I mean i know Lauryn hill been lowkey disrespecting her fans by showing up to concerts late but to hear how demanding she is and how she treats her crew/ex-crew is shocking to say the least and I'm beyond disappointed. I hope not all what was said about her was true.
I believe Robert Glasper off the strength of how disrespectful Lauryn is to her own damn fans. I waited at least 1.5 hours to see her at AfroPunk and her renditions of the songs were nowhere close to the original track. I can appreciate a deviation from the original song but Lauryn's live songs were almost unrecognizable. Secondly, Robert Glasper is an established artist and he should NOT have to audition for his peers. For example, could you imagine Chaka Khan asking Prince or Stevie to audition for the instrumentals in the 70s? Could you imagine Patti or Aretha asking Donny Hathaway to audition? That sounds ridiculous for any established artist. You either vibe with their music or you don't. It sounds like Lauryn was a perfectionist or either had no idea of what she wanted.
HelloLove- I experienced the same thing at her live show. My opinion definitely has changed from that point foward! Good look for calling this "disrespect" out!

For Robert Glasper "writing music" means like the actual production and instrumentation I think. Not necessarily the lyrics. Like all the music Robert Glasper makes he is the band leader when it's his album

But the miseducation lyrics are consistant with her lyrics and message prior to the miseducation (the score) and after the miseducation (do you like the way, turn your lights down low, here but gone, rebel, the mystery of iniquity and freedom time,) and its matches the way she speaks. There are many people (who were actually there, Rober Glasper was NOT) who say she wrote the album like pras, john legend, santana, commissioner gordon.
This is a classic album...but it’s an R&B album. It’s not a hip hop album. For me, it doesn’t matter if she didn’t write all of it because it’s not a rap album. Does it tarnish her legacy? No. But treating people like shit and showing up late for her own shows is what has tarnished her legacy in my eyes. Robert Glasper’s interview actually made Lauryn type up a loooong ass response that she posted (you can google it). So, his words stung because she doesn’t do interviews and social media. I still love the album and I love her as an artist. But I’m not going to see her perform.
If Lauryn hill didn’t write miseducation can we assume she didn’t write her verses on fugees albums, like wyclef and prase did it all? Robert glapsers comments were stark when you consider she hasn’t followed up miseducation and likely wont
jordanpag97 that’s what I’ve been hearing recently, I read an article how others was writing all her Fugees lyrics and after they broke up she only had one album because no one wanted to work with her anymore. (write her lyrics) I don’t know how credible it was but The Score and Miseducation will still remain 2 of my favorite albums of all time no matter what.
Nah I'd be very surprised if she didn't write her lyrics! All these rumors & court case's have always been about her not crediting others for creating the music... The people that sued her were a collective of musicians.
jordanpag97 but is that logical? Lauryn was consistently superior to clef and pras on every single song with the fugees. And the lyrics on the mtv unplugged is believe it or not actually better than the miseducation. Its just not made with the goal of being "comercial". If anything it would be more logical to think that lauryn hill wrote for wyclef and pras during the fugees era. As soon as the fugees broke up. Wyclef and pras' rapping and lyrics immediately became sooo weak. Lauryn hill remained strong . mystery of inequity, freedom time, turn your lights down low. Lauryn hill was dope in and out of the fugees. And after miseducation.
I respect y'all, but you need a musician's perspective on this one. You don't audition artists at a certain point, you either take them, or don't call them at all. You also need to have a level of trust with your band, like a family. If you're thinking about threataning your band or something like that, you should just fire them.

I have a hard time believing that Lauryn didn't write anything on her album. Are we also saying that she didn't write anything on the Fugee albums? I don't see how she went from killing it with the Fugees to having no skill what's so ever on her solo album...
Or she did her solo work and fugees work at the same time and after that nobody wanted to work with her and she had nothing to provide except for performing old stuff.

