I do not. I thought about it but, decided against it. I have BFS spool for this reel and the stock spool. Adding this reel would add even more redundancy to my lineup.
Thanks for the video, Hobie. Can you tell me your thoughts on which reels would you recommend for: 1. Shimano Poison Glorious 166L BFS Hardbait Finesse 3/32-3/8 Oz. 2. Shimano Poison Glorious 164ML Greyhound 3/16-1/2 Oz. 3. Shimano Expride 1610M-2 7-21g. Alphas 20, Aldebaran 31(51), Metanium 20, Zillion 20, or something else. I would be grateful for your opinion. Thanks.
That k you for watching. I hope the video was helpful to you. 1. Gekkabijin AIR TW or Aldebaran BFS 2. Aldebaran 31 or Alphas SV TW 3. Really the Metanium, Zillion or whatever you prefer. Most reels can perform well here. If ordering from Digitaka (usually lowest price), I have a code NS4 that will save you a little money. Good luck with finding new reels. Let me know what reels you decide!!
@@HobieWanKenobi Have got two Alphas 22 800s shallow edition for ML/L rods + Metanium 13 + Yumeya BFS for M rod. Now I am wondering if should I buy another Metanium 13 or a new Zillion 21 SV TW for H+ rod(up to 50 grams), but I dunno if they last for lures 10-50 grams.
The line will go from your spool (top of spool) and go directly through the TWS. The line will go under the silver part of the frame when going through the line guide.
Do you think the roro spool for the alpha sv tw will be almost similiar to your alpha air tw? And would you recommend putting the drag clicker in the alpha sv tw?
I have been using the Roro spool for the Alphas SV TW. I have the thicken model so, I cannot directly compare but, it does cast lures for panfish quite well. Very controlled in the wind yet, allows a good amount of distance. I have a drag clicking set from Sagisi Customs in my Alphas SV TW.
that is unfortunate the clicker click does not fit into the stock alphas sv tw main gear. It seems that to get a clicker for the alphas sv tw, you would probably need to get a steez ct sv pinion, main gear, and the other components that make up the clicky drag from japan, buy an alphas air tw pinion and main gear along with the sagisi custom drag kit, or wait if he will come out with clicker kits for other reels.
I plan on playing with it more. It would be fairly easy for Sagisi Customs to make a new ring. I believe the washer will work still. He asked me for measurements of the Alphas SV gear so...that could mean only 1 thing.
I use mine for anything from shakeyheads to topwaters to jigs. Mostly in the 1/8oz to 5/8oz range using 10lb line. Reel can cast more weight but, that is the range I am using mine for.
@@HobieWanKenobi I see. It would be ideal if daiwa were to sell the spacers as a separate part so it would be widely available , but seeing as they would rather sell a whole product, that would not be in their best interest.
Not sure I could handle the 85mm, wish 90mm would become standard. I would like a new Zillion, but the Alphas matches my light line river fishing better... Great videos, always positive. Nice to watch a reel video without a reminder the world is ending and I deserve to burn forever.
Great videos!!! Haven't ordered from Japan before been a little weary about that but may try the sight you recommended.
Digitaka.com is the best place to order from. Fast shipping and eazy low prices.
Any plans on reviewing the new Daiwa 22 Alphas SV TW 800S, (Shallow spool)

Hobie, love the videos. Question do you know what the difference is between the Tatula SV and the Alphas SV. thanks
The Alphas SV TW and the new Tatula SV 70 look pretty similar. The Tatula would be a little lower quality but, generally operate similar
Daiwa nailed it with the T-wing. It lays the line so well evenly on the spool compared to a traditional level wind guide.
I like the TWS. I never had issues with it. Even in my casting video, I was trying to get my line lay uneven.
Thanks for the video, Hobie.

Is daiwa alpha sv tw tension knob a zero adjust ( Factory setting no need to adjust except the mag break?). I like the reel😊
The Alphas AIR TW has the Zero Adjust knob. I myself still adjust it to make sure I have the smallest amount of side to side movement possible.
Good that it comes with brass gears. I can definitely use it for flipping and horsing at the same time palmable.
Absolutely! Built tough
Does it have a metal handle side plate? Enjoyed the video, thanks!
It is Daiwa's aluminum alloy. Will probably have a Hyper name in the future
@@HobieWanKenobi brass gearing and metal handle side plate should make this a solid little reel.

So the drag clicker kit for the alpha air would fit the alpha sv like this video without any issues?
@@88jbc No. The washer is a different size for sure. Clicker ring might be a slightly different size

U think megabass going to use this reel/frame to update their lauda?
I am not sure. Megabass reels do not seem to be made as frequently as they used to be.
hey do you know if sagisi customs plans to make 28 mm spacers for the alphas sv tw?

Not really. Lube and oil matter but, as long as it isnt super cheap, should be good. For BFS, I use Hedgehog Alchemy Oil for spool bearings
You think the reel will handle 20-30 grams lure?
Yes. Line capacity could be an issue if casting 30gr swimbaits with thick line

The 85mm handles used to both me. I have gotten used to them. 80mm outside of BFS reels kill me though.
@@HobieWanKenobi did you ever find out if this reel will accept a regular 90mm Daiwa handle?
@@logicalrationalfishing7481 It will work. As long as it is swept like this handle. Straight handles will work too but, not too great looking

So to confirm this alpha has a aluminum frame and handle side plate, as well as the bearing supported pinion gear?
