Let's take a look at the very nice go-box my friend Tom VA3WBA has built to accommodate his Icom IC-7100 ham radio and accessories. Tom VA3WBA's TH-cam channel: / @radioastronomy2001
This seems like a solid integration, though I caution most folks away from go-boxes for portable work. The reason is mentioned in the video -- the bulk and weight. Most of the time, the juice isn't worth the squeeze, and what's lost is the true portability. There's a thru-hiker mantra that often holds true: we tend to pack our worries. It's difficult for alot of folks to get away from that, for a number of reasons.
You are 100% right. This box requires a car ( would not carry it more than 100m from the car). Essentially, I was looking for something to protect the radio when going camping. We take a lot of things as we seek as much comfort while camping as possible. The radio was always at the bottom of the pile. Waiting to get it. For hiking, cycling, etc, I have KX2 with a random wire antenna.
I love mine, haven't had it super long yet. I always avoided it due to the 'odd' form factor but I've really come to love the setup. It's paired with a Commander 7100 in an ammo can and so far, the form factor is perfect for shack and portable. Nice setup! 73, KS0TOR.
I was thinking about it. But once the plywood was in place I decided to keep it there. The reason was that I would have to remove the screws and they would not hold well installed again. The other reason was pure laziness.
I love my 7100. It is a great radio for portable use. I am not sure if I would a case like that, but I am glad this one works for him.

7100 is a great rig! I have one mounted in my truck. Nice build here.

Good stuff Tracy and Tom! Thanks for sharing. I can't believe Tom is still using that battery 😂 73 VE3GKT
Yes this is your battery with removed BMS (the BMS burned to a crisp) Using the balanced charger is a bit of pain but the battery is still kicking.
Nice to hear from you, Joseph! 73 from VE3TWM.
Really a neat Go Box. Good job on that. 73 de Uncle Günter 💯🙋♂👍
Always nice to hear from you, UG! 73 from VE3TWM.🍻
Great setup for mobile operations 🎉
Got some good ideas for my FT-891 setup.
Thank you for sharing this. Now as a bonus if you could get your friend to say "Get to da choppa!"
😂
The only change personal preference...I would
stain and varnish the board. Neat solution.

MCM Custom Audio makes lots of 19" rack cases. Which size/model is this one?
that's a neat case
The 7100 adds D-Star as well.
Very cool to see!
Nice gig setup, what were dimensions? I must’ve missed them.
Would like to learn about he side of the server rack tray. I could use this with a 7300 go box. Thank, Rob WA9RAD
Hey Tracy, looking forward to FD this year. I'll be operating 40cw with VE3LON in London. Hope to make a contract. Cheers.
I'll be using an NVIS antenna from the Lake Erie shore, might be able to work you on 80. SSB only. I'll listen for your call!
@@OutdoorsOnTheAir Good luck this weekend Tracy. Going to be a hot one so, stay hydrated. 73's, Gary VE3XDM.
Hey Tracy
"Gator" case ?
