This is a sweet riders bike. No assists other then your wrist. One aspect in where this machine shines above all others is its level of adjustability. You can adjust the seat sub frame, foot pegs, clip ons and swing arm. You can literally adjust it to fit you. Really wish other manufacturers did the same. Nice review

Traction control is nice cause I commute but never had it, I'm not about to ramble more. But yeah KTMs are infamous for having shitloads of electronics that go bad and it's already a Euro sportbike. Nice to know for reliability and the experience I'm going to get I mean this is already aware of this thing's pure racing pedigree really excited. Hope the deal lands hope and I hope the bike is relatively reliable.
I've owned one since 2014. Ill never part with it. Its not as quick as the newest and greatest, but I still find it beautiful and unique. And it knows how to party when youre in the mood
Rode a 2010 RC8 today that had a corbin seat and heli bars, was actually half comfy. What a great bike. Nice neutral handling, punchy motor, super characterful. Love the looks too. What an exotic.
I bet that seat made a difference! The stock seat on my 2013 isn’t too bad. This bike definitely has character and has a snappy throttle. Not the best at low speeds haha!
@@itsmeericb No, it's a bit irritable at very low throttle isn't it. It's difficult holding slight maintenance throttle around a low speed corner causing the bike to buck lightly as power cuts in and out. Really didn't bug me as much as it might as I was having too much fun to care. 👍
I would say that this bike really is on a league of its own. I had one since 2008 and all I can say it is not a fast ride but it is thrilling ,mine had an Akrapoviks exhaust and really made people be aware of me in traffic especially when passing through traffic. Right underneath the bike the exhaust fumes makes all cars tremble when passing next to them. It is not a speed bike but a bike with a whole lot of personality,the sound of which many will tell you seems like a tractor on 2 wheels. Love it or hate it this is a true lovers bike. I can say that the traction of this bike is awesome but as said the seat is one thing I would really change about it. I love KTM RC8

Stumbled on your channel as I was watching Deals Gap videos. Watched a few videos, cool style and editing! As for the RC8. Man the bike out of the box is pretty sweet but modified (like mine) its flipping INSANE! One thing I will say is that its a purists bike, there are NO electronics, no modes, no nothing. If you mess up aint nothing to save your ass, if you get it right its like you're weightless. Great review keep up the good work.
@ItsMeEricB, the bike does not have rider modes or any electronics at all. the bike comes with two engine mappings for fuel, the 98 ron mapping adds 3 horsepower over the 95 ron mapping. the bike was designed for racing which is why the seat is so hard, it transmits feedback using the very stiff frame which they have just adapted for the new 2020 ktm superduke r. the mode switch is actually to scroll through the dash displays and there is a switch on the back of it as well much like an rsv4 + and - switch for traction control, they can be used to reset the trip function or scroll through the dash. they also serve as lap timer buttons when the bikes dashboard is in track mode.
@@itsmeericb you also mentioned wheelies, it will power wheelie in 2nd gear no issues, no clutch up needed. just twist the throttle and up it goes. it can power in third if the rear is soft but the bike shouldn't be set up like that unless its for stunting.
Love the way that bike looks. I considered one along with a Ducati but the Dealers were way to far away from me to feel comfortable buying. Ended up with a ZX10R but I wanted another Euro bike :-(
Had the rc8 back in 2008, had to go after false neautrals, absolute knightmare but loved it. Think its time to look at the R. Especially the way there going up. Great post

KTM discontinued the RC8 because they think its irresponsible to produce a bike too powerful for the street, then makes the 1290 superduke. What the hell KTM? Bring this bike back!

