For those of you asking about the GoPro lens distortion: I use the CC Lens effect in After Effects to remove it. You have to tweak the settings a bit, but it's pretty easy.
Well done Luke on being a worthy winner. It is also nice to see someone who is generous (and patient) in answering the comments, regardless of their merit in some cases!
Absolutely incredible. I've been to Chama a dozen times and know the railroad very well, but I've never seen it like this. Amazing video!! Excellent choice of music.
Yes, that's a very similar gimbal for what I was using when this was shot. I did not have any FPV gear at the time, although now I fly with a 5.8ghz downlink and a small monitor and can get much better results.
This is absolutely astounding. The beauty of the train and the scenery are captured wonderfully by the cinematography and the music. As a railroader, I greatly approve of this use of remote control tech.
Great video! I am loving these videos. I am a new Phantom II owner but a photographer for many years. This is a great addition to my arsenal. Congrats!!!
I just happened to have taken this train 2 days after you apparently filmed this. The views from the train are stunning, but the aerial video you produced of the train itself going through the mountains is outstanding!
Just superb!...Phenomenal camera work and production quality. As a rail enthusiast and having ridden several times on that route it just max's out the sensation. It truly almost doesn't look real but I know it is. Kudos
Who on earth can give this thumbs down? One of the most beautiful places on earth, with one of the most captivating machines on earth, with some of the most interesting history--and this video had footage that I've never seen before. VERY cool.
Recently got a DJI myself.. this video motivates me to do something. I only watched this video about 10 times already, great shots, theatrical feel especially the music. Anyone know what the instrumental in the background is?
Hi Luke, I was really amazed watching your fantastic video. Absolutely pefect shots! It´s top notch and I think I never saw such a great Phantom/GoPro video before. Congratulations to the first prize! cheers, Paul
Fantastic stuff! I'm getting one of these myself to film trains from the air. Were you using a gimbal or anything else to absorb shock when you filmed this?
Amazing video. You helped make up my mind to buy a Phantom. Could you please let me know what a Gopro settings you used & also what settings you export your movie. Thanks heaps in advance.
Thank you! I usually set the GoPro to 1080p 60fps and either Narrow or Medium mode. This gives you the smoothest video, the least jello from prop vibration, and reduced fisheye-effect. However, if you balance your props and really fine-tune your system, it's also possible to get great results in 2.7k 24fps mode. As far as exporting goes, I always upload to TH-cam with a 1080p/24 MP4 file at a high bitrate. Hope that helps!
I do use a gimbal, and was flying a simple brushless one from eBay (Martinez board) when this was shot. Since then, DJI has been awesome enough to equip me with a Zenmuse H3-2D, and my hack-job Phantom has been sitting on a shelf ever since. If you can afford it, there's nothing else that even compares.
Veramente veramente COMPLIMENTI..... Stupendo video, sia per i colori, per la risoluzione, per la musica scelta e sopratutto per il soggetto. BELLISSIMO!!!!
Well I can see why you one! Awesome! Combining two of my 3 most favorite things: trains and UAV filming. (My third favorite thing is Flyboarding.) What's the PBS show you mentioned earlier?
Luke; thanks again for the best video on youtube, great camera work, great scenery and the best music track. And congratulations, Jack in the Box is using this track on their newest commercial. When I first heard it, I said that is so familar ,oh yeah, it's Luke's. Hope they pay you a train load of money..
well done guys.... such a great job no doubt five star for sure...and winner also.... that's the greatness in using the quads..... Music to me is a so Magnificent.
Great video Daniel, I have seen helecopter shots up to Cumbres Pass that are not as good as this! You need to ride the train as it covers 64 miles and you have the first 14 in your video. Please do more!
Hey Luke Fitch! This is so cool...I saw that you subscribed to my channel and I went to check out your channel...and I saw this video is yours...which is the video that inspired me to get a Phantom! A very cool connection!
WOW!! Absolutely beautiful!!! Both the video & the music, thank you!!
National Geographics level of quality!
For those of you asking about the GoPro lens distortion: I use the CC Lens effect in After Effects to remove it. You have to tweak the settings a bit, but it's pretty easy.
which CC lens effect are you using exactly?..under distort ? Beautiful flying and framing btw ;)
Well done Luke on being a worthy winner. It is also nice to see someone who is generous (and patient) in answering the comments, regardless of their merit in some cases!
You, Sir.....are a freaking genius! Beautiful shots of a beautiful railroad! If you made a longer version I would not be disappointed!
Absolutely incredible. I've been to Chama a dozen times and know the railroad very well, but I've never seen it like this. Amazing video!! Excellent choice of music.

Fantastic video. This is the first time I have seen video of the train at 10,000 feet around Windy Point. Thanks Luke.
Astonishing and other superlative words. I can only imagine the amount of effort that went into creating this beautiful film. I am in awe sir.
I'm absolutely blown away! This is the kind of stuff I dream of doing. Great work!
The era of drone aircraft to do train watching has arrived. This is one of many very good ones.
Just superb!...Phenomenal camera work and production quality. As a rail enthusiast and having ridden several times on that route it just max's out the sensation. It truly almost doesn't look real but I know it is. Kudos
What an oustanding video,so smooth and what a location to film in,keep up the good work and thank you for shearing.

Nice music. Did you compose it on Sibelius or Finale Allegro by any chance?
Great camera work! I just wished that the video was sharper, even at 1080p the image wasn't crisp.
Very nice :) It does help that I am a train fan! Who did your soundtrack?
Great work. What gimbal do you use? Thx in advance!
Amazing video Luke. I hope my skills get this good one day.
That was done really well. Thanks for sharing.

What are you use to eliminate a distorsion, softwer or another lens for gopro?
Nice video.
Excellent.
Looks like a model railroad! Awesome!
Thanks! I was in ATI mode for the most part, occasionally turning on GPS due to the nasty wind and need to keep an eye on the train. IOC off.