Are y’all forgetting the mtv unplugged album. The lyrics on that album were just as profound maybe even deeper than the miseducation. And that was a solo effort, she fired her whole team when that was out so I refuse to believe she didn’t write her album or her verses on the score.

We did get another album, and the lyrics on that album were even better than Miseducation. You should listen to the MTV Unplugged album that Lauryn released. It does not have the production that Lauryn's album first does, but it is superior. Lauryn outdid herself. On Miseducation, it seems that the message got lost in the sound. Her second album though, the message is loud and clear.
I still think she needs to get credit for the work she did outside of the Miseducation. Go back and check the credits for Blunted on Reality - Fugees, The Score - Fugees, A Rose - Aretha Franklin, Do You Like the Way - Carlos Santana, The Best of You - Andrea Martin, On That Day - Cece Winans etc
The miseducation of Lauryn hill is not her only project. She has the mtv unplugged, and she had her most recent project I believe that came out maybe last year
those chairs are beautiful! just had to say that. regarding lauryn, if she didn't write her lyrics on 'miseducation', who wrote her lyrics on 'the score'? she did more rapping than singing on that album.
To make this program atleast do fact checks else this becomes a ‘gossip show’. Lauryn Hill was hired by Arista Records as a songwriter, she was hired to write songs for Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Mary J Blige. Also there was a settlement ( she did not lose the case) she settled after a 2 year battle with New Ark who were producers. She settled over production credits and not songwriting credits.
@@justice19xx31 Lauryn chose to settle because she was tired of fighting. After she settled New Ark went to her house to see if they were still "cool". Lauryn is very prolific and spiritual and believes in doing the right thing. After the album was successful, then New Ark came after her, though she had paid them for their work already in an agreement they had made. One of the musicians actually said that the sounds were in Lauryn's head, but since she doesn't play many instruments, it was their job to play the sounds Lauryn wanted... As far as song writing goes, some people feel that just because they add a few words to a song, they should be credited. Kelly Clarkson is on record saying that if she doesn't add something significant to a song written, she doesn't take credit. She even said that for her hit "My Life Would Suck Without You", though she made a significant contribution, refused to take credit so her name would not appear next to a songwriter she did not like.
A lot of people seem to be assuming Lauryn didn't write her own lyrics because of this!!! I'd be very surprised if she didn't write her lyrics! All these rumors & court case's have always been about her not crediting others for creating the music... The people that sued her were a collective of musicians.
Beezy look like a Detroit baked bean in the thumbnail. Shouts out to y'all tho, been watching y'all niggas since 2011 when kinge had da hairline. Bless up.
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire 🔥 If an artist won’t apologise for behind 2 and a half hours late, to her fans, one can only imagine how she would treat musicians that she viewed as a mere extension of her self attributed ‘musical brilliance’, while she can’t play a guitar for shit.
What about her song Zion? Her writing style for Zion is very similar to her album. I think she wrote majority of her album. She may have taken suggestions and had help with arrangements but I don't think she "stole" anything. I think the big wigs are doing all they can to discredit this woman because she refused to play their game. Robert sounds like a clout chaser to me. If someone stole my friend's music I darn sure wouldn't be going to work with them. Make it make sense. I think her persona has changed because of the adversity that she has faced. I don't know what tf people expect, she's human.
Denzel Washington is not out here audtioning for work fellas. I get your point but, its pretty common knowledge that in the arts, heck even in business, people come for you.
I'm curious what was mike c-town was talking about when he said "Everybody at YP treated us like shit, we're the backbone but we... can be... replaced". 10:57-11:03
The way she treats her fans this is not really hard to believe. It's well known that she arrives to concerts extremely late and then just completely underperforms.
My dad's company actually had a client that was booked Lauryn Hill for a performance and she was doing the exact same things of like nobody looking her in the eyes and shit, but also she was super demanding, asked to be paid mostly upfront and showed up late lol