Dunno know about the RC (racing cycle?) but the 8 refers to the LC8 V twin family of motors (LC4 being the 4 stroke big single cylinder) and the R is the usual European designation for the factory tricked out version above the base model, in this case the engine being 1195cc as opposed to 1148 on the original RC8
@@itsmeericb The Ducati is stronger from bottom to top. However, the reason I favor the RC8 is that it gives more rider feedback. It's easier to ride and not near as fatiguing. The Electronic suspension with TC, WC, SC on the V4S makes the bike blistering fast everywhere but you don't know if you're riding the edge or getting close to it as the electronics really take over. If you like razor-sharp handling that you feel and know when you are doing good and bad it is just more fun to ride. My V4s is for sale?
I have a 2015 and love it. But he is correct, the seat is trash and the mirrors suck. Problem with those camera mirrors is you lose your front signals. Mine is in excellent condition with under 6k miles, no scratches, dents, or damage. Any takers? Oh, it has Jester exhaust as well.
I found you really do get used to the seat. I've done over 200 miles (mainly motorway) in one day easy. Can't do 15 miles on my 09 Duke 690 without agony. Mine came with a JCE underslung and needed remapping because of stalling and backfiring due to the emissions parameters and the ECU trying to compensate. It also destroyed muffler packing like no other bike.
@@pauln6803 I love that orange & black and wish that was an option for the ‘15. I think that V-twin needs a certain amount of back pressure to avoid stalling, and it does do better with the baffle. At least this is the case with the Jester exhaust. Personally, I like the popping when coming off the throttle @ higher RPM’s. I never messed with trying to remap because I don’t feel comfortable doing it myself and I don’t trust any of the shops around here with this particular bike. I have yet to see another one on the road, and this is probably one of my favorite things about this bike. That and the 175hp of course!!!
Been looking for another rc8r, I had a 2014 from New til 2017 when a lady texting and driving on the interstate took me out and absolutely destroyed the bike. Years later still haven't found another.
I love this bike. very rare to see one on the road. I sat in one at circuit if the Americas and it is small, very small for it's displacement. definitely stands out from the crowd athletically speaking. I definitely regret not getting one while they were in production. ktm's reasoning for not producing it anymore kinda turned me off the brand as a whole
True, that kind of repulsed me I hate hearing some stupid bullshit like that. Let people make their own decisions but I guess they decided to withdraw from making one of the baddest literbikes. BMW on the other hand loves making big bad superbikes for the street so much they don't even bother participating in the GP they just wanna sell mean bikes and win WSBK and the TT.
I've had a 2014 RC8R for about 5 years. It will bite you if you're not careful. The stock mapping is vicious at low speeds. Electronic aids would be nice. TC would have prevented a low side at the track. Fun bike but in some ways I like my 2008 Superduke more. The RC8 would be awesome with a 1290 Superduke motor and electronics.
The CEO said it was too crazy for the street and discontinued it. Yet they have the super Duke 1290R which is even more crazy of a bike. Haha! I went onto cycle trader and there were about 4 for sale in the whole US a few days ago.

joseph kramer Well there are some bikes I can’t completely flat foot! 😄 Not sure on the seat but this bike has been out for a while. I would assume there is some sort of gel after market seat or upgrade you can do to the factory seat.
ItsMeEricB you probably saw this while reading up on it, but the suspension on the KTM is adjustable in like four or five different locations. I’m pretty sure all of them are set as high as they go. I tip toe that thing with one foot lol. Relatively good genes all around except I’m a manlet. You know KTMs motto “race ready” kind of suggests it would be a little bit taller of a bike for the track. Speaking of which, I think there is one within a few hour drive over in Texas. I have a trailer that will easily carry both bikes (maybe you do too). I have never been on the track. Let’s do it! EDIT: Perhaps we should wait until it cools down, I’m sure full leather is a requirement.
ItsMeEricB I was today years old when I found out some bikes have electronically controlled suspension. I guess the actuators really wouldn’t weigh too much. A little extra wiring, again not much weight. Can you adjust it on the go, or do you have to be off the bike? Super fancy. That is up there with the center kick stand lol.

@@usgoverment8240 Old thread I know, but for anyone else YES. The seat height is adjustable 20mm or so and so is the height and angle of the bars, ditto the footpegs and the shift linkage can be reversed for race pattern.
Someone told me these bikes fit taller people. I’m 7’1” (actually) and they said I might fit on one of these. You think I could squeeze on one? I don’t have motorcycle riding experience just ATVs and fast cars
Oh wow you are tall! Only one way to find out and that is to go sit on one. Sport bikes are tricky for taller people. You just have to go see for yourself if it feels comfortable.
@@habanero5.054 Just in case you haven't pulled the trigger on anything, the KTM is an option but you'll probably need extra spacers and longer bolts to extend leg room on the already adjustable pegs. Another option (if a big sports tourer isn't a thing) would be the original Aprilia RSV Mille/RSVR and some adjustable rearsets for legroom and to ensure your knees can lock into the sculpted fuel tank.

