  • Kenya's dominance in the steeplechase continued today with a clean sweep by Brimin Kipruto, Ezekiel Kemboi, and Richard Mateelong, winning with times of 8:13.82, 8:16.94, and 8:17.59, respectively. Kenya has won the steeplechase event at seven out of eleven World Championships. The last clean sweep by Kenya happened in 1997. (WCSN, WCSN.com)

Pretty to watch.Kenya have won the steeple at EVERY Olympics they have competed in since 1968.That's 40 years of total and utter dominance. Not to mention other podium finishes. They ALWAYS run as a team. The depth they have is astounding.I love it when they get together after the race and share in the victory lap and flag waving.Pure joy.

    Kenya! Kenya! Kenya!
    This is just great!
    Thou art great!
    Gold: Brimin Kipruto
    Silver: Ezekiel Kemboi
Silver: I am not sure whether that was Paul Kipsiele Koech but it doesn't matter. It was a CLEAN SWEEP!
We also swept the Steeplechase in Barcelona Olympics in 1992 with Mathew Birir winning gold.
    Patrick SAng won Silver.
William Mutwol won Bronze. I watched it live and loved it! We are the finest. When God created Kenyan runners, he asked for a moment of silence in heaven. I'm Kidding.

@RyanBos10 I *used* to do steeplechase, several decades ago. You know, back when lots of high school and college tracks were still cinder. Back when Nike shoe were still manufactured with kitchen waffle makers. Back when running shorts were still made of rough cotten. And back then, we had to face a head wind on BOTH back stretch and home stretch. Oh, the good ole days...

@rockinsurfkid : There a few out there (water pit on outside). To compensate for this if you look at the startline, its different to the one for a inner water pit.
Go to love the Kenyan's when it comes to Steeplechase. They are a class in their own right.

    Wow!
Brimin Kiprop Kipruto huddled the steeple! Then, he ran away from Ezekiel Kemboi.

@hardcorechrisFSU haha I see, Im not denying that genes may have something to do with it. But allot of those guys were (some still are) soldiers or police. Being police in Kenya typically requires you to walk around for the entire day in the boiling sun with a heavy gun. So they end up really fit since allot of the join at like 18. So if you can find somebody to pay you for walking around in 35+ degrees full uniform and a heavy object for like 8+ hours a day then this would be easy ^^

I am Kenyan and still proud of OUR competitors. After the election there were killings everywhere; it was NOT TRIBAL CLEANSING!!! Thats what the media in the west would like to call it. There were killings in Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru and many other places. I bet you speak just from what you heard on TV and radio, I lived the nightmare. Kenyans should unite, we are one people. This is divisive talk. This comments are tribal, I bet you are not Kale; neither am I. Lets see the bigger Picture.

speak for yourself. There are lots of Kenyans that are still proud of our athletes. Any evidence on your part that these runners funded the chaos? I doubt. Incorrect assumptions are arguements with no base. Tafadhali wacha ukabila. remember how ur class 5 Kiswahili teacher used to say: Umoja ni nguvu; utengano ni udhaifu.
