  • In this video, we go over the basics of the operations and speeds of the Zlin Savage Cub on a journey from the grass strip CT09 to the Asphalt strip of KHFD using just visual landmarks and pilotage.

    I've really come to love this little airplane and the fact that it is so simple and no frills. Fancy Garmins and autopilot take the fun out of flying. You feel like your spending more time operating a computer than being a pilot. Whereas, with the savage cub, I take off, get to the right altitude, trim it, and point the nose in the right direction, and fly until I recognize something on the ground. It really exemplifies what it is like to be a aviator.

    Wish I had watched this BEFORE starting the Sierra Nevada bush flights. Did a couple of face plants landing before I started to get more comfortable to braking on landing. Thanks for doing this!!!

    Another great vid, thanks. Love this plane; the Bushtrip that used the Savage was by far my favourite, since you actually had to fly the plane and navigate rather than cheat with AP and glass.

    If you have the Thrustmaster throttle you can use the little wheel on the side for trim. Just make sure you set the deadzone to 0 %.

    Fun fact: the compass doubles as an attitude indicator. It doesn't work on this model but it does on the A2A Cub.

    Very informative video! Maybe use a different title though.
    The current one doesn't really indicate to people not familiar with your content that you're teaching some really useful to know stuff about this particular aircraft.
    I really like this new format though!

    What I usually like to do on short runways during take off is to only put the flaps down once my speed reaches 50, which seems to helps a bit to get to the rotate speed a bit faster. Not sure if that is something that is frowned upon in the real world or if it actually matters that much.

    Thanks for the excellent video. I'm curious why you are talking about airspeed in kilometers instead of knots?

    • @attiliodariva5417
      @attiliodariva5417 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because that's the speed unit the airspeed indicator has been designed with...
      Next question: Why does the savage cub have an airspeed indicator in km? Because is a very, very slow airplane and a kmh scale gives you a more accurate reading and a larger scale than if it was in miles or knots...
      Fun fact: ita also makes you think you are going faster

    Is there a trick to keep the Savage Cub from face planting when stopping the plane? I'm doing the Bush Trip in Nevada. I've face planted 3 times and I'm only on the 2nd leg. I literally let the plane coast to about 4 kts and then apply the brakes and she face plants every time. Help!

    • @chaosbooks8133
      @chaosbooks8133 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there is. you can just instead of pull up while flare, keep plane level and get to 0 feet/ runway then pull up and brake

    • @Stinkys8050
      @Stinkys8050 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm having the same problem lately. Did the first half of the bush trip just fine, now I find that I am face planting on runway constantly. Bring the cub in to a near stall landing with flaps full extend, tap the brake down the runway to slow, then when I feel I'm about stopped I hard on the brake and *whoops*. Has something changed? Am I missing something here?

    • @NitePHX
      @NitePHX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Stinkys8050 I took the Savage Cub out for some tests. Got up to speed on the runway and tried to stop, took off landed and tried to stop, whatever I could think of. I did this in the World map part of the game and not the Bush Trip game mode. It was very hard to face plant the Savage Cub in the World map mode yet it's almost impossible to not face plant in the Bush Trip mode. This has to be a bug. The flight model should not change based on what game mode you're playing.

      @@NitePHX i wonder if i am landing into the wind. I normally don’t worry about wind speed and direction 😏

    • @NitePHX
      @NitePHX 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Stinkys8050 I'm not advanced enough to make comments on wind in the game. From what I've seen so far unless you purposely set the weather to be windy the normal everyday wind in the game is pretty nominal. I typically land around 50kts and try to touch down on the very beginning of the runway so I can use the entire runway length to bleed off speed and come to a stop without ever tapping the brakes button.

    • @joelmulder
      @joelmulder 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, especially when flying VFR.
      When flying a small GA plane in VFR, the PAPIs are just a handy convenience.
      They're more for larger aircraft following a precise glide slope.

    In today's video P Gatcomb says '...a teeny tiny bit' a total of six times. Don't forget. You do everything 'a teeny tiny bit' or you are doing it wrong. Maybe this is a teeny tiny bit cheeky but it annoys me a teeny tiny bit how many things need to be done a teeny tiny bit.

    The color scheme is getting worse and worse. The grass looks like glossy painted plastic from Disneyland. Waaaaay too saturated, unnatural, ugly. It wasn't that bad at release, but the updates seem to break the game step by step.

    • @attiliodariva5417
      @attiliodariva5417 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The visual downgrade this game has been suffering after every update is embarrassing... If you watch this video you can clearly see the terrain blurred after just a couple of miles. In the short final it was impossible even to read the runway numbers.... not to mention the nice try to use the act... but it's broken...
      Loved the video and I can't wait for the next of this series.