Good video! Those mirrors are awful.. I saw one video where guy put's one rear camera middle of bike and the screen next to the speedo. That was clean look because bike had mirrors at all!
It's a 2015 people, no abs, no traction control, no quick shift... It's all manual.... It's up to you type of control. KTM decided that Supersport (RC8) bikes were too power for the street back in 2015, but then turned around and brought out the Super Duke right after that..... Go figure.
That just doesn’t work. All new gen bike should have abs and traction and it’s up to the rider to turn it off and on. Labelling it ‘old school’ doesn’t cut in the modern day
considering they make arguably the best naked bikes in the world and just won their first moto gp with a rookie rider on his 3rd overall moto gp race, id say they can make whatever they want because they clearly know what they are doing.
ItsMeEricB it’s amazing. Had to drive 2 hours, Indianapolis to Louisville which was the closest dealer to me. Buddy drove my car back and I rode the Tuono home. One stop to top of gas and that was it. No way I could do Indy to Louisville on my gixxer. My ass would be on fire. Highly recommend getting on one if the opportunity presents.

The CEO said it was too crazy for the street and discontinued it. Yet they have the super Duke 1290R which is even more crazy of a bike. Haha! I went onto cycle trader and there were about 4 for sale in the whole US a few days ago.

joseph kramer Well there are some bikes I can’t completely flat foot! 😄 Not sure on the seat but this bike has been out for a while. I would assume there is some sort of gel after market seat or upgrade you can do to the factory seat.
ItsMeEricB you probably saw this while reading up on it, but the suspension on the KTM is adjustable in like four or five different locations. I’m pretty sure all of them are set as high as they go. I tip toe that thing with one foot lol. Relatively good genes all around except I’m a manlet. You know KTMs motto “race ready” kind of suggests it would be a little bit taller of a bike for the track. Speaking of which, I think there is one within a few hour drive over in Texas. I have a trailer that will easily carry both bikes (maybe you do too). I have never been on the track. Let’s do it! EDIT: Perhaps we should wait until it cools down, I’m sure full leather is a requirement.
joseph kramer Haha! Yes it is a bit warm out. Yes I am tracking it’s adjustable, but just not electrically like the newer bikes.
ItsMeEricB I was today years old when I found out some bikes have electronically controlled suspension. I guess the actuators really wouldn’t weigh too much. A little extra wiring, again not much weight. Can you adjust it on the go, or do you have to be off the bike? Super fancy. That is up there with the center kick stand lol.

The seat height is adjustable 20mm or so and so is the height and angle of the bars, ditto the footpegs and the shift linkage can be reversed for race pattern.

Someone told me these bikes fit taller people. I’m 7’1” (actually) and they said I might fit on one of these. You think I could squeeze on one? I don’t have motorcycle riding experience just ATVs and fast cars
Oh wow you are tall! Only one way to find out and that is to go sit on one. Sport bikes are tricky for taller people. You just have to go see for yourself if it feels comfortable.

Just in case you haven't pulled the trigger on anything, the KTM is an option but you'll probably need extra spacers and longer bolts to extend leg room on the already adjustable pegs.
Another option (if a big sports tourer isn't a thing) would be the original Aprilia RSV Mille/RSVR and some adjustable rearsets for legroom and to ensure your knees can lock into the sculpted fuel tank.

KTM decided that Supersport (RC8) bikes were too power for the street back in 2015, but then turned around and brought out the Super Duke right after that..... Go figure.

That just doesn’t work. All new gen bike should have abs and traction and it’s up to the rider to turn it off and on. Labelling it ‘old school’ doesn’t cut in the modern day

The "race mode" is basically just a lap timer, the engine map change is just for different fuel.

ItsMeEricB it’s amazing. Had to drive 2 hours, Indianapolis to Louisville which was the closest dealer to me. Buddy drove my car back and I rode the Tuono home. One stop to top of gas and that was it. No way I could do Indy to Louisville on my gixxer. My ass would be on fire. Highly recommend getting on one if the opportunity presents.
