Honestly. Ordinary maintenance is a nightmare, i can't imagine how awful a mechanics life is during wartime.

If they would ask me to be a sidekick in that repair shop, I'd do it. Keep the fire roaring, get rid of broken parts, keep the shop tidy, get coffee ready, learn basic Ukrainian (the names of the tools as a minimum) and be out of their way if I'm not needed.
I was just thinking that very same thing! If I was single and a bit younger, I'd be there doing just that: helping around the shop, cooking meals for the mechanics and soldiers, cleaning up, getting oil and dirt under my fingernails.

A heavy equipment mechanic and the Gunner. Do they come any tougher than that?
The biggest heroes of the war are the Ukranian Logistic and service teams. They are tasked of managing countless of different systems and pvoding parts , ammo , propelant and maintance for all of them. Like the SPGs for example - yes most of the Western stuf use the standard 155 Nato rounds but all of them use different propelant and if you use the wrong one , you will worn out the barrel. Also the USSR equipment , they are scrounging every possible source to grab parts.

Roman should be put in a Leopard 2 or Challenger 2 even if he does not want it, they need their best tankers in their best tanks.
Roman knows what happened to those Leopard 2 on Syria. He knows he's better in sticking with what he knows.
If a person has mastered their equipment and is very confident with it they will perform much better then if sent off on other equipment even if they will master that too down the road.

Man Lion is an absolute hardass. He's not going to upgrade? That seems crazy to me. I understand he must be sentimental about his tank but wouldn't it be better to get a tank that wasn't built in 70s. One that doesn't store ammo in the seats you sit on basically.
@@Smoke_Rising There's not many NATO tanks being sent, so they're probably all spoken for. He probably doesn't have a choice, so he'll keep repairing tanks and maybe charge into battle into his T-72 again.

Imagine Ukrainian tank crews reporting for training on their Leopard 2 tanks. And they are met by a certain Colonel Hessler who supervises them!
Unfortunately, it is far too late for this warning. Not only that you can locate the hall based on the incidence of light, the huge oven for heating the hall has long since revealed its location itself. I was worked for landscape company in the winter they said stay with us clean snow I said ok . I had renault wan , catch broken in front my house even couldn't park the car , call mechanic towing repair after three day days again door handle broken . after a week slide door can't open repair after a week slide not lock
the end I quit the job I sad frozen day everyday have problem . now I can see this tank . but god bless all of them repair after repair

I wonder how one could join the tank maintenance battalion? I worked on American Iron, but I'm sure I could figure it out
T-62 or an Abrams...yeah I would chose the latter.
Unfortunately the Abrams will not arrive for almost a year because the DoD has decided to build all new tanks for Ukraine rather than taking the 31 tanks from our 3450 mothballed tanks, screwing both taxpayers and Ukraine who needs those tanks NOW, my guess is someone is getting a kickback $ on that scam. As for the T-62 you would be safer in a Subaru, only slightly less armored than the T-62 but much faster.
Well tanks are equipment. If he knows how to work a T-72 well it is safer for him to be in a T-72, even though the equipment is worse.

What i see here is regardless of the type of Tank, it is the crews that are the real weapon. These men are fighting for their Country so are highly motivated, aggressive and dedicated. The will of the soldier will win out over weapons every time.

This used to be called the Kharkov Locomotive Factory. It dates back to 1945 for tanks or even earlier to 1895 for locomotives. At times, it has employed thousands. It is not secret in any sense of the word.
That factory got destroyed by Russian missiles last I remember

The Ukrainian army is better off with Russian tanks because of the logistical challenges the Nato tanks will bring, plus Ukrainians are already familiar with Russian tanks technology
