him with the "state of mind" comment. 101011001 to you for calling him out on the "you haven't understood philosophy as a bullshit formal institution" point!
Alpha FourNineTwo Wasn't telling him he hasn't understood philosophy, reread what i said, you are reading your interpretations onto my text. I wanted to simply encourage more philosophical study, and understanding of film, that is all.
+Tracy E. Hieatt (T. E.) Switch was initially intended as an androginous character, being female in the real world and male in the Matrix (or was it the other way around, can't remember). Ultimately Belinda McClory was cast for both roles. Hence the name Switch.
+Tracy E. Hieatt (T. E.) . Cypher = He took the wrong pill (code was wrong) Switch = Lesbian Tank = Survive a blow and counterattack Dozer = Light sleeper Apoc or époque = is french for a specific period of time
+MrMiky1222 Apoc is for Apocalypse and for the "Dark angel who brings the end" because he wrote the "Four Horsemen Virus" and he "ended" Neos innocence when handing him the gun in the hotel ambush.
I think what ultimately led to the final one being disliked so much is the simple fact the war between Zion and the Sentinels simply wasn't as interesting as the group fighting within the Matrix itself. Of course, resurrecting Trinity in the second movie just to kill her again in the third in a worse way certainly doesn't help either. I happen to like Reloaded a fair deal as it undoubtedly has some of the best action scenes in the series (the Chateau and Freeway Chase scenes). The story was decent too with the Architect being an initially bizarre but ultimately fun surprise. It's safe to say though, that the first one had it all (story, action, characterization), and the sequels will never compare to it.
Patrick Ward 1) The CGI got a lot worse. The plot was repetitive and didn't really add much to the story. B8ut I think the main reson is that, you know, Neo is the one. The thrill, the suspence, and the cliifhangers, all gone, because you already know he's gonna do it. And the final killing blow of the sequels: NOTHING NEW. That's why people hate them so much
Funny how this video can't seem to find one single flaw from the first film, so they bash the shit out if it's sequels, that just shows how amazing and perfect the original Matrix was
The only issue I can come up with is the completely idiotic premise of robots gathering electricity from humans. But even that was just shoe-horned by the studio, in the original untouched script, they were supposed to use our minds as some kind of RAM compartment for a main machine.
Even if we could produce enough electricity to power a society of robots, why not use animals? Wouldn't it be much easier to create a Matrix for them? It's not consistent.
Kami Megurine The human body - like any living thing, actually - is not an energy generator; it is an energy converter. It'd be far more efficient for the machines to, say, simply *burn* the food they feed to the humans than to harvest the small amounts of electrical energy a body produces from that food (most of the energy would be lost as body heat). Honestly, even having people run on treadmills would've been better. (And by the way, where are they getting the food from to begin with?)
Yes, but that doesn't work. That's a perpetual energy device. Energy has to be put into the system somehow, so the machines obviously have access to an energy source *somewhere*, meaning the whole human battery thing is a pointless workaround. :)
I find it disappointing that people joke about The Architect sequence - it's well explained - perfect world makes people bored and they start questioning reality. Make it a shitty grindy hellhole and they will keep grinding to try to get to the top of the pile and then maybe find that perfect living there. Superb! Also, this movie throws a lot of good ideas about the actual simulation we are in. Ho ho ho!
To be fair though, unless you are a perfect-grades uni student with honors or a crossword addict, it's impossible to understand the Architects dialogue on the first viewing. Took me three viewings, plus reading a forum which explained it clearly...and I have IQ of approx 140.
@@Christoff070 I did it. On my first viewing. And I'm a basement nerd with nothing in the way of vocabulary expertise except for a bunch of 1940s books.
The problem wasn’t necessary the explanation but that it was just an exposition dump. It’s like they couldn’t figure out how to eloquently explain these high level concepts through the movies narrative alone, so they just had a dude explain them to you. It was very video gamey.
Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!! "Is it too late for me to take the blue pill"😂 "The other love of Neo's life"😂 "Hm,Get a room you two" 😂 "Where it all went wrong"😂 "female Keanu reeves"😂 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
+Phil Lewis - Cassandra told the truth and was generally considered just crazy. As a woman in that society she was pretty much relegated to the position of pawn in the great game and had no power. I was thinking more in terms of actively affecting events.
By "as good" you mean "inferior in every way" right. Well, acting was about on par I suppose. But visuals and action? Replaced by terrible CG. Story? LMFAO.
Zer0Hour17 The action is obviously better. Unfortunately you do "see" that CGI is used sometimes. But it still kicks ass. And don't blame the movie if you're not fast enough to understand the plot/story. I bet you didn't notice that there are vampires in Matrix 2, did you? ;)
