I like the fact that they were honest about what they feared, and knew exactly what they needed to fight against enemy.
I don't understand, they said Russian troops are leaving. Why would they attack a defensive position if they are leaving? Is this a trap by the Russians? Or did the Russians archive the objectives of holding as many ukranian troops at the capital while the other troops take cities next to the coast and the 2 republics? Hmmm

It was IEDs for me in Afghanistan, and suicide attacks in Iraq, but admitting to either on camera to the world would have ended up with me being bollocked by my leftenant.

The are not heroes. Ukrainian forces use women and children as cover for themselves. Most of the stuff Ukrainian media shows is just lies.
In Mariupol they used civilians in the city for cover. On top of that they did not let them leave, then retreating they purposely fire on civilians and destroy buildings. After all that they blame the Russian military for it. Hardly heroes.
In Donbass Ukrainian military is still firing and killing civilians (using long-range artillery), till this day. Even though most of the territory has been liberated by Russian military a month ago.

I see the strength in both Ukranian soldiers and civilians. They realize that a life under Russian control would not be worth living. The Russians will not rebuild these cities and the people will be repressed and barely surviving. But if they win, they can rebuild schools and whole cities. The whole world will contribute to the success of a new Ukraine, bigger and better than before. There will be cranes and construction in every city and within 5 years the economy will sustain itself. This is the fight for their life, their culture, their future for the Ukranian people and they have shown that there is only one way to get it. I have great respect and admiration for them.
The Ukrainian government could start a rebuilding fund for anyone to donate to . I don't like to give to UNICEF because they will use the money on other projects and not this one that stirs me. Ukraine needs its own fund.

People keep saying that this is the end of the MBT, but this clearly demonstrates that when used properly with an infantry screen and only brought forward when needed that it clearly saved the day.
It's the end of MBT's with technology from 35 years ago like the one Russia is using in this war. Modern tanks have Active Protection Systems like Trophy or Iron Fist, to let the anti tank missile explode right before it hits the armor of the vehicle. When soldiers are led by well respected leaders with experience and good tactical and strategic sense, they can conquer anything. We would normally do the same kinds of things, a planned retreat from superior forces, suck them in to extend them out, get reinforcements, and then hammer them as hard as we can. Give enemy air and artillery the respect it deserves, and kill it whenever possible, otherwise cover up. The comments from these soldiers remind me so much of my Paratrooper Brothers and Sisters. Always professional, always a positive "CAN DO" attitude. As airborne infantry we always loved to pull armor off the road and into the woods (or suck them into a small village or town) where we can get closer to them to kill them easier. Engineer support if available is amazing to have, even just 1 small bulldozer can build a lot of tank traps and trenches, to slow and funnel armor and even infantry into low soft ground, bottlenecks, all kill zones.

@@zergio1825 Yes, but those are not heavy weapons. ATGMs and MANPADSs are great for defense, but eventually Ukraine will have to go on the offense to drive the Russians out, and for this they will need to shut down Russian air superiority, and that requires heavy long-range SAMs (S300, Patriot, etc). They will also need some serious air power.
@@zergio1825 Obviously, you did not listen carefully enough to what was reported in this video. Disadvantage in the kind of weapons engaged. When a bomb falls upon you making a 10 m or so hole, even with your courage and some defensive armement you're not there any more; as a citizen lambda your house is not there anymore and its basement you were sheltering in is not there anymore, vaporised with everyone and everything in it. As are the high buildings in Mariupol too, if you need a scale.

Who created this modern Ukrainian army, with its decentralized command and focus on small unit initiative? One of the least-discussed reasons why Russia is doing so poorly is that the Ukrainian army was remodeled to take advantage of its centralized command structure. By creating chaos and exploiting confusion the Ukrainians now have more tanks than when the war began. The opportunistic Ukrainians are this century's Finland.

With my HQ speakers I can hear and feel the artillery launching. It’s quite a sobering feeling to know how far away those systems are yet how loud and powerful they sound.
Give them fighter jets, air defence systems and such so they can drive Russians out asap. That is the most humane but also the most cost effective solution for the free worlds. Democracies are precious.