There are tons of music that I don't like but can still appreciate why people love them or how influential they are/were. This is the only album I just don't get. At all. I definitely feel like this is not at all as good as people claim and it is far from the best album ever made.
Al B Sure actually produced the early music for Jodeci. He hooked up DeVante's demos. Lauryn didn't steal. She had those artists signed to contracts that they didn't understand and likely didn't read. They came back and sued because they couldn't promote the work without verifiable credits. She settled because it's easier to deal with and wasn't much of an expense compared to what she made and will continue to make from it. She didn't have more albums because of politics and business issues, and this wasn't the era of SoundCloud and such ease of independence. And the New Ark people haven't recreated that magic because her star power, image, storyline, vocal talent, popularity as an actress, etc had as much if not more to do with the content and musicianship
According to the track list, only four of the 16 songs had contributing writers. And then one song was written by someone else. But other than that she pretty much wrote everything else on her own or had someone help write
This XXL article from 5 years ago where 3 out of 4 of the New Ark producers/songwriters give a track by track breakdown of how each song from Miseducation was made is so necessary to check out: www.xxlmag.com/news/2013/08/a-track-by-track-breakdown-of-the-miseducation-of-lauryn-hill/
Shit is a shame, seems like after the law suit and her dealing with that marley dood, everything went down hill for her. The IRS pressed her and she cant even perform the actual original music from her album because she doesn't own it....its almost like wasted talent because fans never really got a follow up to it, that unplugged shit doesn't count.
someone who is extremely accomplished typically doesn't have to audition just like the example used Denzel isn't auditioning anymore and to have someone do it over the phone is even more ridiculous
Getting Guru vibes when one of his musicians talking about how Solar abused him and the musicians. This made me realize more how underappreciated musicians back in the day were and hopefully it's better now. A lot of head artists get cocky and think they can get over for their entire career then they stop releasing music and people ask questions. Ever since that Talib Medium article about Hill I thought she seemed strange especially with her canceling shows and him saying she can just not show up because people don't ''own'' her. I saw some response piece on Medium by some black feminist. Was at least interesting.
Robert Glasper seemed like he was more insulted that Lauryn expected him to 'audition' for a gig and he felt he was at a stage in his career that he was beyond that.... He was reckless with saying she stole her music. She took production credit that other's feel like they should have been credited for, but why are we acting like the industry doesn't operate like that all the time. People wrote songs, arranged or produced and were never in the liner notes....but Lauryn Hill does what people across the industry have been doing since the beginning and it's a mark on her... People just hear stories or see what the outcome is (her being late for shows,) but no one knows what the situation even is that's causing this stuff. How do you know she isn't being jerked around by promoters because she doesn't have major label backing anymore, how do you know Robert Glasper was expecting other people to entertain his ego? It's easier to speculate as opposed to being a combination of issues, or hearing from the woman herself.
Supposedly Michael wqs like that too with calling him certain names and no eye contact. MJ wanted to work with Dre but wanted to do it on MJs terms and Dre was like "HELL naaaww". Dont get artists like that. How can you be that pompass especially when youre stealing and lying. PS. Really hoping Myke comes through on that Kamikaze album reviews and keeps it real on how bland it was.
It's believable that there are ghostwriters... I mean Beyonce's Lemonade is supposed to be a 'female empowerment' album but has like 30 over male CREDITED writers writing songs from the perspective of a female so i wouldn't be surprised.
Nicholas Lim ZJ people really don't understand that being "credited" on a song DOES NOT MEAN YOU CONTRIBUTED LYRICAL CONTENT. there are so many things one can do to deserve a 'credit' on a song.
Who is Lauryn Hill to be asking a better musician to be auditioning for her? Especially when she and her team sought him out he didn’t come asking to play for her.

