Thad had so much charisma, so much authority leading the band and communicating with audiences and especially playing!! When he left it was never the same band as far as I'm concerned!......
I love this so much & I've watched it many times... but I just now noticed something in the description... You have Billy Campbell listed with saxomophones when he should be listed with the trombonophones.... just a technicality. This is so wonderful. Thank you for sharing it!
Munchen, schwabing, Domicil Jazz Club. I was stationed in Munich for a year in 1969-70. Spent many a swinging night in this great jazz club. They had great jazz and gulash soup. I wonder if the club is still there.
Il love this band, and especially the baritone solo. To render unto Caesar that which Is Julius', the composer and author of Quand je monte chez toi Is Henry Salvador who wrote lots of funny songs
Haha. Der Typ macht so 30 Jahre Dizzy Lead und nimmt dann 'en Flügel vor den Mund. Ich feier so, dass Thad am Flügelhorn wie ne Trompete klingt! :) My Hero
As a former professional jazz ensemble player, THIS is tied for best big band, IMO (tied with Don Menza's BB). The players are all expert -- and relaxed, and happy -- and the leaders are just... cool. They also super-nice guys. No need to yell at people and propagate an atmosphere of fear to get them to be better musicians. (Are you reading this ghost of Buddy Rich?)
Buddy managed a big band that did many excellent compositions and had some of the best jazz players out there on the bandstand and he kept it going in a day where big bands were dying in the nation of the US.
Wrong--it's Bob Bowman, just like the personnel list above indicates. Marc hadn't played in the band for several years. The list is correct, except Billy Campbell was a trombonist, not a saxophonist. The band always had five saxophones, not six.
We should all have as much fun as these guys did!

Only 495 views is sinful for something this good.

Yeah, I am. Get your OWN Big Band and keep it on the road for over 20 years, then get back to me.
Buddy managed a big band that did many excellent compositions and had some of the best jazz players out there on the bandstand and he kept it going in a day where big bands were dying in the nation of the US.
holy shit - what a splendid document of those great days of jazz in europe! thanks a lot for the share.
Ein altes Videoband - aber die Sendung ohne Unterteilung in Einzeltitel!
Holy smokes, Harold Danko! 5:50 onward...
Awesome combo - these guys, and Toshiko Akiyoshi-Lew Tabackin Big Band, RULED!
Классная программа мастерство свинг драйв!
that's marc johnson on bass.
Not so--it's Bob Bowman.
There is an error in the list of players involved. The bass player is clearly someone else. My bid is Marc Johnson. :)

There's no Ed Xiques in the saxes
+Simon Finch Hi Simon, it's definitely Ed Xiques on 2nd alto - trust me!