Rushil N Oh dont give me that "deep story" crap when its obvious mumbo jumbo stuff. I love the trilogy but sequels cant compare to original. Admitedly CGI is not bad at all but ofcourse it will seem flawed and silly at times when you watch it for 70% of the movie.
lik00001 The whole story was already written when they were shooting Matrix 1 :) What REALLY pissed off everyone is the architect's speech. That was just maybe a little too much. But then again, I don't expect a "god" to speak like a regular human.
How else was that fight supposed to play out? I mean, DBZ is pretty much the gold standard on portraying overpowered individuals fighting. And Neo's final comprehension that, in the end, neither was going to win just by slugging it out just meant he "got it" sooner than Smith. I mean, for how clever Smith was, he didn't see Neo's final tactic for what it was. I wonder, had he been on to Neo, if he could have said "I see what you're doing" and avoid his fate, how it would have gone. But I guess by that point, he was too compelled by the Oracle's narrative in his brain/program/whatever. By the time the fight started, he was already just there to lead Neo to the door.
I had to write a comment here for once in respect of that Neo and Morpheus montage. Nailed it so perfectly while also seeing something so obviously there when you point it out, but I didn't expect it so literally burst out laughing for ages. Thanks guys, that was brilliant.
This movie owned 1999 so hard and changed the action and sci-fi genres forever, and CGI in particular. 20 fcking years already, can't believe it! feels like yesterday. Amazing experience for a 14 yo teen.
Well, i think the third one have quality to. But its far to slow to watch, its kind of return of the king. Its the right concept, but the wrong pacing. A action movie with slow pacing seldomly work. The story is still there.. well they fuckt it up, but part of it is there, but the pacing is totally of. Cuting 2 and 3 down to the length of the first one, the pacing would probably be okey. There also been a lot of complaints about the dragonball Z ripof in the third, but not about the ghost in the shell rip of in the first.
I am aware it's nostalgia glasses, but I wish instant messaging like AOL and MSN stuck around a little longer instead of the festering social media monopoly it is today. google+ my backside
Mormons are a religious group that originated in the U.S.. Mormons are known for wearing suits, riding bikes, and visiting people's homes. A common joke, in the U.S., is about how Mormon's knock on people's doors and the people inside pretend to not be at home. It's funny bcoz people will visibly turn off their lights, TVs, and whisper softly, hoping they don't hear them. This joke can be applied to Jehovah's Witnesses, too, another religious group.
mkvision I'm a mormon. In case you're wondering why we knock on doors, it's because it's common practice to serve a "mission" which is essentially two years away from home so we can spread our gospel (DEDICATION!!!!)
fourdotsYT Wrong. It was not a trilogy from the beginning. It BECAME a trilogy after the first movie was a hit. That is why the first film is a stand-alone that is not dependent on any sequels to tell a story, and also why the first film feels so radically different from the sequels, which are mostly CGI.
Trinity Martin Ok. I'll accept that, so ignore that part in parentheses then. That was not my main assertion. To me the first movie ends in a big question mark. It left me wondering when the sequel would come out to explain things. I know there's a lot of hate for the sequels, but I didn't get why. I'm thinking now that it has more to do with the superficiality of most viewers, sfx & action junkies: easily wowed by the bullet time effects, bullet dodge, bullet stop, slo-mo Trinity flying kick, 360⁰ Neo-Smith jump, etc. It's the reason most christians know and go ape-shit over genesis, but know very little else of the rest of the bible (which incidentally many of the metaphors in the trilogy come from). The sequels are for thinking people. To understand the subtext and how it relates to our real world, to the existential dilemma within each of us. What exactly the matrix really is. Why 'Neo', the anomaly, exists and its implication. What Zion is and why it exists. The endless recurrence of the anomaly and how the matrix must be restarted each time, and how to eventually resolve it. The emergence of the counter anomaly: smith. And so on. I understood exactly what the Architect meant when he gave his soliloquy - I remember a grin creep across my face knowing that most will have been dumbfounded by his speech, still not knowing what was going on. I understood what the oracle was. And for the action junkies there were enough eye candy that held some actual meaning: the epic machine battle in Zion, the epic battle with Smith at the end. How else would you do those without CGI? People don't seem to mind the Animatrix being entirely animated... Plus I think the Merovingian is one of the coolest characters in film history. If you'd only watched it on the surface, you would have missed this and a lot more in the subtext. It helps if you've read some and could pick up on the metaphors.
It was completely understandable, but honestly its a action film. They ruined the moment when they went all theoretical science philosophy. It could have been done like this" We are machines and we are better." and bill would have been"Naw, that is none none none, none hainus."
Say: People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff.
If you watch Matrix in reverse it's a story of a guy who quit drugs and finds a job.

