I didn't even have to get up on a ladder because the low hanging were so amazing. So far I've canned 9 jars of apple butter, 7 quarts of apple pie filling, and 42 pints of applesauce. And I still have apples left over! Maybe I'll try your recipe too.
Or they make terrific jelly. I kinda hurt me to see that lovely pile of peels on the floor. I hope they were at least fed to chickens or left out for the bees,...

Use the cores and peels to make your own organic apple cider vinegar. Add a little vinegar from a good quality unfiltered ACVl (with the mother), a little sugar or honey (1 TBLor so) and put in a clean sterilized large jar to accomodate all the cores/peels and top up with water. Put a glass or weight to keep submerged and cover with cheesecloth with a rubber band around the top. In a few weeks you have great vinegar!
I have tried many ways this one works easiest .. experiment it's fun ...can't loose. If you don't have any store bought here's a great recipe. I use the cores and skins as well, -fill a quart jar 3/4 with apple cores and skins -add 4 tablespoons sugar or honey, -fill jar with Filtered water, -stir well with a chop stick, ( no metal) -cover with cheese cloth and rubber band. -Stir vigorously every day for a week or so. I test with ph strip usually it's a 4.5. The warmer your room the faster it ferments - strain well put into clean jar - cover with clean cheese cloth - wait 3 weeks to mature then cap with lid . Enjoy😍

My apple trees are loaded with Gala, Granny Smith, red delicious, and one tree I’m not sure what it doing. It might be honeycrisp or pink lady, I’m not sure. I canned mostly apple pie filling last time, so I’ve decided to can just apples in a light syrup. I pictured a light bulb shining in a word bubble above my head lol. Dang, I’m going to start using my floor space. I’ve been canning for over 55 years when my grandma taught me after I got married, and I have never even thought of that. We learned something today, and we just subscribed. TY! And love from SoCal.

I officially succeeded in using my pressure canner for the first time. The first time is scary but with you step by step instructions it went smoothly and the apples turned out delicious! Very good video! Thanks!
@@OkieJammer2736Don’t feel bad. It took me 11 years to get up the nerve to pressure can. That canner sat there unused for all that time! If it weren’t for TH-cam, it would never have gotten used!! I use it all the time now. Easier than water bath canning because you don’t have to wait n wait for all that water to get to boiling.

My grandma and aunt and uncle also had their canning setup outside. Similar to this one. I remember them making pickles, and canning everything they grew. Tomatoes, green beans, corn, beets, oh just everything! I also wish I knew what canners she used.
My granny canned apples but she put very little sugar in them and left them plain! We had them with breakfast and they were so delicious! Love your canning setup!

I’m jealous, I live in northern Minnesota and we had a late spring freeze after things were budding so there are no apples, no chokecherries, no blueberries….no nothin this year ☹️
@@rnupnorthbrrrsm6123 In the past, I'd shovel as much snow as I could in a 4 ft radius around the base of my fruit trees to keep an even cold temperature micro climate, preventing an early blossoming and loss of buds when a very warm spell was followed by a late frost.

I make my 96 year old grandmother’s apple dumplings recipe…very easy…you could use a few apples out of your jar and still have enough left for your pie: Either start with a can of crescent rolls or make your own dough and cut it into triangles that will wrap around a piece of your apple to cover it. Use a fresh apple, core and peel or use like a piece out of this jar of canned apples either will work the same way. Wrap each piece of apple in a piece of dough then place in a 9 x 13 casserole dish. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a saucepan add 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar or your favorite sweetener equivalent and 1 stick of butter together and heat on medium heat until butter is completely melted. Pour mixture over apples in casserole then sprinkle with cinnamon and put in oven and bake till dough is cooked golden brown. Remove from oven and turn off heat. Spoon mixture in bottom of casserole over dough and apples and return to oven to keep warm a few minutes until you are ready to serve. Also great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top…yum yum!
I have one of those outside stoves I've never used. Love that idea for canning. Does it use a lot of propane for the 1 1/2 hrs required for canning qt jars of meat?

I keep a deep plastic dishpan in the sink & peel into it. Half of my bits go to the chickens & goats, the other half are left under a fir tree for the local deer who visit me.

Save those peels, dehydrate and grind in to fruit powder. Excellent to add flavor to a pie or any apple dish!
I wonder if the powder from the peels would work like a thickener in another batch 🤔

I do add clove to it and it not just parasite killer but gives a WONDERFULL FLAVOR to it too.

Please don’t use the floor use the sink. Easier to clean up and a lot cleaner
Use the peels and cores to make jelly/jam.
We dehydrate the peels then grind them to powder in the blender to use to flavor tea and muffins.

Works great with pears, especially the hard ones. Only thing is pears are much sweeter and don't need as much sugar. Also makes great pear sauce.

I never saw anyone peel fruit right onto the floor! I would make jelly out of those skins and cores!

Yes. The only things you must use a pressure canner for are high fat content

I keep a deep plastic dishpan in the sink & peel into it. Half of my bits go to the chickens & goats, the other half are left under a fir tree for the local deer who visit me.
