There's a old saying. We stand behind are work. There was a brake shop in town who's sign said. We stand in front of our work. Brake jokes I can't remember the last time that came up.
Very informative. Thanks very much for clearing the air of this subject. I had regretted my purchase of DOT3 but I now know it is the correct fluid for my low mileage car (not driven more than 500/1000 miles a year).
Jeff, nice video, thank you! I’ve been running DOT 3 in my Fairlane for the fear that DOT 4 would grab moisture. I run the car hard ( often) and watch my brakes closely changing fluid annually in fear of water in the lines as too giving my wife and I a nice activity in the winter; bleeding brakes that is. Anyhow, I’ll be moving to the 4.1 and yes, I’d like to see the various bleeding techniques as I’ve seemingly tried them all, including the hand held vacuum pump to, once again, be asking Cara for an assist in mashing the pedal .
There is two test kits for break fluid, moisture, and corrosion. Takes me 1 hour to change the fluid by my self. I spend to much on the vehicles, I want them to stop very fast. When was the last time you saw a 68 mustang with a four wheel lock up at 60 mph avoiding an idiot pulls out in front of you.
I use Pentosin Super Dot 4 in everything now. Why? Because the container and pour spout are better, not because I need Super Dot 4. It comes in a metal can and the spout has a nice rolled edge that doesn’t drip fluid everywhere…
ANDREW! Yeah, the only reason I say 5.1 is because of availability. I went to a couple of stores locally, and they did not have the super dot 4. That's the only reason I say that 5.1 is better over Super 4.
If the Dot 3 is more than a year so old I would just use the top five to flush it out of the system. They can intermix. But I would want it to be a 99 percent majority 5.1.
Okay, so DOT 5.1 is a glycol based derivative of DOT4. Why couldn't they call it DOT4.1, instead of confusing us simpletons, thinking it might be similar or compatible with DOT5? Or why didn't they call it DOT6? It just gets so confusing, that I don't even want to think about brake fluid. I definitely don't want to change it every 10 yrs, like I know I should. Yes, I am being a bit sarcastic, but brake fluid nomenclature is very confusing. Thanks for helping clear it up. Much appreciated.
The brake fluid is probably the must neglected thing in a vintage car. Guys will change engine oil every season on their rarely driven car but will never adresse the brake fluid to a point where the rubber flex lines are clogged and the brake cylinders completely corroded on the inside. Just make sure you watch the 1200Hp Comet get terminated video cause of brake failure.
I always use DOt 3. Glad you went over the different types of brake fluids. Thanks for another excellent video.
Thank you!
Yes! Bleeding Tutorial when you can. Thank you
Already shot

Lol
I will remember you every time I look at my collection of brake fluids 😂
I have an embarrassingly large amount of brake fluid that is basically unusable because all of it is over 6 years old
Thanks for the information, I've always wondered about the mixing of those fluids and what the differences were. Great video.
Me too
Thank you!

True Love! 💕😅
Video on the break stuff for bleeding is coming
We will be putting the 5.1 to the test for sure
We will be putting the 5.1 to the test for sure.
I’m staying with DOT 4. This way all of my vehicles take the same stuff. I am not racing, and try to anticipate traffic to avoid hard braking.
Please do the brake bleeding video. I'll be at that point soon.
i would like to see your method off bleeding the brake system tyia
On the way
I'd notch that spring tower brace for unrestricted access to the master cylinder reservoir.
It works pretty well with a funnel. We are also planning on installing an RRS strut brace as well
Jeff, looks like you used some of that brake fluid in your hair! Looking good my friend!!
The wife likes my hair long on top. If it is long on top it gets in my eyes. , gel it is.
Jeff, let's see the final bleed when you get some help.
I've got a bleeding method that doesn't require help! That's coming up in another episode
thanks Jeff, good show.I use motul brake fluid in my mustang i go on alota twisties,it has a 637 degree dry boiling point.and a 400+ wet boiling point.
Good stuff

Does it count if I've seen that in a 1969 Fairlane station wagon

Does all the DOT 3 have to be flushed out before using DOT 5.1 ?

Drinking brake fluid is addictive, but you can stop anytime. 😉😉 ( Dad joke)
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The weird thing is, off camera, when I was doing the research, that's exactly what I said. Why isn't it. 4.1?
