  • Watch me build a dining room table and bench using an old farmhouse door, black galvanized steel plumbers pipe for the bases, a 2x10 for the bench top, and table top epoxy resin for the tops. This is a super straight-forward #diyproject that anyone can complete with a little bit of concentration and effort. This is a great project for anyone who needs a really durable #diningroomtable.
The tools I used for this project include a circular saw, miter saw, palm router with a quarter round bit, orbital sander, speed square, jointer, and table saw. There are links for the products I used below.
If you would like to see a more in-depth and narrated video on how to do this project, check it out here: • How to Make an Epoxy T...
There are a lot of useful things you may learn from this video, including how to pour table top epoxy resin, how to sand epoxy resin, how to build a table base with black galvanized steel plumbers pipe, how to paint the base with #rustoleum spray paint, how to use a jointer and table saw, how to use a palm router with a quarter round bit, how to stain wood using Minwax Dark Walnut Stain, and how to effectively sand old wood.

I think it needed more sanding overall, and more buffing. But otherwise, i love it. I may do the same thing.

Awesome result. Guess it's good to have the table level when you do that epoxy then?! : )

Man that is awesome!! I want a new patio table and this would be so great! so when you poured the epoxy in the recessed areas, did you let it completely dry before you can back and did the rest? Also, is epoxy affected by the weather because I could only do this on the porch. I definitely would do a small piece first to get the feel for it before I would do a door. Anyway this is amazing and you have a new subscriber!

Thank you for watching and the kind comment! Yes, fully dry, but maybe not fully cured. Make sure to check the instructions for the epoxy you use. BUT epoxy is definitely impacted by weather; I have found this out the hard way. I wouldn't recommend it for anything outdoor. Use Seal Once Marine Sealant OR Spar Urethane with lots of coats and sanding in between. Best of luck and thanks for subscribing!

I had to do two coats with a sanding in between, which you see in the video, I think I used around 4 gallons, thank you!

Hey so I’m doing this project BUT client wants the door to remain with cracked paint etc. I’ve got it cleaned up but do you have any lessons learned from this project!
    Also, great work!

Hi Kurt! Thanks for your comment and sorry for my late response. You should be able to pour the epoxy right on top of the cracked paint and door. I would do one thinner coat to seal everything up first, then after it dries, lightly sand and do the final coat. How did it go??

After you sanded it down what did you use to bring the shine back?

    • @SecondSonWoodworks

This time I used some Johnson’s paste wax. But I’d recommend a malco auto polish. I have another video where I go into this: th-cam.com/video/TdKsiX9yTgY/w-d-xo.html

Why did you sand the top after finishing the resin?

I just watched the next video and you explained why! I have a great door from our 1903 home that will become my new desk.

I ran out of epoxy the first pour haha and then had to order more. When I did the second pour I had to blend the two. Hope this helps

Such entitled attitude! Not every video is made with an intention of tutorial. Some people just like to share what they created. You can use it as an inspiration or just to admire.
