  • In this video, Inside the Daiwa Alphas AIR TW HIDDEN FEATURE!!!, Hobie-Wan Kenobi will be opening the Daiwa Alphas AIR TW and showing the internals. There is an secret feature with the Alphas AIR TW.
    The Alphas AIR TW is a great all around BFS reel. I would rival it with the Shimano Aldebaran BFS with Avail 16ALD15 spool. The Alphas AIR TW has become my favorite BFS reel. The shallow spool shown is the Roro Shallow BFS Spool on the way. That spool weighs 4.5 gr with bearing!!!!
    8.6 Gear Ratio
    160gr (5.64oz)
    8lb-45m
    80mm handle
    28mm spool
    TWS (T-Wing System)
    Zero Adjuster Knob
    6+1 Bearing
    Saltwater Safe
    ALPHAS is finally reborn with the TWS system. Equipped with a small-diameter φ28mm G1 duralumin AIR spool to achieve a new level of finesse performance. Not only the bass, but also the trout in the mountain stream, as well as the salt compatible specification that enables the bait finesse game in the salt. The body was constructed with a full aluminum housing and was developed for various light game fishing.
    The Daiwa Alphas AIR TW was released in May 2020.
    Follow on me Instagram to keep up-to-date on the Alphas AIR TW and other BFS gear: @hobie_wan_kenobi_fishing
    Hobie-Wan Kenobi will be doing many more BFS videos. Please comment below if you would like to see other BFS How-To videos. Also comment what you learned in the video or if you want to share BFS stories.
    Full write up to come on the TackleTour forums.
    Easiest place to get an Alphas AIR TW is from Japan Tackle. Jun (the owner) is a great guy to work with and will go above and beyond to satisfy customers.
    I hope this video helps you out. Comment below for any questions. I will help you out.

    Hi Hobie, I just bought this reel and I played with the spool tension knob before I casted. Can I check with you, how do I know if the spool tension is at the optimum setting. Do you do a lure drop test? I pushed the spool side to side and I did not find any side to side play.

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. I set my spool tension to have the smallest amount of side to side play. Just enough to move the spool back and forth.

    Thanks!
    I had seen you do your homework and using manuals/schematics before tear down ...not on this one though...
    I personally refrain from opening up my reels other than for service/cleaning after saltwater use (unless need to grease drag washers of a brand new reel that know is dry out of box). Just my personal preference.

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I felt this reel came a little dry. A lot of newer reels do not come with much or any grease on the gears. I usually suggest having schematics available for instructional videos. This video was to show the internals and not a tutorial. The gears needed grease too

    • @kamarte
      @kamarte 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HobieWanKenobi My understanding is that fishing reel gears, technically due to their very low rpm, don't necessarily need to be greased, though whenever I'm cracking up my reels, I put a dab on them.
      Knowing that grease would be a magnet for dirt and sand, it would be even harmful, specially for some reels that their internals are not properly sealed/protected to withstand outside elements.
      Anyway, thanks first your thoughts.... I'm sure sharing our thoughts would help us all.

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are other ways for water to drain besides the "grease port". IDK what it actually was designed for but, it is easy access to add grease to gears between full cleaning.
