  • A quick look at the start of our homestead in Arizona. We are on 2 acres in Southern Arizona (Smack dab between Zones 9a & 9b). We desire to become more self sufficient by growing our food, raising our meat, poultry and more. However we have a lot to learn on this journey and we hope you join us.
    We hope you enjoy this video of our life on our 2 acres in Southern Arizona. Please consider joining us on this self sufficiency journey to have more control over our food. We are by no means experts but are learning as we grow!

    I just bought 10 acres in Pinal County with a little 750 Sq house on it, the house needs some work but very doable for me. I wasn't looking for 10 acres, I was actually only looking for 5-6 but at the price I paid I couldn't say no, I paid less for 10 than most of the 5-6 acre lots I looked at. I'm moving down there permanantly in August and going to live in my camper until I get the house done. I went down there during spring break and gutted the walls back to the studs and and electrical lines so I knew how they ran when I put in the new. I'm also going to start a homestead with Fruit trees and bushes, I'm also going to plant olive trees, which not alot of people think about but should.

      @@arizonahomestead Yep, you might want to think about planting some, I'm planning on getting a couple Mediterrian Olive trees, an Arbequina Olive trees and a couple of Olea europaea (European/Spanish) Olives. The Med and European Olive needs 2 to pollinate but Arbequinia trees self pollinate.

    Just found your channel and plan to binge watch ALL of your videos. I grew up in southern Cali, moved to southeast Texas for 14 years and the oportunity to purchase a modular home on a half acre came up and I jumped on it. I now live in the desert of west Arizona (tri state area next to the Colorado River). I am NOT a desert lover, however, I appreciate the quiet and beauty...BUT...I miss greenery so badly I can taste it. After living here 3.5 years I have decided to quit mourning it and just to turn my little half acre green in spite of the heat. I am very rural and love it, and also want to reduce expenses and waste and begin a homesteading adventure here. I am starting my first gardening attempt next month.

    I am attempting to grow all of the food my wife and I will NEED to eat, and then be able to sell the surplus to buy the things we LIKE to eat, but do not want to produce ourselves. I want pork, but having pigs on a standard city lot in the middle of Tucson is just not feasible. LOL
    I just got started a month and a half ago, but have experienced many happy landmarks. I had a Romaine Lettuce plant all eaten up by some nasty bug, but I left it in, and now it has new growth! I am hoping it goes successfully to seed.

    Bunnies love mint lol. The best way to grow mint through the hot summer is to grow it in a water bog..you can make one by filling a pot with no holes in the bottom, with dirt 3/4 of the way, then fill with water. The mint grows great right in water and doesn't die off during the heat of the summer and doesn't freeze and die in the winter..it can take a little ice/frost. I like growing chocolate mint that way. It smells so good!

      @@arizonahomestead The bunnies can't get at it as much if you put it in a water pot/bog thats off the ground a little. You can set it up on concrete blocks or whatever :) Lots of other herbs in the mint family will also grow in a water bog/pot too. You can throw a little bt in there (a piece if a mosquito dunk) if you are worried about mosquitoes.

      Shalom, I just came across this channel while looking for YT vids on homesteading in AZ. I currently live in SJ, CA with my mother but am looking to start my own homestead possibly in AZ, unfortunately there aren't very many AZ homesteaders on YT. Where in AZ are you and what is your gardening zone?

    I'm in the process of looking for land here in Arizona...where would you suggest for a first-time homesteader. I am currently in North Phoenix in the middle of the city and I am so over it.

    • @arizonahomestead
      @arizonahomestead  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Ashley Jackson - That's an awesome question but so many factors to consider. We suggest listing your requirements to narrow down an area. Are you looking for natural resources, on or off grid, type of housing, acreage, HOA, budget and animal husbandry laws (etc.). There are so many wonderful areas to chose from. We wish you all the best in your search. 🏜

    • @arizonahomestead
      @arizonahomestead  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Ashley Jackson - We started homesteading a different way than most. We bought the property to get space from the traditional neighborhood. As time went on my love of gardening transitioned into reducing our dependence on outside sources. We did a Homestead Collab that you should checkout. Please search #DesertHomesteadCollab there are some awesome homesteaders included. Stay Well. ☀️
