    When I took my beloved’s 13 plate 30k Ecoboost Fiesta in for its MOT the garage told me that it had reached its 10 year or 100k mile cam belt change and quoted me minimum £1,500 to do it because of the high difficulty of the job. Ford have finally after 12 years started recalls. Only took them over a decade to acknowledge. Like I said the other day Matt I was wary of the early Ecoboost and dropped on a good Mk3, last of the 1.6 Duratec cvt with around 65 on the clock, full Ford history. They did me cambelt and water pump, new wipers and pads and discs. I’m on 86k now, had a hose go around 70 but apart from that a battery and key fob battery so just wear and tear. I check oil level every few weeks but never uses any. I’m about to do a interim service oil and filter change as I always do every 5K, always good practice I’ve found. The oil is only just starting to darken up so I’d say that’s a good insight into the engine condition. I look after it, and fingers crossed I can get a good high mileage. Nice cars to drive I’m happy.

    That timing belt thing is the reason I would never buy one of those. Here in our german forum those engines blow up like hell and they also do when setviced right. Only thing you can really do is check the oil pickup on any service which noone does. Love my Fords, but hate Ecoboosts. The 1.5 TDCI is by far the superior engine for the Focus (at least the Mk 3.5).
    Anyway, thanks for the video, I think the Focus Mk3 is a lot of car for the money.

    Serviced my 1.0 2014 regularly and it still blew up....nothing to do with not servicing them but Ford knows most wont do it often so when it does blow up if you don't have full service history they basically blame you for it happening, 1.0 ecoboost even has its own fb groups, problem is for sellers its quite well known not to touch these engines with a 50ft pole! plus £4,495 seems a lot for a 106k 1.0 Focus on a 13 plate with paintwork like that, only paid £4,500 for my 2014 automatic Focus with only 64k miles and has the 1.6 petrol engine that is pretty much bulletproof.
    Personally wouldn't of touched this car as you've spent a lot on it and chances are there will be a angry owner ringing you up quoting consumer act in a few months lol.

    I currently drive a 2016 1litre Ecoboom Titanium X which is loaded with kit. Love the car. It feels very sporty for a car that only has 125HP and handles like a dream. There are most certainly quality issues like the door sills and broken interior plastics (all 4 door seals came loose on mine, plastic surround around the headlight dial broke, etc). However, as a bit of a DIYer myself, they're easy fixes so never bothered me too much. My engine is ticking away happily at 55k miles... For now. I really liked the body kit that the ST-Line models have, so I decided to treat mine to a full ST-line body kit and I think it looks superb! If only they released the Titanium X with the sports body kit like they did on the 2008 - 2014 Mondeos.

    Great purchase Matt, I love these mk3 focuses especially in white. I also prefer the previous generation to this as it just looks more sporty in my opinion and there's loads more room. Fantastic cars and great fun to drive

    Actually a really nice looking small car. The wheels are nice and give it a sporty more expensive look. The unexpected expenses are unfortunate. Too bad you won’t make a larger profit. Like I said it is a great looking car.

    I remember when those new shape Focus models first came to the US. I thought them rather cool. Especially the shape of the fuel door which fit in with the rear lamps. I think the PowerShift transmissions finished most of them off, for better or worse

    I have a 2011 1.6 petrol and absolutely love the car. I did have to have the rear subframe replaced and the rear suspension arms which cost a lot of money, but I've saved the car which is lovely and only has 60k on the clock. Went straight through the MOT after that, and yes, the shape I have is a lot nicer in my opinion too. Should last me a good few years yet.

    I bought a 2014 one of these last year on 77k miles. It came with a fully stamped service book from Ford but no bills or receipts and only when I spoke to the main dealer that last serviced it did I find out it had had a brand new engine fitted by them at 75k - a lucky break for me. No indication as to why but I suspect the normal Ecoboom fault. It’s a Titanium X model so comes with all the toys and has been great so far. It had the usual paint/rust patches above the rear number plate just like yours

    Thankfully the whole submerged timing belt thing is largely behind us. Both the PSA 1.2 PureTech and the 1L Ecoboom both had fairly significant issues with those belts (particularly in the early to mid 10s), it was just a bad idea. They would often go wrong even if the car was serviced per the schedule.

    • @webmktv1781
      @webmktv1781 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But now even more engines have oil pump belt in oil. VAG TSIs and TDIs, PSA cars, fords and probably many more. This brings the exact same problem. Although I haven't seen single broken one if they are serviced correctly

    • @HirooKoslov
      @HirooKoslov ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@webmktv1781 Yeah, thanfully it seems like they've figured out the material they use to make the belts. Even those problematic engines are fine if they have the latest revision of the belt.

    Didn’t know the 1.0 ecoboost were that bad.. must say I don’t have the same experience as you with the build quality. I drove a company car focus estate back in 2013, although that was a diesel and an estate. Apart from the odd dpf filter thing all diesels suffer from, I really liked how that car handled and felt and I never had any problems. That said, I did drive 120k miles in 3 years, so it was then of course still only a few years old🤷🏻‍♂️ ah well, tough luck mate! Hope the next one works out better!

    I remember I drove this exact Ford (it had less than 40k miles) as a substitute vehicle in my company (while my main corporate vehicle 2019 Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI was being repaired). The Ford was much newer, like 2018, also had 1.0 Ecoboost, but it was a facelift model I guess, front of it slightly different. It had exactly the same problem with the rusty spot on the boot door in the very same place on the right, even though it was 2018. Overall, it left quite a cheap impression compared to Octavia, Octavia that is actually assembled here in Ukraine. Thanks for your vids, definitely great content to watch 👍

  • @steveberridge4648

    I went off the focus with the mk3 and 4. It ceased being a Euro only car and the handling ride I think took a step back. I had a mk4 loan car about 3 years ago and it felt cheap and nasty with zero steering feel. Then went straight to an old mk1 as a stop gap car which was just So much nicer to drive - honestly !! Ended up keeping that car for 18 months and then have it to my daughter who loved it too!

    and thats the problem with ecobooms, £1200 to do a cambelt. and thats why most of them go bang at around 100k, because people dont want to pat 50% of their car's value for a belt

    After speaking to a few knowledgeable people I decided to go for the 1.6 125bhp 2011 Focus Zetec, the last of the older petrols. It's a little slow on the uptake but otherwise is always going to be far more reliable than the Ecoboost.
