    I sterilize my jars, lids, and bands in the hot water bath. I also wipe the rim of the jars before putting on the lids and bands. The lids are designed to be used once. The bands can be reused. Lids and bands can be purchased together but you can find lids sold separately. Always clean and sterilize brand new, and old, jars, bands, and lidss. Make sure you dry any water on the inside of the jars before filling. Make sure you fill the jars when the contents is hot. That green tool she used to get the air out of the jar has a tiny indentation at the bottom that you place short side out and long side just inside the rim of the jar. This tool will help you to measure the length of space you need to fill your jars to. Make sure you do not over fill because pressure can build and cause an explosion. Never over tighten. Place your jars back in the water bath just like she showed. Make sure you have about an inch of water covering the sealed jars. This will seal the jars air tight and kill any contaminants. Also someone in the comments mentioned the magnetic tool you can use to lift your lids and bands from the hot water bath after the sterilization process. Always protect yourself from the hot jars by using gloves, towels, or canning jar grips (highly recommended). Have fun!!

    Thanks for reply. I notce you have the same ceramic/glass stove top I have. I'd like to can but heard the pots are too big for the burners and could crack them. Have you had any problems with using a canner or pressure canner? Thanks.

    • @LacquerandlaceVintageatheart
      @LacquerandlaceVintageatheart  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bllie hunt I used the WB canner you see here on that very stove top for 3 years in a row - no problems. Last year I purchased a large Presto pressure canner, it has a flat bottom and so the temperature regulates a bit better. I use that for my WB canning now, without the gage in place, you don't want it to build up pressure. I would not hesitate to pressure can on it - but I have not done so yet.

    • @sharonnewsome3368
      @sharonnewsome3368 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do pressure can on my glass top. Your stovetop has to be perfectly clean with nothing burnt on it. Hubby cleans it with a razor blade & soap. No problems yet.

I boiled it for 30 minutes once it came to a rolling boil when I took the jar out it felt sticky so I wasn't sure if one jar leaked or if they all did.
