    The Scarlet Red Wine in TTYD actually makes the scene sadder. Bobbery wants a drink of Scarlet Red Wine, to remind him of his wife, Scarlet, once more.

    • @NintendoFan
      @NintendoFan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      If I'm not mistaken, the japanese version of Superstar Saga also refers to the Chuckola Cola as wine.
      Aparenttly, Nintendo changed it to soda in the international releases for the same reason.

    • @Skelatox
      @Skelatox 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Maaan, that's fucking heartbreaking.

    • @MeisterLuigi
      @MeisterLuigi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The German version of Superstar Saga also refers Chuckola Cola as whine. It's called "Witzwein" (Witz = Joke, Wein = Whine) there. In Paper Mario 2 the Chuckola Cola is named "Psycho-Blupp", the item descriptions says, that it is alcoholic soda.
      The change was only for the English version, I think?

    • @CoopersCrazy
      @CoopersCrazy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      The problem with having it in a 3D world is that having the ability to fly everywhere would just break everything. It should come back in a sidescroller though

    • @DylanDude
      @DylanDude 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It was too broken.

    • @thomasp506
      @thomasp506 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I miss it, but it was way OP compared to the super leaf. You could just spam the cape spin and become practically invulnerable from the sides, and you could skip entire levels by flying over them. With the leaf, you couldn't fly as far and the spin attack required more precise timing.
      That's not to say that they couldn't rebalance the cape feather to be just like the super leaf, but it seems Nintendo just isn't interested in doing throwbacks to Super Mario World aside from Yoshi.

    • @DylanDude
      @DylanDude 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas P Anymore, at least. NSMBU had a number of throwbacks to SMW, but Nintendo seems to have moved back to originality.

    I think the Mario Galaxy French Canadian localisation was the best Nintendo has ever done. Using the boring standard french we usually get sucks the life, charm and personality out of games and is the reason I usually play my games in English in the first place. It's a damn shame that they got criticism for actually doing a good job.

      I agree!

      I don't speak French, could you explain what the difference is?

    • @zheoferyth
      @zheoferyth 5 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@yourmomandthem Canadian French is a different dialect (well, spoken Canadian French anyway) with standard French usually used in more formal situations. Point is, most people here don't speak that way and standard French when used in dialogue feels a bit synthetic. I don't really know how to describe it, but it's less expressive.

    • @JSTrudel
      @JSTrudel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @@zheoferyth French-Canadian here. It boils down to eloquence, in a way. In joual, I would say for example "Imma lay a fuckin beatdown on yer ass, you little dipshit". Whereas a more standard dialect would be something like "I am about to thrash you violently, you miscreant!"

    • @zheoferyth
      @zheoferyth 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Just want to point out it's not only used pejoratively and it contracts words and phrases that wouldn't be otherwise.
      Imagine people never using contractions and that's a bit what standard French sounds like to French Canadians.
      More educated folks tend to stick to a French closer to Standard French, but still use some of these contractions in general.
      Also, different idioms.

    3:12 This also stays true to the Mario Party games that came after this (2 - 8), but for 4 - 8, it only shows up if you try and get a Star when you have _999_ stars. I know that that's the limit because that's how much Action Replay's default Max Stars code gives you.

  • @NintendoFan

    1:48 I thought it was common knowledge that this is just a stock sound effect available in various SFX libraries.
    It was also used in other games, cartoons and movies. The fact that Nintendo used the same sound for their Mario game while Phillips used it for THEIR Mario game was just a big coincidence.

      I think that "common knowledge" is a bit much considering that most people probably don't know anything about it, but I do agree that it's strange that a comparison was made where it really was just a coincidence, which I imagine is quite common with stock sound effects.

    This has probably been said already, but the sound effect shared between Mario 64 and Hotel Mario isn't FROM Hotel Mario. It's most likely from a stock sound library, as it's used in works that predate both games; for instance, it appears multiple times in Disney's 1985 film 'The Black Cauldron', and it likely made appearances in film and TV even earlier than that.

    Super Mario Kart originally had Princess Peach and Bowser drinking champagne during the awards ceremony. This was changed outside of Japan to avoid alcohol references. So in the international versions, Bowser just holds the bottle while Peach flips it into the air. Mario Kart 64 was also censored. The ads seen throughout the courses originally looked like real world company logos, such as Yoshi1 (Mobil1 oil) and Luigip (Agip gasoline). In addition to risking copyright issues, one of the ads was a parody of Marlboro, a company that unfortunately sells cigarettes, which could cause problems for an E-rated game

    Quebec's joual isn't only used by working class people, it's how anyone from here speaks from waiters to millionaires. The language isn't limited to just one group of people.
    It's equivalent saying only working class Australians have an accent and the others speak standard English.

    • @mrshmuga9
      @mrshmuga9 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @illustrecombattante
      @illustrecombattante 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are different levels of Quebec French. You can speak a neutral level of Quebec French, not joual, and it's still somewhat different from France.

    • @Stalnalein
      @Stalnalein 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      mrshmuga9 "The French language board criticizing it for promoting poor literacy to children" The way we speak isn't textbook perfect, true, but we know the difference between speaking and writting correctly. Same goes for any country for having their own pronounciation and slangs. Them making it more "Quebec friendly" simply means they would use local words instead of European or international French. The board complaining about that localization is kind of equivalent to people worrying about kids using chat speak in texts and then realising it had no real impact when they had to write an actual letter a decade ago.
      And let's not forget we're speaking of the same board that got their panties in a bunch when restaurants refused to change their menus to 100% French only and gave an small fanilly owned Italian restaurant a fine for using the word "Antipasto" on their menu. Even we Francophones can't take them seriously most of the time with their constant freaking out over minor things.

    Talking about Mario Galaxy and dialects, in the Spanish version, the character Gearmo is called "Cyberchacha", which means "cyber maid" ("chacha" being a derogatory term).
