The sound tech’s back then were amazing recording live shows. For another fun live performance check out Cheap Trick “I Want You To Want Me” live at Buddhacon. (Sorry if my spelling is wrong.)

Whoever said Billy wasn't punk was being salty. Billy was part of the 'Bromley Contingent', a bunch of punk young people hanging out with the Sex Pistols & others early in the UK punk era. He's good friends with many of those people, even doing a tour recently (or now?) w/Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols. He started a band called Generation X, they got pretty big but he decided to go solo and that's when he became more well known & 'commercial'. He's a good song writer and he met Steve Stevens, his long time, amazing guitarist, and the rest is history. He's not a 'fake' or anything, he's a genuine guy.

I love Steve Stevens imbelishments they are always matched to the song perfectly. Brilliant work and btw most live albums are maybe part live 😂.

It is amazing how, even when you are sick and feeling shitty, music can make you dance in your seat?

YOU ARE correct in the pronounciation. This song is from the Shondells I think originally. Billy is amazing. I am a Gen x survivor and Billy was my Jam. You are doing very well with your reactions kiddo. I love them...Making this old lady quite happy.

I remember when this came out, this was a song played anywhere there was a crowd dancing! I remember like my hometown fair or something, everyone dancing and shouting Mony Mony at the top of their voices! It was pretty popular as I recall as was his other songs in the 80’s!
    Great reaction!👍

The guitarist is Steve Stephens and he's pretty top tier. Steve Stephens also played on Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana.

This was during the time of music videos on MTV 24 hours a day! They got pretty expressive with the video production back then. Every new song had to have a video if they wanted any air time 👵🏼💜☮️

Be sure to look up his band GENERATION X. This was before he went solo. They helped kick off the second British invasion that happened in the early 80s. A LOT of bands owe them credit for bringing British new wave.. or punk light.. to the states. Huge bands like Duran Duran, flock of seagulls etc.. give Gen x full credit for starting the new wave movement.. he became a bit "harder" as a solo guy... and Money Money is actually a cover of a 60s song..

I had the Generation X/Gen X records in college in the 80s and played them over and over, so good! Still like listening to those songs.

Tommy James did the original and was one of the writers. Inspiration came from when Tommy or one of the other writers, was in New York and saw a sign on one of the tall buildings, MONY …. Mutual of New York ( insurance company)

Billy has been playing this song in his sets since he went solo. He also has played L. A. Woman live for about as long. Check out his VH-1 Storytellers concert cause he tells how he formed his sound and the origins of most of his hits. He ends that concert with killer versions of Mony Mony & L. A. Woman back to back full throttle ! And Steve Stevens is a great guitarist. With Billy he played more for the song creating cool soundscapes but trust he can rip it with the best of them.

You keep saying Billy Idol is before his time. You're correct. He enjoyed a really successful career until the early 90s. When he released Cyberpunk (1993) He knew the music scene was changing and he decided to change too. I loved Cyberpunk, it did not sound like anything that was being released at the time. This was a weird time in music. You were seeing hair metal fall and grunge beginning to take over. The Cyberpunk album was Nu-Metal before there was Nu-Metal. He was literally 5 years too soon. If he had released Cyberpunk in 98 it would have been a hit.

Weddings 90s 2000s this song was always played. Few songs got all ages up on the dance floor as this and even at weddings.... those added bad words to the lyrics would be shouted out by some, especially if the song was played later rather than early at the reception after more had a few extra wines and mix drinks in them. Still today I would think it gets wedding play simply for its ability to bring people to the dance floor.

Ground Zero UK punk was our Bill. Generation X started in London in 76, I saw them in 78. The band was a drugged up shambles by then but Billy was, as ever, too good looking to live. They broke up a couple of years later & in the time between that & getting himself off the drugs he formulated his plan to go the mainstream pop/rock route & crack America. To be honest pretty much everyone over here was amazed when he actually pulled it off ! Can't keep a good man down I guess !

This was a cover song, Idol was nowhere near ahead of his time.He played simplistic new wave . what are you talking about. This is exactly how Tommy James who wrote it did it. You have no clue what your talking about
