  • Penshaw Monument - the original North East icon?
    OK so Durham Cathedral (b.1133) may be a bit miffed at that statement but it is a working building. Penshaw Monument was completed in 1845, way before both the iconic Tyne and Wear Bridges (1925 and 1927 respectively) and The Angel of the North, is just a babe in arms by comparison. You could argue that Penshaw Monument is the original symbol of the North East.
    Join me in this video as we climb Penshaw Hill (Pensher, if you're local) and take a look at the monument and talk about the history of the structure.

    Hi Andy, this was some monument , nice hearing the history. Quite a lot of steps up to it. It looked lovely lit up. A real prominent landmark. There were some lovely views from up there, thanks for sharing x Julie and Tony x

      Thanks for watching Julie and Tony. It's a great landmark and looks great when it is lit up, usually in different colours for different occasions. The steps have only been added in recent years. Before, it was just a track up to the top.

    I have drove passed that monument hundreds of times over the years but never been there. Did I hear right 'guided tours'....man that must be a short tour. The lighting up of the monument was a great call and what a superb sight it is on an evening. Yep not a fan of cows at all, dam unpredictable things they are, so I would be more worried about them that the piles in the grass. Lots of kids running about but better that than them sat behind a computer I suppose, which is exactly what I am doing lol! Cheers Alan

    • @OutandaboutwithAndy
      @OutandaboutwithAndy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It wouldn't be too much of a climb for you, Alan. There is another route from the other side, which is more of a gentle incline, which my Dad mentioned the other day (after I filmed this). I'd have thought the climb might have tired the kids out, but no such luck. I wish I had their energy. Thanks for watching.