The miseducation of Lauryn hill is not her only project. She has the mtv unplugged, and she had her most recent project I believe that came out maybe last year
those chairs are beautiful! just had to say that. regarding lauryn, if she didn't write her lyrics on 'miseducation', who wrote her lyrics on 'the score'? she did more rapping than singing on that album.
man this album is sooooooooo goooood
AliEnigma Show I didn’t know what to expect
Shot By Nolan what u mean brother
If people contributed, give them CREDIT!
Hahahahahaha Mykes look in the beginning had me fucking dead
Che Pope talked about lack of credit on Miseducation a few years ago at the Red Bull Academy
Bring an updated video on this case
need that MGK / Eminem diss on a DEHH Conversations video like yesterday
Hoping you guys review that new KA aka Hermit & The Recluse- Orpheus vs. The Sirens.
Settling is losing just out of court. You wouldn't settle if you think or know you can win the case

Respectfully, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
You don’t know what she settled specifically. She bought the silence of those involved in the song writing, musicianship, production and lyrics.
@@nicolletelangdon2694 please sit doesn’t and stop talking about stuff you seem not to know about 😅😅😅😅
A lot of people seem to be assuming Lauryn didn't write her own lyrics because of this!!!
Bless up.
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire 🔥
If an artist won’t apologise for behind 2 and a half hours late, to her fans, one can only imagine how she would treat musicians that she viewed as a mere extension of her self attributed ‘musical brilliance’, while she can’t play a guitar for shit.
I don't know what tf people expect, she's human.
awww you know im here to listen to beezy talk about lauryn
Rod did an unintentional sneak diss to Robin Thicke when he said "blurred lines."
Denzel Washington is not out here audtioning for work fellas. I get your point but, its pretty common knowledge that in the arts, heck even in business, people come for you.
I liked Fall the most. Granted, the ringer was good too....oh wait
We need that em review
#WellActually Al B. Sure (along with Kyle West) wrote and produced a lot of his music
Pleaseeee review Bas "MilkyWay"
I'm curious what was mike c-town was talking about when he said "Everybody at YP treated us like shit, we're the backbone but we... can be... replaced". 10:57-11:03
I love the MTV LIVE listen to it everyday
The way she treats her fans this is not really hard to believe. It's well known that she arrives to concerts extremely late and then just completely underperforms.
Hey y'all! Looks like you forgot to include the link in the description. Thought you guys didn't notice!
truly enjoyed listening
Lauryn Hill Wrote for Aretha Franklin. She wrote the lyrics for the MisEducation not music from my understanding
My dad's company actually had a client that was booked Lauryn Hill for a performance and she was doing the exact same things of like nobody looking her in the eyes and shit, but also she was super demanding, asked to be paid mostly upfront and showed up late lol
Michael Jackson was sued for stealing music for "Thriller" and lost in court.
There are tons of music that I don't like but can still appreciate why people love them or how influential they are/were.
This is the only album I just don't get. At all. I definitely feel like this is not at all as good as people claim and it is far from the best album ever made.
Lmao kens hand gestures!
This is making my head spin Al B. Sure did WHAT?!
Problem with having two different bands is that they can play the same exact thing and sound completely different
Love you guys!!
We have the same chair at my dormitory commons ...the chair myke is sitting on
Love it
Getting Guru vibes when one of his musicians talking about how Solar abused him and the musicians.
Everything is everything
On the flipside Lauryn has always spoken out against the industry being evil, etc. You can't play morally right and then do the same as the industry.
Not buying it...the man says she couldn’t tune her guitar but she did a whole MTV Unplugged playing her guitar and singing at the same time.
Yeah I honestly need to listen to this album😛 until then I cannot relate to this shock
did they talk about the miseducation REUNION? that may be why her name was on his mind
Please do Kamikaze review ASAP!
I just want to know WHO wrote Lost Ones and Mystery of Iniquity if she didn’t....? Btw, Robert Glasper has no reason to lie.
I don’t think it’s pretentious for Glasper to push back against auditioning for her at all.
Who is Lauryn Hill to be asking a better musician to be auditioning for her? Especially when she and her team sought him out he didn’t come asking to play for her.
Kamikaze is 🔥 Don’t @ me
Wheres kamikaze?? Ive been waiting a week for it
