  • I love this scene, I love how nonchalantly Athos takes out his sword & then says "can I ask why?" tee hee... Sundays are going to be a bit dull now 😕
This turned out to be one of my favourite shows.
    Hurry back Musketeers!

In the novel, D'artagnan offended the three musketeers badly, and then Athos Porthos and Aramis challenged him to a duel at noon. But in this series, it was a lot different. D'artagnan challenged the three musketeers to a duel because he accused Athos of murdering his father. Porthos and Aramis were Athos' seconds in the novel, but in the series they were trying to defend him

It is not entirly accurate. Porthos and Aramis were not only Athos' seconds. They were just insulted in that order : Athos, Porthos and Aramis. And the duels were supposed to occur in that order: Athos at noon, Porthos at one o'clock, Aramis at two o'clock.

I noticed this too, & I'm glad someone else pointed this out. In a lot of adaptations of the books, movies, & television series, Porthos seems to be the brute of the bunch. Athos the leader, while also having that dark mysterious side, & then Aramis is essentially the glue that holds everyone together, the logic of the group, I suppose. D'artagnan is just the up & coming courageous hero.

@@ekaterinakorovina1065 Have you read the third book Le Vicomte de Bragelonne? It's way too long, very flawed but has enough that I adore that I'd still call it a favourite. The big ending with the man in iron mask is heartbreaking of course, but I always go back to the conversations between d'Artagnan and Athos in the first part, their friendship feels so true and charming.
Robert Louis Stephenson (of Treasure Island fame) has a great essay on how despite finding it too messy when he first read it, it became a favourite of his as he grew and how "no part of the world has ever seemed to me so charming as these pages, and not even my friends are quite so real, perhaps quite so dear, as d'Artagnan."

am I the only one who thinks that, bc Luke Pasqualino has dark skin, D'artagnan could have relations with other countries, even spain (many of the people around the medditerean have dark skin. Pasqualino himself is from Italian descend). And I think it would be great. Consider it:
A spanish woman comes to france and ends up in gascony, where she fells in love with Alexandre D'artagnan. they have (at least) one child together, D'artagnan, who grows up to be a Musketeer. But, when he occasionaly fails to defend the king, everyone links that to his parentage (e.g. in s2 ep6, Through a glass darkly, when D'artagnan stalls for time and endangers the king's life, the king could have accused him of helping the spanish due to his mother or in s2 ep4 Emilie could have known that D'artagnan is half spanish and she could have tried to execute him along wih the queen to "help" the musketeer regiment "clean" its ranks)
idk, I feel that the idea one of the musketeers, and especially D'artagnan who needed to prove himself, being spanish and everyone being suspicious towards him could have made the series even better(if that's possible)

Kind of a shame they cancelled this show - it was fun, even though it made a lot of weird changes to the characters. I guess I don't blame them - there's only so many times you can tell the same story, and there are dozens of Three Musketeers stories in live-action. Personally, I think the Disney version in 1993 will always be my favorite... it just had such a great cast and was so damn fun to watch.

One thing I didn't quite understand is why they keep referring to D'Artagnan as "farmboy" in season 1 (I just started to watch the show). Is it to make a point that he behaves very "provincially"? Because as is evident from his name and the fact that he carries a sword, he is of noble descent.