...Hell yeah, Gun Kata FTW!

Seriously, Monica Bellucci and her bewbs should be in every movie.
I've never seen the second or third matrix movies, what was so bad about them?
Movies like The Matrix and The Truman Show have fucked up my perspective of reality since childhood
ZackRToler dont forget toystory
You sound like you've taken an intro to philosophy class, take an intro to film class next...and continue studying philosophy so that i hope one day you don't rationalize the matrix trilogy as something profound.
very good , you are right !
I haven't taken any philosophy class or movie critic class. Movie critique is opinion, yours is of equal value to mine. Finally, philosophy is a state of mind not an institution. Why don't you like the matrix trilogy, can't you find any personal allegories or metaphors you can relate to in it?
Stephen Willmer
lol I almost thought he had a point till you dominated him with the "state of mind" comment.
The Neo and Morpheus scene is just too funny
Neo... One... Neo... One... N-E-O... O-N-E.
Holy shit, how the hell did I not get that.
Neo-one. Anderson-son of man.
Neo Anderson=the one son of man
epicjn Morpheus = Greek god of dreams
Trinity - because there's three of them, plus the religious undertones
K IRA Mouse = Because, well, he didnt last long...
+Tracy E. Hieatt (T. E.) Switch was initially intended as an androginous character, being female in the real world and male in the Matrix (or was it the other way around, can't remember). Ultimately Belinda McClory was cast for both roles. Hence the name Switch.
+Tracy E. Hieatt (T. E.) .
Cypher = He took the wrong pill (code was wrong)
Switch = Lesbian
Tank = Survive a blow and counterattack
Dozer = Light sleeper
Apoc or époque = is french for a specific period of time
+MrMiky1222 Apoc is for Apocalypse and for the "Dark angel who brings the end" because he wrote the "Four Horsemen Virus" and he "ended" Neos innocence when handing him the gun in the hotel ambush.

"Mormons" got me choking on my saliva.
Also you definitely missed comparing Hugo Weaving to Jacksfilms
How is The Matrix Reloaded or Revolutions bad?? I honestly don't get why people hate them they were both pretty cool
they were alright on there own but apart of a trilogy they sucked compared to the first one which was awesome
Frank Thepug How though? No one's ever actually had an actual reason as to why they suck which kind of irritates me :P
i personally dont like how its a deathfest with morpheus being the only surviving character who was in all of the films
That's why people hate them so much
"Mr. Ambien.... MORMONS!" That had me dying...
Kami Megurine
The human body - like any living thing, actually - is not an energy generator; it is an energy converter.
Life Happens i think the human rott and turn into liquid and fed to young born...rince and repeat =)
Pfft. Nerd.

"The Last Spoon-bender"

FINAL FLA-DAAAA FUKKIT KAKAROT I CANT BE ARSED
Now we need an Honest Trailer for The Matrix Resurrections!
Already have
Matrix 2 and 3 were as good as the 1st one.
Unfortunately, when a sequel is only as good as its original, it's considered as crap.
Not very fair.
Admitedly CGI is not bad at all but ofcourse it will seem flawed and silly at times when you watch it for 70% of the movie.
lik00001 The whole story was already written when they were shooting Matrix 1 :)
What REALLY pissed off everyone is the architect's speech. That was just maybe a little too much. But then again, I don't expect a "god" to speak like a regular human.
i like them mostly, i mean it could have taken other routes which is what people found annoying but the zion scenes were painful to watch
Get a room you two 😂
The Last Spoonbender LOL
The Dragon Ball reference is what every single person thought when watched that scene
DBZ?
More like Ghost In The Shell.
By the time the fight started, he was already just there to lead Neo to the door.
that's an epic bromance tbh
I didn't mind reloaded, apart from the lack of actual bullet time.
¡¡¡OH GOD, THE LAST SPOON BENDER, THAT KILLED ME XD!!!
“Mormons” help, I wheezed out my lungs.
I had to write a comment here for once in respect of that Neo and Morpheus montage. Nailed it so perfectly while also seeing something so obviously there when you point it out, but I didn't expect it so literally burst out laughing for ages.

Is it a bad thing that I liked ALL the matrix movies?
***** The second one was ok, not good but ok, the third one sucked.
bryce ober The third one had a weak plot but I loved the trip to center of the computer and the final battle with Neo and Smith
There also been a lot of complaints about the dragonball Z ripof in the third, but not about the ghost in the shell rip of in the first.
if you liked it then no. fuck what anybody else thinks

the last spoonbender, mormons (what the heck is mormon?) and squidward??
LMAO!
In case you're wondering why we knock on doors, it's because it's common practice to serve a "mission" which is essentially two years away from home so we can spread our gospel (DEDICATION!!!!)

at the end of 2023 this is still one of the best ways to spend 4 minutes on youtube.
Am I the only one who likes the third Matrix movie?
yes
No I love all three of them wish neo didn't die though
Stupid people didn't like the sequels (it was a trilogy from the beginning, folks..) because they didn't understand them.
fourdotsYT
Wrong.
Lost it at The Last Spoonbender :D I'm so done right now :D
I feel like I'm the only guy here who totally understood what The Architect was saying during that scene.
Don't worry, there can only be one. Literally, the ONE
I feel like I'm the only guy here who totally thought of Will Ferrell during that seen.
It was completely understandable, but honestly its a action film. They ruined the moment when they went all theoretical science philosophy. It could have been done like this" We are machines and we are better." and bill would have been"Naw, that is none none none, none hainus."
The last spoonbender! You got me there, LOL!
